Chapter 1. Savo Stride.
‘ Beep Beep Beep !’
. . .
‘ Beep Beep Beep !’
. . .
‘ Beep Beep-! ‘
“Ugh..” Cole groaned, flipping open his flip phone before slamming it shut to stop the alarm.
He would sit up, stretching his arms over his head as he let out a low but deep throaty grunt. He would drop his arms down, glancing to the window as he saw the slight bit of light coming from his blinds.
Figures, I mean, it is winter.
Transferring after finishing his second in community college all summer, he’s learned one thing.
NEVER.
Attend the summer admission.
Seriously, makes everything so hot…
What kind of idiot would decide to take their first semester of an actual college in the piping sun, I mean, it’ll be hot, and-
“HOLY SHIT!” Cole would yell out, panicking as he leaped up to crawl out of bed.
…Only to end up completely missing the mattress and falling the the floor.
“Ack!-“
Cole would grunt as he hit the floor, aching in slight pain.
Did he oversleep?
There’s no way..
‘I knew I shouldn’t have stayed up all night embroidering my jacket…’ He thought to himself, before giving himself a hard SLAM on his forehead!
‘Get it together man, there’s no way you’re arriving late to your first day of college!’ His thoughts continued.
He would stand up, his room a total mess.
Yeah, it’s not a dorm, but hey, a lousy studio apartment is better than a room with three guys he probably won’t like.
Cole proceeded to start his morning routine.
Choosing an outfit, showering, skincare, brushing his teeth, wearing said outfit, and most importantly…
Fixing himself a nice cup of coffee!
He would open his flip phone once more, glancing at the time.
“7:49..” He muttered under his breath. Taking a sip of the deliciously sweet coffee he had prepared himself.
What? Black coffee? Who drinks that willingly?
He’d glance over to the door handle, which of course.
Had his signature red cap hung on it.
He’d take the cap, and place it on his head as he grinned, knowing just well,
He’s ready for class.
-
He was NOT ready for class.
The hell does the building have to be so big for!?
It was intimidating.
Cole would check his paper schedule, then the number on the door.
..Then his paper schedule….
….Then the number on the door.
“Is this the right class..?” He’d mutter to himself, as he viewed the schedule one more time.
‘Fashion History, Room 31 C.’
Cole would sigh, before opening the door, it was already 8:17 by the time he arrived. The college’s foundation confused him slightly, getting lost, on top of that having to ask 6 different people for directions.
It was embarrassing.
But what was most?
Were the amount of eyes staring at him as soon as he finished turning the door handle.
He stood there, slightly uncomfortable.
“..Um-“
“You’re late.” The professor said coldly.
“Yes, I apologize,” Cole would take his index finger and scratch his cheek nervously. “I was a bit lost, but I’m stoked to be here!” He’d say with a smile, trying to ease the awkwardness as some students turned to face the professor.
“It’s alright, since you’re quite obviously new, I’ll let you go. But don’t expect to get off easily next time.” The professor would turn back to the board, as he pulled down the projector screen.
Cole glanced around.
All the seats, all the rows…
They seemed so full.
Seems as if people were already grouped up, talking with their friends, or already ended up making some.
Though he’s relatively confident, he had to admit, he felt out of place.
If only he arrived even a few minutes early, then he would’ve had a good impression on the professor, and even interacted with a few of his peers.
Speaking of peers, he’s starting to feel like he underdressed for the occasion.
Oh well, there’s always tomorrow.
-
“Not only did you pull a stunt like that, but you could’ve put other students in danger!” The Dean leaned in, as their scoldings increased.
“Reckless behavior on school grounds, reckless behavior on school property in itself is strongly prohibited!”
Savo was in the chair in front of her, with his arm in a sling. Savo just slummed down in his seat, pulling his visor down to try and avoid the Dean’s gaze. “Listen, it wasn’t intentional.. It was my only landing spot! It’s not like I landed on a kid…”
“You jumped onto a school bus, the whole thing shook, a student fell forward and got a concussion!” The Dean would sit up from their seat, glancing down at Savo. “If this continues, we’ll have to revoke our scholarship,”
Savo stood up straight, his widened eyes visible through the visor. “Revoke!? Come on! It was a simple mistake..!-“
“Stride, I’m not sure you understand the severity of this situation. You’ve been reckless with school property since the beginning of your freshman year! You’re a senior now. A STUDENT got injured, you’re lucky they didn’t press any charges against you or the school.”
Savo simply sat there, looking down. “I’m sorry, ma’am.”
“Sorry isn’t enough, I need you to stop this behavior.” She would close her laptop and sit back down. “You wouldn’t want to disappoint us.”
She would sigh, and sign off a notecard. “This is in case your professor has a tardiness policy.” She would hand Savo the note.
Savo would fold it, and put it in his pocket. “Thanks, miss..”
“I expect this behavior to stop.”
“..I understand.”
“Head on to your lecture, I expect to see improvement.”
-
It’s been a while, a few hours have already passed.
Barely in his second class, biology…
Honestly no clue why he took it, sounded fun.
Yeah, he’s heard the bio major’s horror stories on how biology is insanely hard in college, but, hey.
Never hurts to try!
Cole would sit at his table, sitting at a corner as he payed attention to the professor’s safety rules.
Eyewash station, emergency shower…
The was starting to get a little board.
Jeez, how many procedures are there?
And on top of that, they’re on the third floor…
Sure it’s not tiring, but going up the stairs is way less fun than going up the stairs.
The other students at hir table seemed kinda…boring, in the nicest way to put it.
None of them were sat by him, was it his appearance?
‘I knew I was wearing too much red…’ Cole thought to himself, ‘I wonder what outfit I should plan for tomorrow…-‘
The door pushes open, as a boy with black hair and dyed blue strands of hair walked in.
His attire was…pretty odd, for a college student.
I mean, a visor?
But then again, Cole’s the one with a backpack AND a fanny pack across his chest.
But, hey,
Blue boy’s stylish than most people in here.
“You’re late, Savo.” The professor scoffed.
“I’ve got an excuse, bro! Don’t even worry.”
“Don’t call me bro..”
The professor would wait as Savo walked up to the front, handing over the signed off excuse.
“I’m expecting you to preform better, this year.”
“Come on sir! Y’know I’ll do my best.”
“If you’ve done your best you wouldn’t have failed biology your last year..” The professor would mumble, causing a few snickers and giggles arise from the students, “go on, find your seat.”
Savo, slightly embarrassed, just scoffed as he walked to the back, trying to find an extra seat.
He’d glance around, the one near the window? Too obvious.
The one by the door? Eh, perfect view for the professor to catch him on his phone.
The one near the wall? No, it’s too- hold on…
Savo would glance over at one of the students, a boy with brown hair and a red cap.
“Huh.”
He seemed…cool, I guess.
He’s obviously new, due to the fact that Savo hasn’t ever seen him before, and he skips often…
Well, interesting at least.
Cool outfit, knows style,
Let’s take a shot.
Savo would walk over grabbing the seat beside Cole’s corner.
“This seat taken?” He’d ask.
Cole looked over, slightly surprised.
“Uh- no, go on ahead man.”
“Sweet! Thanks bro.” Savo would graciously pull out the chair, sitting down as he slung his messenger bag under the table.
A few seconds pass as the instructions continue, both boys bored out of their mind before Savo leans in to ask, “so, med major?”
“Huh? Oh, nah, I’m a fashion major.”
“Fashion? Figures, cool jacket, cool cap, I see a red theme going on.”
Cole would suppress a chuckle, whispering back to ask, “you?”
“Hm?”
“Are..are you a med major?”
Savo would shrug, “ehhh..more so kinesiology, just took this class because anatomy sucked.”
“Didn’t the prof say you failed..?”
“Well, yeah, but hey. If anything, I’m smart for that, since I still remember most of the stuff from last year!-“
“Lower your voice, Savo.” The professor would scold, drawing attention.
“Ah- right, sorry.” Savo would dismiss it, leaning back in his chair as if to get away.
Cole snickered, trying to keep his cool. “..Pfft..- smart, you say?”
“Hey, that was unlucky. I still got it in me.”
“Sure man, sure…”
They’d stay silent for a moment, the instructions continuing before Savo leaned on the table, elbow propped against the table as he leaned his head on the flat palm of his hand. “So, name?”
“Oh, it’s Cole Brew.”
“Dang, surname too?” Savo would playfully punch Cole’s shoulder. “Jeez, and here I thought it was obvious I was tryna be friends..”
“Wh- Hey! Just trying to be specific…” Cole would say, rubbing his shoulder.
“I’m kidding man, it’s no worries at all. Cool name by the way.” He’d say with a cheeky grin.
“Thanks, and you?” Cole would ask, leaning in as he put both arms crossed on the table, looking interesting.
“..Hm?” Savo would ask, slightly taken aback.
“Your name.” Cole repeated.
“Oh, right! Sorry,” Savo would laugh it off a bit, as he took off his visor to make his appearance more visible, but also in case the professor scold him for the slight reflection it could cause.
“Savo, Savo Stride.”
