Chapter Text
Akito casts a wary look around his room.
It’s a total mess, and it's overdue a deep clean. His boxes are full of random trinkets he should go through and sort to free up space, and it'd let him put away some of the clutter scattered on his overflowing shelves.
It'll be annoying, but he has the day off, and he really needs to deal with this shit.
Sighing, he takes the first box off the shelf and opens it. At the top sit old CD's he hasn't listened to in ages. Those can stay, so he takes them out and places them to his right. Maybe he could give one of them a spin, remind himself of the music there. He takes the top one off the pile and opens it, then takes out the disc and heads over to his stereo to put it in. Light, upbeat tunes fill his room, and he feels marginally better about what he's putting himself through.
He gets back to the box. Under the CD's hide a few receipts, for items that are long past warranty. He balls those up and throws them at his trashcan, cursing when he misses. There's more CD's, and he slowly flips through one after another. He's almost at the end of the stack, when something slips out from between them.
It's a small packet. He frowns and picks it up, turning it around to see what it is. He doesn't remember having anything like this — oh.
It's a morning glory seed packet.
He still doesn't remember how the hell one of these made it to this box. It's been ages since he grew them, back when he was a kid. It might be nice to try growing them again.
He grabs his phone and gets off the floor. If he's gonna do this, he needs to do it right, to make sure they grow well. He unlocks his phone to check a gardening site, absentmindedly walking towards the garage. There should be some pots and soil there, though he might need to buy a trellis. And the soil might be the wrong kind for morning glories.
In his focus, he nearly walks into the garage door. Cursing, he opens it and heads inside. He uses his phone as a flashlight to look around, spotting a few pots and a pack of soil. He picks out a long, rectangular pot that should work well enough, then narrows his eyes at the soil bag. The site he found says the soil needs to be of moderate fertility with a neutral pH. The bag of soil doesn't specify the pH, claiming that it's ‘universal’. The fuck does that mean? How the hell is he supposed to know if this is the right type of ‘universal’?
If he doesn't wanna wait, he's gonna have to risk it. Surely ‘universal’ means it's around a neutral pH, right? What kinda pH do plants even usually need?
With a sigh, he looks around for a small shovel. He hates to do it like this, but there's nothing else he can really do, and he isn't gonna buy a whole soil bag for one pot. He fills up the pot he chose, then heads back to his room to plant the seeds.
He kicks his door closed, then sits back down next to the box. He picks up the seed packet to read over the instructions. Plant spaced apart, water regularly until they sprout. If he managed to do this when he was a kid, he should be more than fine now.
He's about to rip the packet open, when some italicized text catches his eye. Ipomoea tricolor - Heavenly blue. That must be the color variant. The image on the packet shows some brilliantly blue flowers, the color bold, but not overbearing.
It reminds him of Toya.
He shakes his head with a frown. That's a stupid thought. The flowers are the wrong hue to be similar to Toya's hair color, bold blue instead of soft periwinkle, and since when is he the type of guy to associate flowers with people? That's embarassing. He rips the packet open before more stupid thoughts can spawn in his head, and puts the seeds in the soil, painstakingly spacing them out. He grabs the half empty water bottle off his table and carefully pours it into the pot. After that, he picks the pot up to place it on the shelf next to his window. With a frown, he picks up the CD's and shoves them into the lower shelf, then moves the plant already there out of the way.
There. That's done. His window gets a decent amount of sun, so once they sprout, they should grow well enough. All that's left is to buy a trellis and wait for them to grow.
He looks around his room. He really doesn't wanna organize everything. And he could just go to the store now to get it out of the way.
He turns his stereo off, then grabs his backpack. He wants the morning glories to grow well, so he needs to take care of them properly.
