Work Text:

Is this some kind of drama? Is my korean blood makes me prone to be living a dramatic life due to the globalization of K-drama?

Jeong Tae-ui stood half-dressed in front of his closet, wearing nothing but a pair of sweatpants as he searched for a shirt.

"This is your chance to leave, Taeil."

And so he said. Tae-ui thought, remembering what Kyle told him over the phone just a week before.

Tae-ui sigh, closing his closet. Hand ruffling his hair in a mild frustration as he walked out the door to the dining table where he would go and have breakfast with the other member of the Riegrow's mansion.

...or maybe saying 'with the member of the riegrow's mansion' was more fitting now, as Tae-ui wasn't sure if he was still considered part of the mansion anymore.

Not now, not when the thing that had tied him to this place no longer existed.

"........."

Tae-ui paused at the entrance to the dining room, looking at the dining table where both the Riegrow brothers had sat down to eat.

Kyle was the first one to notice Tae-ui coming from the stairwell, he greeted Tae-ui with a faint smile, asking Tae-ui to come joined them, clearly making a deliberate effort to ignore the elephant in the room. The other brother merely glanced at Tae-ui. No greeting, no acknowledgement, not even a polite nod. His gaze simply returned to his plate as though Tae-ui was nothing more than a passing breeze.

A sharp prick settled somewhere in Tae-ui's chest.

It wasn't enough to hurt, exactly, but it was enough to remind Tae-ui of the condition that had changed.

Still, there was no point dwelling in it. What was done was done, what happened happen. Instead of lingering on things that could no longer be changed, Tae-ui should probably focus on what came next. Tae-ui better think of what he was going to do from then on, going back to Korea or find a job there in Berlin. Neither option sounded particularly bad compared to staying in a house overflowing with memories that no longer matter to the person he shared it with.

"Taeil, come join us. The marmalade Rita made from the citrus Peter grew is especially delightful today."

"Yes. Thank you, Kyle."

Tae-ui answered politely and pulled out a chair. And Just as he sat down, the man across from him set down his utensils, creating this clinking sound from a fork and knife grazing the plate. He dabbed his mouth with a napkin and stood up, didn't even excuse himself and just went upstairs.

"...pardon him, Taeil. He was never really the type to pay much attention to guest."

Guest.

Tae-ui knew that what Kyle meant by that was not to mind his brother's behavior, for that how he usually was towards a guest. But the exact choice of word Kyle chose to describe Tae-ui's relationship to that guy now, was what help finalized Tae-ui's mind to no longer be living here.

Tae-ui knew Kyle himself didn't saw him as guest, If anything, there was almost a pleading tone to Kyle's words, as though he hoped Tae-ui would overlook the slight. But thinking about it more, It wasn't safe for him to stay here anymore anyway, not under the same roof as an infamous lunatic.

"it's fine, Kyle. Thank you for your consideration."

Tae-ui replied with a polite smile, taking a piece of toast for himself.

Damnit! It's in his room!

Tae-ui cursed inwardly as he realized he left his favorite hoodie in that guy's room. Tae-ui groaned in frustration in the thought of going in to retrieve it—and inevitably running into him—was exhausting.

But it was his favorite hoodie... not because it was expensive or irreplaceable, but because it had reached that rare level of comfort that could only came from years of wear. It wasn't something he could simply buy again.

And so, with a final sigh, off Tae-ui went to take back his hoodie.

*Knock knock*

"I'm just here to grab my clothes."

Without waiting for a response, Tae-ui opened the door and stepped inside. He had spent so much time freely coming and going from this room that it never occurred to him how inappropriate that habit might seem now. After all, that room belonged more to a madman than the guy Tae-ui once knew.

"You're awfully comfortable walking in and out of someone else's room."

"...right," Tae-ui winced, "sorry, I'll be quick."

Tae-ui didn't even spare the guy a glance, instead, he walked straight to the closet and began searching for what he came for.

Sure, barging into someone's room and refusing to even acknowledge them was rude, but Tae-ui couldn't do it.

He was scared.

Scared of the lunatic.

Scared of the fact that somehow, that man had become a danger to him once again.

"Why do you have clothes in my room?"

"...I was using this room while you were gone." Tae-ui continued sorting through the closet. "Don't blame me. Kyle assigned it to me because he didn't think you'd come back."

"Is that so."

That guy replied, not as a question, more of a prolonged hum meant to end the conversation.

For a moment, silence settled between them, then

"What about my wallet?"

Tae-ui paused, "What about your wallet?"

"Why do I have a naked picture of you in it?"

—!!

Tae-ui froze mid-motion. he had completely forgotten how that guy had stuffed a naked photo of Tae-ui into his wallet as revenge for Tae-ui carrying a picture of Chris.

"........."

"Hey," the man's voice came slowly, Tae-ui's grip tightened around the hoodie. "Tell me, who exactly are you?"

A/N: In the novel "Suite Side Passion", Ilay got petty by taking 21+ pictures of Tae-ui due to Tae-ui having Chris's photo in his wallet.

"...I'm Jeong Tae-ui."

"I know," the man replied quick, "the infamous lucky charm of Jeong Jay. I've heard about you."

The man uncrossed his feet and leaned back on the bed, making himself comfortable. His looks almost languid if not for a slight spark of curiosity within his eyes.

"There you go, you know who I am."

Tae-ui gave a closing statement, making it hard for his answer to be replied.

What was the point in explaining anyway? The way he was now, he would have mocked Tae-ui if Tae-ui explained that they were lovers.

Other people still found it hard to believe over the fact that the madman known as 'Rick' got himself a lover. Even Tae-ui was once believed he was schizophrenic to willingly be with that guy. Imagine how Rick himself, the one who knows himself best, would react if told that Jeong Tae-ui, out of all people, the one physically not his type—so Rick said—was his lover.

It might not be an exegeration to say that he might feel offended.

Sigh...

It felt like a waste.

After all those years they had spent together, those years they had spent mounded each other into each other's preferences... It was all gone just like that.

Tae-ui had thought about it before, what he would do if one day they broke up, but Ilay had told Tae-ui not to think of anything unnecessary, and their relationship had progressed for the better anyway, so Tae-ui had never thought about it again.

But now that Tae-ui had gone back into being a stranger to Ilay Riegrow, Tae-ui was seriously at a loss on what he will do considering he had sold his humble apartment in Korea.

A/N: In "Diaphonic Symphonia", Ilay had told Tae-ui to stop imagining a scenario where they'd broke up. And in "Suite Complete Works", Tae-ui and Jae-ui had decided to sell their apartment back in Korea.

"That doesn't explain on why would I have a naked picture of you in my wallet." Rick somehow found a way to replied Tae-ui's closing statement. "You're not even anywhere close to my type for me to do that."

"Nor do I believe I am someone who would do that." Rick added.

Irritated, Tae-ui snapped back at him.

"You're not my type either, you bastard."

It wasn't only from Rick's rude statement, but the compilation of irritation from the absurdity of how the past month had been for him.

And maybe a tiny part of his irritation was directed for Tae-ui himself. From the guilt he felt by the fact that Ilay had lost his memories due to protecting Tae-ui from a sudden ambush.

Tae-ui was joining Ilay on one of his mission, though joined here just meant that he tag along and wait for Ilay to finish his job in a resort of some sort.

Tae-ui remembered every detail of the incident.

It all happened so fast.

Tae-ui was about to lay in his hotel bed when Ilay suddenly broke in through the window, panic etched onto his face as he ignore the broken debris of glass piercing him and immediately went and hugged Tae-ui, shielding him from a detonated bom which followed seconds after.

Ringing.

Only the ringing sound of a damaged ear drum can be heard in that room.

And before Tae-ui could even process on what the hell was going on, he felt himself getting lifted by Ilay over the shoulder.

Though blurry, Tae-ui could faintly see how wounded Ilay's back had become from taking the bom impact. His back was bleeding so badly the blood could even be recognize in his black shirt, dampening the shirt to the point of dripping. Yet, Ilay stood up to lift Tae-ui up and get themselves out of the hotel room.

And even after they got out, enemies swarmed them within the hotel's corridor.

Ilay clicked his tongue in annoyance, seemingly thinking on how to get out of this situation with Tae-ui on his shoulder, and before he could come up with something, Ilay felt his hair getting yanked weakly.

"Get me off. I don't know what the hell is going on, so you better treat me to a vacation in Malibu after this." Tae-ui groan in annoyance, his ears still rang loud but his eyes had adjusted enough for a normal vision. "I'll hold those guys, you think up of something that would get us out of here."

Tae-ui pushed Ilay's shoulder, trying to get off from it. Ilay looked at Tae-ui for a bit, expressions flat before it quickly turned into a wide grin.

Their enemies, it seemed, was also affected by the loud sound of the bom, they looked just as out of it as Tae-ui was, giving Tae-ui and Ilay some time to prepare themselves.

And when Tae-ui was preparing his stance for a fight, no matter how dizzy his head still was, he felt his collar pulled and blodied lips suddenly pressed onto his.

"Hmm."

Tae-ui heard Ilay hum softly, with a final lick to his lips.

There was no need for Tae-ui to think about anything else, nor was it an appropriate time to check it. But somehow Tae-ui just found his eyes darted downward and found that bastard's weapon bulging in between his pants.

"........."

Really now?

Tae-ui sigh inwardly and continue to prepare himself for a fight.

Though inappropriate, Tae-ui had to admit that stunt helped threw their enemies off guard, making it easier if slightly for Tae-ui to take them on.

As Tae-ui took on the enemies, Ilay uickly gone back to the blown up room.

It had been some time since Tae-ui last combat people for real. He did train from time to time, but that was just to maintain his physic, as for real combat where the opponents were seriously trying to take him down, Ta-ui might have to recall a few move that could help him won.

Though, thanks to his routine training, it wasn't that hard to regained his muscle memories for a fight.

It was 1 semi-deaf person vs 3 semi-deaf people. All were disoriented, so their fight looked honestly ridiculous with each person trying his best to assessed their move while being slightly hazy from the bom. If one were to described, it was like a fight between confused chicken, everyone scattered trying to made sense of who should they threw a punch to.

One guy was powering his foot to kick Tae-ui only for his target to be his own allies. The victim, pissed, find a time to threw back a punch before he slipped towards Tae-ui that managed to dodge it. Though, Tae-ui lost his balance and bumped into a wall instead.

It was honestly a sight fit for an action comedy film.

In this case, however, Tae-ui got the upper hand cause Ilay was shielding him from the bom, making the impact less than those who weren't shielded. With that, Tae-ui managed to took on three people just barely and the ringing in his ears had subsided too.

Tae-ui hadn't even had the time to breath out his victory when he felt himself yet lifted again by Ilay-"Hang on tight, Tae-ui."-which immediately ran towards the blown up room and jumped off the window gripping the rope he had used tight.

"!!"

There was no time for Tae-ui to scream as it happened so fast, and the feeling of free falling off a tall building left his heart floating and numb the way people feel when they thought they fucked up enough for their life to be threatened. So Tae-ui just gripped on Ilay's shoulder tightly and buried his face to the crook of Ilay's neck and shut his eyes, hoping he'd still open it to see the earth instead of heaven.

They free fall with a tiny rope as their lifeline towards a truck with transported goods as their cushion for the fall. It was still hurt, damn fucking hurts, in fact. But they survived regardless and they drove off with the truck whom Dorris had stolen.

"........."

The rest of the incident felt like a blur. Especially when Ilay had closed his eyes on top of the moving truck. Tae-ui thought it was just Ilay taking some rest after everything that had happened, so Tae-ui left him be, joining him in closing his eyes and he let himself be taken into wherever it was Dorris will take them. Though, after they had arrived to their destinantion, Ilay was still closing his eyes with no sign of him opening it. Tae-ui thought Ilay was just joking and told him to stop pretending. But when Tae-ui lifted Ilay's arm, it fell down like how it was for unconcious people.

Uneasiness swarm Tae-ui's heart, he called out Ilay's name over and over again, even smacking his face in an attempt to woke Ilay up, shaking his body aggressively as panic seeped in. Dorris, noticed something was going on, immediately went up the truck to check.

Everything went downhill from there.

It felt like a blur during the time they got taken to base and be checked by a private doctor.

And the moment Ilay woke up, with Tae-ui exhaled a sigh of relief, caressing Ilay's hair gently with curses out of his mouth like "You damn bastard, what took you so long to wake up?" eyes pooled with tears just at the edge of the waterline, threatning to fell down.

That was... the moment when Tae-ui knew it was over.

Cause the way Ilay looked at Tae-ui wasn't like how Ilay used to look at Tae-ui, but was like how Rick used to looked at Tae-ui.

"Ah, found it."

Amidst their banter, Tae-ui finally found his hoodie. Not wanting to prolonged the suffocating vibe of being in that room any longer, Tae-ui got up almost immediately and walked towards the door, muttering a light farewell like "see you." But before Tae-ui could fully exit the door, Rick called out to him, asking Tae-ui to come closer.

"...And why should I?" Tae-ui asked slowly, twisting only the upper half of his body toward Rick while his feet remained pointed at the door.

"Come here, Tae-ui." Rick repeated, making no effort to answer the question. Somehow, he simply knew Tae-ui would eventually gave in.

"........."

Tae-ui stood there for a long moment. Annoyance resurfaced, nearly escaping as a curse, yet thankfully, it dissolved into a weary sigh instead.

Tae-ui turned his body around and walked towards Rick. He stop just right where Rick's feet spread apart, making Tae-ui stood in between Rick's knees.

"Now what?" Tae-ui asked irritably. He didn't want to be anywhere near Rick. "What do you want?"

Rick looked up at him, both palms resting on the bed behind him for support. His expression was curious as he tilted his head slightly to one side. Then Rick sat upright, a hand gently touched Tae-ui's waist. The touch made Tae-ui flinch, but the reaction faded almost as quickly as it came, and Tae-ui allowed Rick's hand to remain there.

Rick's fingers traced lightly along Tae-ui's side before suddenly tightening around his waist and pulling him forward.

"Sh*t!"

Caught off guard, Tae-ui instinctively grabbed Rick's shoulders to steady himself. He clicked his tongue but said nothing, only glaring down into Rick's eyes with a deep furrow between his brows.

It was weird.

Rick definitely found Tae-ui boring. Dissapointing, even.

The infamous gilsangchon of Jeong Jae-ui, not to mention making him the nephew of an UNHRDO executive, Jeong Chang-in. Rick had expected there would be far more to Jeong Tae-ui. Instead, the month following his discharge from the hospital had been nothing but a string of disappointments as he watched how painfully ordinary Tae-ui's life was.

And stupid too, judging by how comfortable Tae-ui was in crossing Rick's boundaries.

...or at least, that was how Rick should have felt.

But it was strange.

How come Rick didn't mind Jeong Tae-ui crossing his boundaries by going in and out of his room as he pleased? How come Rick didn't mind someone just casually laying around at the back of the sofa he sat at within the mansion? How come Rick didn't he mind the occasional curses and complaints muttered under Tae-ui's breath in Korean—a language Rick somehow understood? And instead of being angry, he found it delightful instead?

How come Rick didn't mind, when he was still badly injured at the hospital, for someone other than the appointed nurse and doctor to help take care of him, touching him so gently even with the risk of getting killed by the stranger in his vulnerable state?

And how come Rick didn't mind being called by his name...

...Ilay?

Rick wasn't, and never was dumb.

Though he had lost some of his memories, he was still capable of putting simple facts together. The mere fact that Tae-ui lived under the same roof as him was proof enough that Rick must have tolerated him to some extent. Tae-ui wasn't an ordinary guest staying for a day or two, Jeong Tae-ui lived here.

Rick had found Tae-ui's belongings scattered throughout the mansion, and even discovered unfamiliar items left inside his own room—things Tae-ui would casually retrieve with an absent-minded apology for forgetting them there. Surely none of it resembled the relationship between strangers.

It was really strange.

A/N: In the first novel of "Passion", it was shown Ilay's POV about how boring and disappointing he found Tae-ui to be before Tae-ui pointed the gun at Ilay in the canteen. That's why I make it that way too when Ilay lost his memories over Tae-ui in this oneshot. And yes, the back of the sofa was referencing  from "Diaphonic Symphonia" and Ilay understanding Korean was mentioned in the novel "Suite Side of Passion".

Rick knew himself well enough to believe there was no chance he would have tolerated the things Tae-ui did if it had been anyone else. Even Kyle would've had his brains blown out by now if he'd dared to pull half the things Tae-ui did.

Rick woke up from the hospital bed as Rick.

He didn't care even if he lost part of his memories, why should he? Business was still running smoothly. He was still the same person he remembered himself to be. As far as Rick was concerned, there was no reason to recover memories about someone he supposedly didn't care about.

But that guy.

That one f*cking guy.

The name Jeong Tae-ui follow him around like a parasite.

No matter how insignificant their connection to Rick was, people somehow always found a way to mention Jeong Tae-ui around him—or, more accurately, gossip loudly enough for Rick to overhear.

A/N: In the novel "Diaphonic Symphonia" and "Suite Complete Works", it was mentioned that anyone who knows Ilay Riegrow, no matter how small their affiliation is to him, must have also heard the name Jeong Tae-ui and how much Ilay favored him.

Some gossip about how poor Tae-ui was for his life to gone back being in danger.

Some gossip about how Rick's unconscious self had somehow been so thoroughly captivated by Tae-ui that it had spared his life.

Some gossip about their confusion and interest in how everything between the two of them would unfold from there.

Why?

Why did the name Jeong Tae-ui somehow affiliated with Rick so much that it was all Rick will hear wherever he go? And the most annoying part, was that Rick absolutely hate it hearing people imply that Tae-ui's life was in danger because of him.

One time, Rick was so pissed at someone asking him when will he planned to kill Jeong Tae-ui now that Tae-ui was supposedly no longer useful to him, that he kindly sent the guy to the hospital with only one punch.

Unfortunately, the unfortunate man happened to be one of T&R's clients, creating extra work for Kyle and James.

A/N: In the novel "Suite Side Passion", Ilay absolutely despise the idea of Tae-up dying by his hands. Ilay even sulk about it for quite some time until Tae-up had to convince him that he wouldn’t let himself be killed by Ilay for that lunatic to calm down.
.
.
.
.
.

"........."

Rick looked straight into Jeong Tae-ui's frowning eyes.

Neither of them spoke, but Rick didn't want to let go of that guy's waist. It felt so right holding him like that. So right, in fact, that for one fleeting moment, the absurd thought of dying right there and then, in that very position, didn't seem so bad in Rick's mind.

"Who are you?" Rick tightened his grip around Tae-ui's waist, causing a slight wince from him as Tae-ui instinctively tightened his own hold on Rick's shoulders. "Who are you to me, Tae-ui?"

The name rolled effortlessly off Rick's tongue, pronounced with flawless familiarity, as though he had spent years saying it.

"........."

Tae-ui's grip on Rick's shoulders tightened. He clicked his tongue before throwing his head back with a long, exhausted sigh. Then his hands slid from Rick's shoulders to his jaw, cupping it roughly—yet carefully enough not to hurt him.

Without another word, Tae-ui dropped to his knees and pulled Rick into a kiss.

Rick froze for only a second before instinct took over. He found himself returning the kiss just as naturally as if his body remembered what his mind had forgotten.

Then—

Rick felt a sharp tinged on his lips and immediately after, tasted a metallic flavor of a blood he was well familiar with.

Before Rick could process what was happening, he found himself looking at Jeong Tae-ui pulled away, only inches apart from him, eyes pooled with tears and expression clearly shown he was angry.

Lips trembled, breath grew uneven, Tae-ui moved his hands to Rick's collar, tugging at it roughly and wit a cracked voice that sounds 100% pathetic, he repeated the question Rick asked him.

"Who am I to you?" A desperate groan escaped him. "You dare ask me on who am I to you?" Tae-ui lowered his head, trying to regain his composure but surely failed at that, for from then on, it snowballed into a rant.

"You want to know?" he laughed bitterly. "Fine. Let me tell you."

Tae slowly raised up and put one knee on the bed, causing Rick to instinctively leaned backward until he had no choice but to support himself on his elbows.

"My name is Jeong Tae-ui," he said, each word shaking. "A self-diagnosed schizophrenic that Ilay Riegrow claimed as his."

Tae-ui kept on pushing until eventually, Rick found himself lying flat on the bed while Tae-ui hovered above him, still gripping his collar tightly.

"Ilay Riegrow claimed me as his, damn it!" Tae-ui's fingers tightened around Rick's collar. "I'm his!"

Tears finally spilled over, the emotions of the past month breaking through all at once, like a broken dam gave in to time.

"So that makes you, Ilay Riegrow..." Tae-ui's voice broke. "...mine too."

Ah... it was too much. It really was, too much to bear.

"So hurry up, Ilay..." Tae-ui called out Rick's name, the name so easy, so privileged for him to utter. "Hurry up and come back to me." Tae-ui's forehead rested lightly against Rick's. "How long are you going to keep me waiting?"

Finally, Tae-ui's strength gave out. He collapsed against Rick's chest, sobbing lightly, wetting Rick's shirt with his tears and snot. Caring not an ounce of consequences in doing so to Rick-or maybe in this moment, it was Ilay instead of Rick.

"Hurry home..." Tae-ui's voice was barely above a whisper. "Ilay..." another sob, "Come back to me..."

Tae-ui repeated the plea over and over, like a broken clock.

Tae-ui thought he could just move on with his life if one day Ilay abandoned him. He had thought about it before back in Dresden, so Tae-ui should have been prepared for this moment. But living through the very scenario he had once overthought didn't make it any easier. In fact, reality was far crueler than any outcome his imagination had ever managed to come up with.

Tae-ui didn't want to beg Ilay to come back. He would have wanted to turn around, leave, and somehow move on...

Maybe... maybe he could've done that if Ilay had left him for someone else. Maybe.

But because of amnesia??

Tae-ui silently cursed his Korean blood. Surely this had to be the fault of all those K-dramas. He thought that they watched too much of it within Tae-ui's home theater that it somehow manifest itself into their life.

A/N: Tae-ui had once wondered about what he would do if Ilay decided to leave him for another within the novel "Diaphonic Symphonia", but Ilay told Tae-ui to stop thinking something unnecessary. And for those who don't know, Ilay built Tae-ui a home Theatre within the mansion for Tae-ui in "Suite After Works"

"........."

It was weird.

It was damn f*cking weird.

It hurts, uncomfortable. Rick didn't like this.

Rick had never felt this way before, or at least, as far as he remember it.

Rick felt a sharp tinged in his heart, a place he'd never realized could hurt this much.

Slowly, Rick wrapped his arms around Tae-ui and gently stroked his back. Rick didn't know why he did so, nor did he remember if he had ever done that before, but it felt like the right thing to do for him to caress that man's back.

A/N: Ilay in fact, had done that before at the end of "Diaphonic Symphonia" to soothe Tae-ui when Tae-ui was upset about Jae-ui going with Rauman.

They remained like that for a long while until Tae-ui's sobs gradually subsided. And the one who first break the silence was Tae-ui.

"...my position is kind of awkward. Can we change?"

"Ppfft..! Hahaha!"

Rick let out a hearty laugh.

He found the overall condition far too absurd. Perhaps the most ridiculous part was that he knew himself well enough to recognize how impossible his own actions were. Yet, whenever it came to Jeong Tae-ui, he kept making exceptions without even realizing it.

It was truly, truly entertaining.

Still smiling, Rick tightened his embrace before rolling them over to switch their position. Then he dragged Tae-ui to the center of the bed, gently spread one of Tae-ui's arms, and rested his head on it, hugging Tae-ui closer.

"I don't have enough evidence yet to decide whether you're telling the truth," Rick murmured. "But somehow..." he looked up at Tae-ui. "...I can see why you'd be mine."

"........." Tae-ui only hum in response.

He was too tired and feel like there didn't seem to be any point in saying more, so Tae-ui simply remained silent and let Rick use his arm as a pillow.

"I don't know if my memories will return," Rick continued quietly. "or when." His hand slipped underneath the hem of Tae-ui's shirt, coming to rest against the warmth of Tae-ui's body. "But regardless..." Rick's thumb slowly brushed against Tae-ui's skin, tracing his fingers slowly to the chest. "...I'm expecting you to take responsibility for your words."

Rick looked directly into Tae-ui's eyes.

"You said you're mine." a faint smile tugged at the corner of his lips. "So I'll treat you as such." Rick groped on Tae-ui's chest, causing Tae-ui to arch his back slightly in respond, a low groan escaped his lips.

The quiet certainty in Rick's voice left Tae-ui unable to find a response.

Tae-ui closed his eyes for a moment, a low, weary sigh escaped him.

More than anything... Tae-ui hated these lost memories.

Because somewhere beneath them, to Tae-ui,

Rick was still unmistakably Ilay.
