Work Text:

The sun had been gradually streaming into the room for a while now, but both boys had been up late into the night, so the morning light felt more like a nuisance than a wake-up call. However, for the first time in months, Dan felt rested, even despite the multiple late nights in a row. When the sunlight started to reach his face, and he could feel the brightness behind his eyelids, he finally decided to stretch languidly, allowing himself to feel the full bed beneath his limbs. He rolled over slowly, blinking his eyes open to take in Phil’s sleeping form.

For the past few days, he was the one waking up to Phil’s blue eyes already gazing at his face, but today, Phil was still snoring quietly. Dan allowed himself the chance to unashamedly stare at Phil. They had spent so much time together over the past three days since they first met at the train station on Friday, but Dan still hadn’t allowed himself the chance to just look. He had waited for this moment for so long. After months of texting and Skype calls, he was in Phil’s house, in his bed. This was something out of a dream.

Dan lifted his finger and lightly traced it down Phil’s cheek, not enough to wake him, but enough to feel the soft stubble there. Dan knew that this was going to be all over soon. They had originally planned for Dan to stay the weekend and then go home on Monday, but now it was Monday morning, and Dan had already refunded his return ticket. He had been so excited to spend time with Phil that he didn’t want to go home or face reality. But Dan knew that the inevitable would be coming soon. Phil would wake up and tell him that it was time for him to go home. Dan was used to people getting tired of spending time with him. Everything that had happened this weekend had been too good to be true.

So for a few minutes, Dan watched Phil sleep, trying not to think about the impending doom he was starting to feel in his stomach. In reality, Dan would happily spend the rest of his life with Phil. It felt like a stupid thought because they had only met in person three days ago, and they weren’t even “officially” dating, but Dan couldn’t think of a better person to be with. Phil was everything Dan had ever dreamed of and more. He didn’t deserve him, and it hurt him to think that Phil might realize that soon enough.

Dan moved his finger down slightly to trace Phil’s collarbone before Phil started to stir, and Dan quickly ripped his finger away. Phil’s eyes opened slowly to meet Dan’s, a lazy smile starting to bloom across his face.

“Good morning,” Phil slurred out, his accent heavy due to his waking state.

Dan smiled back nervously, “Hi.”

Phil rolled over to mirror Dan’s position, “Have you been up long?” He asked, before yawning loudly.

Dan giggled, “Not that long.”

Phil scrunched up his nose, “You should have woken me up. I bet it’s afternoon already anyway.”

Dan shrugged, “I don’t mind. We both need the sleep, really.”

Phil shuffled closer, “You must be hungry, do you want to go somewhere? We can go to the town again if you want to try a new place.”

Dan furrowed his brows, “You want to go out to eat with me?”

Now Phil furrowed his brows, “Why wouldn’t I?”

Dan felt his stomach flip, “I thought you might want to hang out with your friends or family or something. I know I’ve already stayed too long.”

Phil sat up abruptly, “Wait, do you want to go home?”

Dan sat up too, “No!” He cleared his throat, “I mean no, I don’t, but I thought you might want your space again, since I’ve basically invaded it.”

Phil lifted his hand to brush Dan’s fringe out of his eyes, “Dan, we agreed yesterday that you would stay all week. The last thing I want is for you to go home.”

Dan bowed his head. “Are you sure? I thought you might have said that because you felt bad.”

Phil reached forward to lift Dan’s chin up, “Dan, I know it’s soon, but I really, really like you. I would probably have you move in here if you could.

Dan felt like he might cry, “I don’t know what I did to deserve this.”

Phil frowned, “You’re the best person I know. Is that not reason enough?”

Dan felt a tear start to slip down his cheek, and before he could wipe at it, Phil’s thumb was gently brushing it away.

“Dan, I know people have said terrible things to you in the past, but you don’t have to worry about being perfect with me. I like you just how you are, and you do deserve this. You deserve the world.”

Now, Dan couldn’t swipe the tears away fast enough as they started to cascade down his face like a waterfall. “You always know the right thing to say, you spoon. Even if it’s cheesy.”

Phil laughed, reaching forward to wrap Dan in a hug. “Let’s get some food, baby.”

Dan pulled back, laughing wetly, “Baby? Are you going to be the sappy one in this relationship?”

Phil rolled his eyes, but Dan could see a rosy blush blooming across his pale skin, “Let’s just go get food, okay? And then we can play some Mario Kart.”

Dan’s eyes widened, “Food and Mario Kart? I might just stay here forever, Lester.”

Phil smiled, watching Dan get up to go to the bathroom and get dressed for the day. “Here’s to hoping,” he whispered, before getting up to follow him.
