    Summary

    I remember the fallen, do they think of me?

    Twelve years.

    It's been twelve years since Tubbo left his old life behind. He wishes he could say that he didn't look back.

    In reality, he misses it every day. He misses the stinging salt of sea spray. He misses having soot-stained hands and the burning smell of gunpowder. He misses the excitement. The fun.

    Most of all, he misses Tommy.

    -

    Tubbo and Ranboo left their seafaring life after their late captain's disappearance. They settled down, built a home, adopted a son.

    Unfortunately, they also used to kill people, and that's the sort of thing that doesn't stop following you.

    Summary

    The shop settles again. Outside, the sky’s gone black. Summer's coming. Seagulls wheel past like giddy children, and you can hear the static of the sea.

    “Hey,” Techno says eventually, quietly, pausing to look at Wil. “Take out the bins, would you?”

    Wilbur groans, pushing off the counter. “Why me?”

    “Bruh. Because I’m doin' everything else?”

    Wilbur drags himself to the back door, feet thumping against the still wet, still sticky tiles. As he passes, he bumps his shoulder against Techno’s again. (Techno will miss this)

    “I’ll have you know, Techno,” he says, hauling the bin out with a grunt. “I do most the work around here. You’d be absolutely useless without me.”
    And he grins, as if it’s just a joke. Like it’s just another line, just another part of the twin thing they have.

     Then he’s gone out the back, and the doors swing shut behind him.

    //

    or, when Techno’s annoying, idiotic, stupid twin brother doesn’t come back after taking out the bins, he must find him. Nobody else will.

    Summary

    Wilbur hums, low and tuneless, before his fingers find the chords. It’s not a sad song, but Techno doesn’t mind. He’s heard it thousands of times before.
    “Blackbird singing in the dead of night // take these broken wings and learn to fly,” Wilbur’s voice is… he’s rushing the words a little—not like he doesn’t want to sing. That’s his style, kinda. Techno can’t describe his voice, despite knowing him since youth. Wil’s voice is frayed at the edges, sweet and chewy.

    Techno leans back on his elbows, watching the first stars prick through the violet haze. His voices have quietened to the extent Techno can hear the rasp of Wilbur’s calluses against the strings.

    When the song ends, Wilbur lays the guitar across his lap and tilts his head. “Again.”

    “What do you mean..I’ll choke, then sing—“

    Wilbur clicks his tongue. “A request. Something you wanna hear.”

    Techno hesitates. The truth sits heavy behind his teeth: just keep playing. Just stay.

    “Play whatever,” sounds less desperate.
    //
    Or, in a drought-stricken village in Texas where crops die faster than Wi… dreams, teenage dirtbag Wilbur and his best best best friend Techno have to learn how to grow up. The hard way.
