Work Text:
Atsushi had assumed the mafia was raiding the Ada because of him.
That’s where he was wrong.
Well, half wrong. The first time they had raided, it was because of him. But he quickly learned that this was actually a weekly occurrence, to the point that Kunakida had managed to average out when this event would occur every week. He would block out time in his schedule to deal with the mafia, then go apologise to people for the disturbance.
The 1st time it had happened was a few days after he had joined the agency.
He had noticed the mafia had been targeting him, and had come to the conclusion that him being around the agency would just cause them harm. So, he ran away.
It was very short lived though, as he suddenly heard gunshots ringing through the streets of Yokohama- and when he looked up, terror shot through his eyes as he realised it was coming from the agency.
(He would learn this would soon be dramatic of him).
In that moment he had quickly ran back in a panicked frenzy to the agency, praying to whatever God that everyone inside would be ok.
However.
He very quickly realised he had nothing to worry about. When he arrived inside, he found Kunakida body flipping some old guy with a spectical. Kenji and Yosano were disarming and knocking some bland guys in suits out. Ranpo was sitting casually on a table drinking soda. Kunakida twisted the old guy’s hands.
Atsushi stood there in confusion.
How did a 7 member agency, currently with only 4 members available, manage to fight off an organisation as powerful as the port mafia?
Kunakida angrily stomped over to him. “Where were you kid?! You can’t just run off out of no where! This isn't highschool!” Kunakida continued to yell in his ear while Atsushi stared in confusion seeing Kenji casually throw the mafia members out of the window. Meanwhile, the walls were filled with bullet holes, the windows were shattered, desks were toppled over. The agency was an absolute mess.
Kunakida sighed and started mumbling on about budgeting issues. “We had expected this to happen like normal and factored it into our budget… but do I really hate raids. They mess up everything, good money that could be going towards our investigations being spent on weekly repairs is infuriating at the least…..these repairs will be more costly then normal too due to the amount of damage…” The man continued to mumble to himself as he scrawled calculations down in his notebook.
Yosano examined the room. “Using machine guns too? It’s over the top. Normally they just use their abilities.”
Kunakida continued mumbling. “The black lizard unit of the mafia hasn’t raided us before… I should add this to our data on the raids.” He flipped a page.
Yosano sighed. “Now someone needs to go around the neighbourhood and hand out apologises and gifts. I'm pretty sure it’s your turn, Kunakida.” She turned to him with an exasperated expression.
Kunakida sighed. “So the worst case really has come…”
Atsushi stared in confusion, the worst case? Handing out gifts and cards? And is this really the mafia hit squad everyone feared? His brain hurt from all the thinking.
Kenji continued to throw mafia personal out the building like seeds as Yosano and Kunakida spoke.
Five.
Six..
Seven…
He was sadistically giggling with joy as he threw them out
Nine…
Ten…
Atsushi sighed to himself mumbling. “The agency is so much more violent than I thought…. This wasn't in my contract.”
The 2nd time, more agency members were actually there. The mafia hadn’t been raiding much lately so the part of the budget reserved for repairs had been removed for a few weeks now. Kunakida, Yosano, Junichiro, Ranpo, Kyouka, Dazai and himself were there- Kenji was out on a mission, and Haruno and Naomi were out doing a grocery run.
This time 2 mafia executives and some random lackeys had raided, Dazai-san had said that the executives name’s were Kouyou Ozaki and Nakahara Chuuya, and that they probably raided due to Kyouka having left the mafia for the Ada. Atsushi recognised Kouyou from an encounter they had had near a courthouse the other week.
They had definitely made an entrance, similar to how the black lizard had been last month. Shooting holes in the wall, a few floors were cracked too, and the windows were smashed (the glass had fallen on the inside of the building and not the outside- which was a relief at least). However after that, they calmed down for the most part, Kouyou Ozaki said hello to Kyouka and made a few threats to the agency, and for some reason Dazai was insulting? Or flirting? With the other executive- Nakahara Chuuya. He couldn’t really tell, it was kind of confusing. He wasn’t sure if they knew.
After that, the group had left just as quickly as they had come and Kunakida was back to writing in his notebook. Rigorously calculating the budget they needed to cut for repairs and reorganising his schedule now that it had been interrupted.
Himself and Tanizaki had been assigned to cleaning up glass, and making sure Dazai didn’t steal any in an attempt to commit suicide, or jump out the window, also in an attempt to commit suicide. Luckily neither happened.
However he did still try, and eventually Kunakida hung him by the coat on a hat stand.
Yosano meanwhile was trying to heal Ranpo after he had obtained some injures from the flying glass earlier. His screeches and wines of fear could be heard from the main office.
The 5th time was just before everything went down with the guild.
It was a quiet afternoon, most of the agency were out this time. Kunakida was out helping Junichiro and Naomi run errands, more like supervising them actually. So he wasn’t scolding Dazai, like Dazai wasn’t doing work, but at least he was sitting quietly at his desk reading his how to manual on suicide. Kenji and Kyouka were out at the park getting crepes. Ranpo was speaking to Fukuzawa in his office about something, and Yosano was in the infirmary doing her usual paperwork. He had been filling out paperwork for a recent mission him and Dazai had been on.
That’s when suddenly glass came flying as a black piece of clothing pierced through the window. He ducked down to cover his face, Dazai immediately took his headphones off and stood up from his desk, placing his book down. Aktugawa jumped through a window. Suddenly the door was knocked down and a blonde woman with her hair in a bun walked in, holding a gun. He recognised her from his encounter with Aktugawa shortly after he had joined the agency.
Fukuzawa and Ranpo almost immediately came running out of the president’s office after they had heard the sound, Yosano trailing behind them shortly after.
Aktugawa quickly made haste by attacking him, the blonde girl went to the nearest person- Yosano, pointing her gun at her she shot, an echo banging through the room. Yosano dodged it, while Dazai attacked the girl from behind pinning her to the ground. Suddenly she seemed to speak into an intercom and a few second later some random mafia guys ran through the broken down door frame, Yosano sighed and quickly started attacking them, knocking them out with punches, Fukuzawa saw that Atsushi seemed to be doing fine with Aktugawa and helped Yosano deal with the onslaught of mafia personal running in.
About 10 minutes later, the agency was now in the state it had been in a few months prior when they had raided for the first time since he had joined. Bullet holes covered the walls, glass was shattered, tables destroyed and broken, flipped over, Ranpo sitting at his desk in the center as he didn’t particularly enjoy combat. Why he was never attacked anyway? No one knew. Yosano pressed her heal into one of the mafia member’s faces, he had managed to pin Aktugawa to the ground. The blonde girl had stopped struggling shortly after Aktugawa had gone down, defeated. Dazai walked over to Yosano and started hauling mafia personal up in an attempt to do a Kenji, A.K.A., throw them out the window. However Yosano stopped him for a moment, probably to speak to him. “Disappointed Nakahara didn’t show up to kick your ass?” Atsushi heard Dazai mumble a “shut up” in response.
Even after the agency and port mafia’s truce, it was still a regular occurrence for the mafia to raid them. Atsushi was unsure why the president seemed so level headed about it.
After all, originally when they had started to happen he had seemed annoyed, but since the truce, the president had been fine with it for the most part. Truly peculiar.
