The girl who’d dared me looked less triumphant now. More uncertain, like she’d accidentally opened a door she didn’t understand.
Bill lifted a hand to his neck, fingers brushing the spot like he was checking whether it was real. And I clambered off him, wiping at my mouth to erase the last minute of my life.
