It was over 90 degrees today. AKA, the worst time for your AC to be broken. But that's what it was for the Hamato family. Yoshi had already called the repair guy to come fix it, but according to Yoshi, he wouldn't make it until later in the day. That meant everyone had to find different ways to stay cool until he came. Which wasn't going so well. The backup fan they had wasn't big or strong enough for everyone in the living room.
"Mamaaaa," Mikey whined. "I'm so hooooot."
Tang Shen looked at her youngest, lying flat on the couch in just his briefs and a tank top, with such sympathy in her eyes, feeling just as hot as her boys. She was also wearing a light tank top with a long, light skirt.
"I know sunshine. I do not like this intense heat either. But it'll only be for a few more hours before the repair guy arrives to fix the AC. Then we can have it on full blast as long as we wish."
"But that's in like, foreeeverrrrr," Mikey whined again. "And when will papa get back?"
All Shen could do was nod while she headed to the kitchen and picked up some ice packs from the freezer.
"Papa will return from work in a few hours. In the meantime, here, take one. It'll help you cool off a little."
She did the same thing to the rest of her sons who were also lying around the house in their underwear. It certainly helped cool off their bodies a little, but it did very little for the sweat.
Their mom didn’t know what to do, until she spotted something in the freezer that gave her an idea.
"Why don't we pass the time by making some delicious ice pops?”
She took out an eight pack of rubber ice pop mold from one of the kitchen cabinets and different flavors for them to choose from.
“Let’s go boys. This is the next best thing that will cool us off and it will be a great way for us to bond,” Shen called out to her boys as she walked to the dining room. She put the rubber pack along with the liquid ingredients with different flavors to fill them up with on the table.
"Now, I'd all of you to choose which flavor you'd like to have for your ice pop, so we can fill the pack with it and put them in the freezer. Then we can remove the other ice pops from the fridge in the meantime."
That made everyone stop in their tracks.
"Wait, what do you mean 'other ice pops'?" Raph asked, confused.
"Well, earlier today, as soon as the AC was out, I poured in some flavors in another pack and put them in the freezer so we'd be able to enjoy them during the heat wave," Tang Shen explained while she was putting the last fruit bottle on the table. "They should be done right about now."
That definitely perked everyone's interest. Especially little Mikey's, who suddenly have enough energy to jump in excitement.
"Ooooo, can we eat them now? Pleasepleasepleasepleasepleaseplease?"
Shen, Leo and Donnie chuckled, while Raph just rolled his eyes in annoyance. He always did this every time he saw or heard about something he liked. All he needed was to break out the sad puppy eyes to complete the look.
His mom placed her palm on the top of his head and calmly said, "as soon as we fill in this pack with whatever flavors we desire, we can eat the other ice pops."
"YES! Thank you!"
With that, everyone started picking out which flavors they preferred and filled the packs with different juices and had to be careful putting it in the freezer without spilling anything. Once that was done, Shen quickly took out the other pack and handed the ice pops to her sons. Mikey accepted his with such enthusiasm and started licking it like crazy. Everyone else laughed in amusement.
By the time they were done with their ice pops, everyone had some sticky ice pop residue on their faces. Mikey had the most on both his face and teeth, which he demonstrated by flashing a huge, orange smile at everyone, making everyone laugh in amusement again.
"Thank you, mama," Mikey said as he hugged Tang Shen, which was quickly reciprocated with a hug back and a kiss on his cheek. She helped Mikey wipe off the residue from his face while the rest of her sons thanked her for the delicious ice pops that helped them cool off a little. It was definitely a nice little summer activity.
