Work Text:

Flopping onto the sofa, Gem sighed a bit as she pulled her legs up underneath of her and tucked her wings carefully behind her. A small chuckle sounded from the other room. The ginger rolled her eyes a bit as she finished getting comfortable. Her hair sat in a loose braid over her shoulder and her baggy shirt fell onto her crisscrossed legs. She rested her head against the back of the sofa — in a way that didn't ache her wings — and let her eyes flutter closed. It was such a long day and her body ached all over, but it was done and she was free. The back of her castle had finally been shaped out and was ready for proper structure. She hoped that progress would keep Joel off her tail about it for a bit longer.

The weight on the sofa shifted a bit causing Gem to open an eye. What met her was a wolf girl looking down at her with a smile on her face. She had been sitting with her legs tucked to the side under her, leaning against the back of the sofa on one arms. Pearl always sat in weird ways, though this was one of the most normal. Gem rolled her eyes, a smile peaking onto her face, as she leaned forward, pulling the brunette against her. Small giggles, erupted from both woman, filling the room with soft joy. Gem yawned slightly as the energy died down again, releasing Pearl from their awkward hold.

"I made hot cocoa, marshmallows and whipped topping, just like you like it," Pearl said after getting comfortable. She passed the warm, mug to Gem and then pulled her close to her own hip. Gem smiled at the cup before taking a sip at it. The ginger rested her head against Pearls shoulder, letting her antennae relax, closing her eyes softly. She found it easy to lose herself in the moment. The smell of the fresh cocoa, the feeling of Pearl's weight and hold against her. The warmth in her hand and against her body. It was easy to forget that she had work to do the next day. Easy to forget she had worked herself to the bone recently to get more progress done.

Warmth spread through Gem's chest as Pearl rested her head on Gem's own. There was nothing more she wanted than this moment right now. And maybe some food, but if it meant ruining this, she would rather starve. unfortunately for her, her stomach thought otherwise, letting out a low grumble that sounded louder than it was in the quiet house. Gem frowned as the weight against her head lifted and then shifted away from her all together. Lifting her head, Gem opened her eyes to a concerned stare from Pearl. She frowned at the loss of the moment, pouting almost subconsciously at Pearl.

"Are you hungry?" She inquired. "When did you last eat?" The concern was clear in Pearl's voice and face, as she studied Gem. Deciding after a moment of silence that the answer didn't matter.

Gem shot upright properly, a look of distraught on her face. "Where are you going??" she nearly demanded. A pang of guilt rang through her that Pearl had to be the one to make sure she ate properly.

"To get you food, duh," She said almost too chill and nonchalantly. Springing to the kitchen with joy in her step. "And don't feel bad! I'm happy to provide for you!" She yelled from the kitchen, having already started preparing food. Gem pushed herself to get up and help, not wanting Pearl to be the only one doing the work. "Hang on now, Who said you could get up?"

"I did. It's my house."

"Our house," Pearl said flatly, staring at Gem like she said something stupid. Which if you ask Pearl, she did. "Now go back to that sofa, and sit your ass down, and wait for me to bring you food."

"And if I don't?" Gem teased.

"I will pick you up and take you there myself." The response was said over her shoulder as she had already turned away from Gem. The ginger thought about it for a moment until deciding to push herself up and plop herself onto the opposing counter top, swinging her feet slightly. She let her wings and antennae fall limp again as she waited for Pearl to notice her action.

"Y'know, I didn't hear any steps away, gem," Pearl said, a small growl in her voice, but still playful in a way. The brunette turned around slowly, seeing Gem resting on the counter, swinging her legs like there was nothing in the world that mattered. Pearl stared at her for a moment before sighing and shaking her head slightly. She took a step towards the girl, still taller than her even as Gem sat on the counter. She looked down at Gem, her ears fluffing up a little bit to act as a sign of lighthearted ness. "This is not what I meant, and you know that."

"I don't know what you could possibly be talking about," Gem said innocently. She laid the 'innocent girl' tone on thick as she batted her eyelash at Pearl. "I'm sitting down, resting and all that, is that not what you wanted." She watched as Pearls expression shifted slightly, clearly unable to decide how to react. Gem kept kicking her legs, careful not to kick Pearl in the process as she looked up at the brunette standing in front of her. "I thought you were making me food?" She asked sweetly.

"I am," Pearl grumbled. Rolling her eyes, Pearl turned back over her shoulder back to the sandwich half made on the counter. Gem smiled to herself, clear she won this tussle until Pearl whipped around once more. Pearl tilted Gem's head up and then promptly kissed her sweetly. Pulling away after a few seconds, Pearl smiled at the now flustered Gem, getting the final say in, and then returning to the food she was preparing.
