Chapter Text
On one . . . well, you couldn't actually remember when exactly it was when it happened. Despite the memory problems you were having remembering the day, the scenery, or anything to be honest actually, you did remember putting on a headset of sorts. But, well, now you find yourself in an abstract, much too high-contrast world. Everything is made up of these unworldly looks.
This also seemed to qualify for the characters as well, not like you really cared to think when you ended up in this strange place though. It started off with panicking, not about to make logical sense of things, the first to say something actually somewhat comforting was this bright green frog.
They had pink cheeks, with a bowtie the same color, a smile that seemed to be trying to look comforting. They looked rather androgynous despite the eyelashes on their "avatar", though it seemed she was a girl, with the voice, she actually sounded really . . . sweet, in this sarcastic kind of way almost, just the tone, not that she seemed to be trying to be so of course. Goodness, you felt like such an idiot thinking that, just had to be mean about it-
"Um, hey? You there?" The frog said, waving her hand in front of you a bit, a bit concerned if you were reading her face right.
"Oh-! Sorry! I'm just . . . really . . . out of it right now" you started before trailing off, your attention focusing of the rest of the people nearby.
Before you were a couple people, well, at least you weren't the only one? The first was a rather tall, light purple colored humanoid rabbit with pink overalls. He was awfully skinny too, he seemed to be this strange mix of uncaring, concerned, and curious, watching you. The second was a clown, a bit above average height, not particularly tall though, seemed to mostly be his cone-shaped hat. He seemed decently friendly, concerned, but supposedly optimistic almost, he seemed like a good guy. The third was this chess piece, a king from the couple matches you can remember still in your mind somewhat. He was in a deeper purple robe with fluff on the edges, he didn't have arms, just floating hands, and his eyes were uneven. He looked confused, almost crazy, borderline unstable, but he didn't seem like a bad guy, he was just a bit confused, he certainly seemed to be the oldest one, so maybe that's why.
Wait- remember? You remembered chess matches? Oh god, why can't you remember anything?! What's your name?! Who is your family? You're friends? As you started thinking, your vision began to unfocused, blurring everything in the process, your breathing quickening immediately, another panic attack.
"Whoa-! Hey! Calm down now, freshy!" The frog started saying, taking your shoulders, just getting more concerned.
You looked at them, confused, not knowing what to think, subconsciously tensing your jaw, staring, you didn't know whether to run or just sit there and cry from everything going on, breathing starting to calm down just slightly, though you felt a bit wobbly.
"Uh- Kauf, Jax, get a chair, one of you! I think they're gonna just roll over and die at this point!" She yelled to the people behind her, in which the clown scurried off to find something, if he could.
You just stood there, you couldn't tell if it took forever, or was much too fast, but a chair was there, just sitting there.
You were just mumbling to yourself, trying to make sense of things, "what's my name? Why can't I remember it? Why do I feel like this? This is just a game. Yeah. Just a game. I-I can just take the headset off at any moment, so no need to panic, I'm fine." You just kept whispering to yourself, non-stop, anything to keep your mind at bay.
"Hey . . . It's okay, really, but, not to alarm you, you can't really just . . . Take the headset off? None of us remember much either, but it's okay, see?" The frog tried to say, which seemed to be in vain when you didn't respond, so she continued, "My name in here is Ribbit, do you need help picking out a name, freshy?"
You finally stopped for a second, looking up a bit at the frog, or, the girl by the name of Ribbit, you didn't know what to say, you couldn't just make something up ok the spot like that.
But your thoughts were cut off by a person with teeth and gums with eyeballs within the "mouth" of a floating head you could call it, the rest of his body was an awfully cartoon-like person with a red ringmaster's tux kind of. He suddenly just flew in behind you, yelling, which then made you fall out of the chair at the surprise, especially with such a horrifying looking creature kind of, " WELL I CAN PICK A NAME FOR YOU! I'm Caine by the way!" He yelled, much too excited.
As he yelled, you getting helped back up by Ribbit, a giant lotto machine looking thing fell from the ceiling as the guy named Caine cracked the lever, the letters in the machine spinning before landing on the name "Aster" (sorry, this would be really repetitive without a name, so I picked a random name and old OC of mine had, you will not also look like them or anything though, don't worry). You looked at the name a bit, it didn't sound bad really, so you just shrugged a bit, going along with it for the sake of your sanity.
"GREAT!" The ringmaster announced before the machine suddenly dissipated before your eyes.
"Well, a better name than mine at least" Ribbit laughed a bit, "it's a little low effort for my name to be Ribbit, considering I'm a frog, but I guess I should've though it through before picking it."
You looked at her a bit, she looked kinda fun and sweet, this might not be so bad actually, she was calming, well, the environment would be too if you didn't hear this sudden voice cut in, grating almost and definitely someone kind of young, early twenties for sure.
"Yeah, you could've gotten a name like, I don't know, Jax!" The purple rabbit said, putting emphasis on the name, so it'd be good to assume that was his name you thought before he continued, "Too bad I already took it" well, that was definitely his name at least.
"Oh, yeah, yeah, Jax! You moron!" Ribbit laughed, that is before turning to you, "how about WE tour you around the place, Aster?" She said, putting emphasis on the we a lot.
"C'mon! I don't wanna tour around the newbie!" Jax practically whined, but seemingly was just joking.
"You'll be fine, dumb#$$!" Ribbit joked, a censor beeping over the curse word in her sentence with a whacky type of sound. "C'mon, Aster, wanna check some things out?" She continued, holding her hand out with a small smile.
You didn't really know what to think about it, it felt nicer than it should have, but that could only be because you were feeling weird, right? In the end though, you took her hand, calming down really quickly, she certainly did have a way with words that made your heart- nevermind, no need to talk about it actually, none at all. You just followed her, Jax, and Kaufmo, as you could only assume by process of elimination. The three showed you around, as well as Caine appearing multiple times, budding in to talk about the world he apparently created, it was all so confusing, but you were too confused about it to really process all of it as you should have. It was rather nice to stick by Ribbit's side though, she was really cool, you knew that much at least.
