Summary
After surviving the crash of a mind flayer airship, Astarion is on the run from the vampire lord Cazador, who held dominion over his mind and body for centuries. However, two adventurers have also survived. Shadowheart, a half-elf cleric, and Kieran, an amnesiac drow bard, are in the same predicament: infected with a mind parasite and in need of returning to Baldur's Gate.
Cazador always said adventurers hated vampires. If Astarion can manipulate his new companions into doing his bidding (and to stop helping every stray who elicits their pity) sweet revenge is so close he can almost taste it.
The power of seduction hasn't failed him yet, and Kieran proves to be the perfect target when he confesses he's searching for someone his heart yearns for but can't remember. Despite the drow's darker eccentricities, his borderline delusional stubbornness in reclaiming the life he lost, and a volatile first meeting, Astarion is more than willing to fill in the gap. Emotional games are a double-edged sword, but freedom isn't free, and Astarion will do anything to kill Cazador, even sleep with the enemy.
