Chapter Text
The patrol was supposed to be easy. Izuku would trail behind Katsuki, they would wonder around town, and make sure no villains were causing a ruckus.
But it gets more complicated when a villian with big blue eyes rounds the corner of an alley, holding multiple bags of stolen items.
"Hey, get back here asshole!" Katsuki screamed, immediately chasing after the villain.
"Kacchan, wait!" Izuku tried his best to follow close by.
The pair cornered the villian in an alley, and finally they spoke.
"You kids are so annoying. I'm only a small time thug, you could be catching someone more important."
Izuku held out a hand, "Give us the stolen goods and we won't have to use force."
The villian seemed to consider it for a moment, slowly extending its hand.
The villian swung the bag of goods at Katsuki's direction, possibly to distract him, then the villian grinned widely and grabbed Izuku's wrist, holding a firm grip. Katsuki backed up when some of the items were flung at him.
Izuku went to pull away and counter attack, but his limbs went numb. He felt a wave of exhaustion wash over him and suddenly he didn't have the power to stand anymore. Izuku fell to the floor, and Katsuki attempted to use his quirk to disorientate the villian, but the villian threw a punch to Katsuki's nose.
The villian landed many hits on Katsuki, which caused Izuku great concern, since he couldn't be of any assistance.
"Kacchan- " Izuku attempted to stand up again, but his legs were like wet noodles. He could barely keep his eyes open, what quirk could this possibly be? A touch based quirk that made you loose all control of your body?
"Feeling funny over there? Don't worry, your friend will too when I'm done with him."
Katsuki stepped infront of Izuku on the floor, to aim his right arm at the villian, "Quit talking!"
He set off a medium sized explosion, trying to cause the most damage to the villian and not the alleyway.
Izuku tried to keep his eyes open, but soon he felt himself drift into unconsciousness on the floor.
Shit.
That's all Katsuki could think when the smoke cleared and the villian was gone. His arm was busted from the explosion, his head hurt like a motherfucker, and now Deku was passed out on the floor.
Katsuki crouched down and put two fingers up to his neck, when he felt the pulse he yelled, "Hey Deku, wake the fuck up."
Izuku's eyelids stayed shut, and seemed peacefully unaware.
"Deku. Wake. Up. " Katsuki shook Izuku.
Nothing. Just a limp boy who was saying nothing.
Katsuki winced as he tried to pick him up and drag them both out of the alleyway.
Had the explosion really been that big? Maybe he was just distracted from Deku plopping on the floor like a sausage.
Katsuki reached the street and saw a few civilians, probably wondering what the explosion was from.
"Oh my goodness, are you both alright?" An old lady said.
"Yeah we're fine just gotta drag his ass back to.." Katsuki groaned as his head throbbed again, that villian only hit his face once, why did his head hurt so much?
Then he heard a particular voice and saw that red spiky hair.
"Bakubro! I was near town when I heard that explos-" Kirishima stopped talking when he saw the two of them banged up.
"Quit- your yappin.." Katsuki mumbled.
"Is Midoriya alright? Why's he passed out?"
"S'fine... Jus' som' villians quirk.."
"A villian? You're talking all funny dude, maybe you should lay down.."
Katsuki shook his head, "mm fine, Shitty Hair." Then he immediately fell to the floor, and obviously Deku fell with him.
Kirishima knelt down to the both of them, "Bakugo, what happened?"
Katsuki tried to shove Izuku's limp body off of himself, but he couldn't bring his arm up without it hurting.
Katsuki was getting very irritated, "Get him off of..."
Then all he could see was a giant red blur.
When Katsuki finally came to, he opened his eyes to bright lights. He winced and tried to sit up, but something pressed down on his arm.
His eyes were met with his mother, "Ka- -ki?"
Katsuki mumbled, "Huh?"
She just wrinkled her eyebrow, "You fe- -ing al- -ght?"
"Speak up old hag, I can't hear a word your fucking saying."
Then Katsuki could finally make out what she was saying.
"Calm down." Mitsuki, to Katsuki's disbelief, seemed like she was trying to comfort him.
"Why are you acting so weird? Where's Deku? Where's that villian? Did they get his ass?"
She pressed a button on the wall, and ignored Katsuki's questions.
Recovery Girl soon entered the room, looking calm and collected.
"Welcome back Katsuki, how are you feeling?" She approached the side of his bed.
He rolled his eyes, "I'm fine besides my arm hurting and my head annoying the shit outa me."
She nodded, "Indeed, Kirishima told us when he arrived, he had heard an explosion, saw you carrying Midoriya out of an alleyway, and then tried to get information what happened. From what Kirishima described, you were slurring your words and then you collapsed. Were you the cause of the explosion?"
"Me and Deku were on patrol and we saw this villian holding a bunch of stolen shit. We cornered him in that alleyway, and Deku tried to get them to hand the bag over. Instead, the villian threw the bag of stuff at me, and attacked Deku. I don't know what quirk they had, but it made Deku fall to the floor." He thought some more, "The villian grabbed Deku's wrist, so maybe they need to get handsy to use their quirk. I engaged in combat with the villian right after Izuku fell unconscious. I did use my quirk and attempted to keep the explosion small. I guess it failed because it really jacked my arm up. Anyways, when the smoke cleared the villian scurried away and that's when I dragged the nerd out of the alley."
Recovery Girl hummed, "Did the villian touch you at all?"
"Yeah they landed a few punches, but never grabbed me like Deku, so I'm thinking it's not as effective if its just the knuckles and not an entire hand."
Recovery Girl stood up, "This is very valuable information, I'll definitely hand this over to the detective for this case, now get some rest."
Katsuki managed to sit up, "Where's Deku?"
Mitsuki shared a look with Recovery Girl, and Katsuki immediately panicked.
Is he fucking dead, what happened?
"He's not dead if that'swhat you're thinking, they just don't want him getting visitor's right now. I suggest you rest until I'm at the will to give you information." Recovery Girl turned around and exited the room.
Katsuki looked at his mother, "Do you know what happened to him?"
She looked conflicted for a moment, "Katsuki, don't stress yourself out. I think it's best we take this slow."
Katsuki narrowed his eyes, "If he's not dead then why did that old hag look at you like that? Like something terrible happened?"
"Oi. Don't call Recovery Girl that. You're overthinking this Katsuki. He's fine. The doctors just need to- evaluate somethings dealing with what the villians quirk did."
Katsuki tried his hardest not to think about it, but it was useless.
Why did he care so much? He checked the nerd for a pulse and he felt it, so he shouldn't pester himself with worry.
"Is the old man here?" Katsuki spoke up again.
"If you mean the man who contributed to your life, as in your father, yes. He went to get snacks for you when you started to stir."
Speak of the devil, the man himself enters the room.
"How you feelin' Kats?" He set down waterbottles, and a few bags of chips on the side table.
"Head hurts. Arm hurts." Katsuki responded bluntly.
"Are you worried about Izuku?"
Katsuki paused for a second, "I'm not worried about him."
"Hm. Seemed different when you demanded to know where he was a few minutes ago." Mitsuki grinned.
"I didn't demand anything I was just curious." Katsuki explained.
Masaru sighed, "It's okay to worry about him, you two have known each other for a long time."
"I don't worry about Deku. He's just a stupid idiot who gets himself into bad situations because he's dumb. Therefore, I'm curious to see what consequences he's faced."
His mother and father look at each other for a moment, and Katsuki rolls his eyes.
"Can people stop fucking doing that? I can handle whatever happened to his dumbass."
"Recovery Girl wants to you to see for yourself, when the time is right." Masaru fidgeted with his fingers.
Mitsuki nodded, "He's here in the hospital. But that means you can't flip out. No matter what Katsuki, you have to promise you won't scream or startle Izuku."
Katsuki narrowed his eyes, seeing how sure everyone was that he would react in some crazy way, "Alright fine, I promise."
It was a little over an hour before Recovery Girl came back and Katsyki stopped talking with his parents.
"Katsuki, if you're able to stand without your head hurting, I'll allow you to visit Izuku. I'm sure your parents have already told you he is not to be startled no matter his condition, do you understand?"
Katsuki nodded "Yeah I understand."
He pulled his legs out from under the covers, and slowly turned to drape them off the bed, careful not to hurt or strain his arm.
Then he hopped off the mattress and wobbled a little, since his legs were numb.
"My head doesn't hurt." Katsuki noted.
"Okay, if you're ready, follow me."
Katsuki trailed behind Recovery Girl in the hallway of the campus hospital. When they reached the room that was supposedly Izuku's, Katsuki saw Auntie Inko sitting outside of the room at a chair.
When she met Katsuki's eyes he saw that her cheeks were stained with tears, "Hello Katsuki."
Then Katsuki grew even more nervous, what could've happened to the nerd that his mom wasn't in there talking to him?
As if reading his mind she smiled, "Before you panic, I'm just out here because I was told you were visiting him. Thought you could use some space."
That eased Katsuki's worries slightly.
Recovery Girl opened the door and entered the room with Katsuki.
Izuku was lying in bed, slightly turned upwards. Deku was wide awake, he didn't seem to be hurt, and Katsuki couldn't see any wounds on him. What could be so bad?
Recovery Girl spoke, "You have a visitor Izuku, please don't exhaust yourself too much. I'll be back in a moment."
When Izuku looked at katsuki, he seemed almost confused for a moment.
"Hi Deku." Katsuki finally said. Katsuki expected a cheerful, Kacchan! Or something similar.
Deku seemed even more confused he watched Katsuki sit in the chair beside his bed, "Izuku." He corrected.
Katsuki's brow furrowed, "What?"
Izuku smiled, "My name is Izuku Midoriya, and yours?"
"What game are you playin' Deku? I know your name."
Izuku laughed awkwardly, "I don't know yours."
Katsuki's face fell, he's joking right?
"That's- that's not funny."
Deku frowned, "Sorry, what did you say your name was?"
Katsuki had never been more scared. All those years just faded and erased from Deku's memory. Why did that suddenly mean everything to him? Why did he feel like he was going to throw up? He knew he couldn't yell, or force him to remember again. Katsuki felt his eyes stinging, a rare occurrence. He noticed how expecting Izuku was looking, like he just genuinely wanted to know.
"It's-" Katsuki hesitated, "Katsuki Bakugo." His voice almost cracked.
Izuku nodded, "Nice to uh- meet you Bakugo." Katsuki hated how the word sounded coming from Izuku's mouth.
"Do you not remember me?"
"Have we met before? Are you also a U.A. student?" Izuku questioned.
Katsuki just nodded, "Yeah I'm a student at U.A."
"Oh, I'm sorry I don't remember you."
Katsuki bit his tongue, he needed to leave.
"Oh, bye Bakugo!"
Katsuki pushed open the door and tried to get back to his room without anyone stopping him, but Inko grabbed him by his hand.
"Katsuki, please don't be upset- the doctors are pretty positive this is only temporary. Once they capture the villian, I'm sure they can reverse this quirk."
Katsuki avoided her eyes, "Does he remember you?"
Inko nodded slowly, "I know it must be unfair Katsuki. There's always something that feels more important when you don't have it anymore."
Katsuki let her follow him back to his hospital bed.
Then he couldn't hold it in anymore and felt his eyes get more watery. Inko held a comforting hand on his shoulder.
"I don't know why I'm reacting this way. I don't give a damn about him." Katsuki protested againt his body's reaction.
Inko smiled, "I think you do. Otherwise, you would be greatful he's forgotten you."
Katsuki wiped at his tears, trying to stop them from spilling at all, but they continued. Inko sat beside him in the chair, and handed him tissues every so often.
Katsuki had never cried for that long before, and he felt pathetic.
I don't care about Deku.
He repeated the phrase until he eventually fell asleep in his bed.
Katsuki dreamt about a lake. He dreamt he crossed a log and slipped into cold water, his pants soaking. Then he saw a hand outstretched towards him. Why did the hand offend him so much? He wasn't sure. He wanted to take the hand, but instead he slapped it away.
