Chapter 1: Cereal

Chapter Text

Steven looked at his phone. 5:00 A.M. Again? He needed to sleep. Why couldn't he sleep?  He sighed and got up from his bed rubbing his face. Might as well do something.

He went downstairs and to the kitchen, grabbed a bowl and added milk and cereal into it. He wasn't hungry, but maybe the cereal were able to make him fall asleep again. The temple was dark and silent, it felt...empty without any of the gems arround, just like...He shook his head. He neded to focus on eating the cereal.

He sat on the table and started eating with a spoon. It tasted so...normal. He didn't hate it, but it wasn't special. Just something he ate everyday at this time when he couldn't sleep. It's not like he expected anything more.

He heard the door for the gem rooms open and glanced towards it. Amethyst? He forgot she sometimes likes to eat snacks in the early morning. "Hey dude" she greeted, but then her eyebrow raised. "Wait, what are you doing up so early?" she asked.

Steven didn't stop eating. "Couldn't sleep" he shrugged like it was the most common thing ever. He didn't lie, but she knew there was more. "Why?" she pressed a bit.

The boy stopped eating. "No reason" his grip on the spoon tightened. He didn't want to deal with this so early or better said, not ever.

Suddenly drops of water started staining the glasses. Rain. Rain wasn't bad or so he thought. "Steven, you know you can tell me...right, dude?" Amethyst said sitting in front of him.

Steven ate a spoonful of cereal and nodded. He knew, he just...he didn't even know what he wanted. He sighed and didn't say a word. for a bit. "Yeah..." he finally answered, his eyes not leaving the bowl.

None of them said anything and he kept eating the cereal until he finished and pushed forward. He could clean it later.

When he was about to get up and go back to his room the rain became stronger. Storm?  No, no, no. He stopped, looking out the window.
