His finger pressed and held the doorbell, temporarily holding it down so that the resident of the apartment would definitely hear it ringing. Nightmare knew his old friend well, so he was pretty sure that Error was wearing headphones or earplugs again. Soon, when the trill of the bell died down, Nightmare could hear the distant sounds of scuffling, familiar swearing, and then approaching footsteps. He didn't have to wait long, the door opened pretty quickly.
"Night? What do you want?” instead of greeting, Error immediately asked, appearing in the doorway. He was wearing only shorts, his hair was a complete mess, and his face was so red that even his swarthy skin color couldn't hide it.
"You look like you've been running laps," Nightmare said a rather obvious thing.
"Forget it,” Glitch just waved his hand in response. “So what do you need?”
“I wrote to you, didn't you see it?” Nightmare answered the question with a question, but Error just shook his head. “I forgot my headphones here yesterday. I wanted to come in and pick them up.”
“Okay, come in, but quickly,” Glitch let his friend inside, stepping aside. Nightmare came in, took off his shoes pretty quickly, and then immediately went on to Error's room.
“Do you mind if I look for a bit? I remember roughly where I left them," looking around in his friend's room, which had rather dim lighting and a suspiciously carelessly made bed, as if someone had recently bounced on it, Nightmare asked.
"Yes, but not for long,” Error reluctantly agreed, stopping in the doorway of the room.
Surprisingly, Error's room was in a pretty big mess, as if a small living hurricane had swept through the whole room. The headphones were not found on the table, although he had left them there. Nightmare cursed softly and began to search further. Suddenly, a rather strange sound came from the side of the closet, after which one of the doors opened slightly. Error immediately found himself next to his own wardrobe and hurried to close the door.
"Maybe they're there?" suggested Nightmare, gesturing at the closet.
“This is the last place they could possibly be," Glitch replied without moving away from the closet, as if he was hiding something there.
Nightmare shrugged his shoulders in response and then continued rummaging through the mess. The treasured device was nowhere to be found, but Nightmare was sure that he had left it in his friend's room. It looked like this was going to take a while, so it's worth at least break silence with a conversation.
“By the way, we're going to meet up with the guys in an hour. Are you sure you don't want to come with us?” Nightmare asked, as he continued searching.
“Are you talking about your tradition of celebrating the fourteenth of February in the company of singles?” Error asked to make sure.
"Exactly. You didn't mind at all last year. I'm even surprised that you refused so easily," Nightmare replied, picking up some strange pile of stuff.
“I'm too lazy. I just want to lie at home today," Glitch waved off the suggestion.
"Then whatever you want, I won't interfere with lazing around,” Nightmare said, and then cursed softly again. They were nowhere. Literally nowhere. It was as if they had fallen through the ground.
Suddenly, when Nightmare was standing with his back to Error, the closet door opened again. This time, someone's fingers poked out of it, holding a small box with wireless headphones. Glitch took it pretty quickly, and then shut the door just as fast.
"These, by any chance?" drawing Nightmare's attention to himself, Glitch asked and handed the device to his friend.
“Yes, they are," Nightmare replied with a sigh of relief, after which he took the headphones from his friend's hands and headed for the exit.
He put on his shoes quickly, so in less than a minute he was standing on the landing and was about to go when he remembered something:
“By the way, Dream is getting all worked up, he can't get through to Ink. If you meet him, tell him, otherwise Dream may contact the police.”
“Me? Give it to Ink? Are you serious?” Error asked, arching an incredulous eyebrow.
“Well, I never know, suddenly you're just the worst enemies in public, but in fact you're fucking in some secluded corner," Nightmare shrugged, but then, noticing a look not particularly pleased with an unsuccessful joke, he hurried to continue: "Yes, you're right, it sounds ridiculous.”
"I'm glad you figured that out for yourself,” Glitch replied. “Okay, see you.”
The door to the apartment closed rather quickly, separating its owner from Nightmare who was already on his way out. Error quickly locked it, and then quickly found himself in his room. The closet door was immediately swiftly opened, forcing the blond wonder named Ink, who was hiding inside, wearing only one of Error's long T-shirts hastily thrown on, to fall out with a bang.
"’Let's turn it on silent mode so that no one interrupts,’ ‘You don't want us to be interrupted like that’," Error immediately began to mimic Ink with extreme displeasure. "Like hell I'm ever listening to you again, idiot."
"It's strange, but this is the third time I've heard this from you," Ink replied with a chuckle.
"Oh, so you remember that? Come on, call Dream already. I don't need you to be reported missing, you idiot," Error shoved the phone into Ink's hands in order to change the subject he had started as quickly as possible.
“Yes, yes, of course," Ink replied without removing the smile from his face, after which, still sitting on the floor by the closet, he dialed the number of a worried friend.
As it turned out, Dream was really very worried, because someone promised to get in touch, but wow, how unexpected, he forgot about it. Ink spent quite a long time making excuses, saying that he was just in the shower, and assured his friend that everything was completely, absolutely, totally fine with him and there was no need to worry. After a few minutes, when Error was already beginning to think that this dialogue would drag on for a whole hour, Glitch decided to move. He approached Ink from behind, spreading his legs wide, sat close, hooked his arms around Ink's waist and rested his chin on his shoulder. Soon Ink finally said goodbye to his friend, dropped the call, turned the phone off silent, and then exhaled with relief.
“I don't understand why it's so hard to just tell them all,” putting the phone aside, Ink asked.
“Maybe because it's suicide? I almost broke your arm in a fight six months ago, in case you forgot," Glitch replied, maintaining a dissatisfied and slightly offended tone.
"And I broke your nose," Ink replied with a chuckle.
Error looked at Ink. He was still smiling at him with that hopelessly lovestruck expression, completely unconcerned about the awkward situation he'd caused, which, in fact, was his fault, and rested his head on Ink’s shoulder. Thin fingers buried in the dark hair, turning the hairstyle into an even bigger nest than before. As always, he was still sloppy, short-sighted and incredibly annoying, but extremely loving.
"You're pissing me off," Glitch muttered without lifting his head from Ink's shoulder.
"I love you too,” Ink replied with all his adoration, as always.
