“Are you worried about getting eaten by a bear?” Langdon asked, glancing at her.
“I’m actually more worried about you getting eaten by a bear,” Mel said. “And then me having to tell your wife and kids that I just stood by and watched it happen because I don’t know how to fight a bear. You’re not supposed to fight grizzlies, but I don’t think we’d see one of those here unless it’s really lost, or got loose from the zoo. And black bears, I know you’re supposed to try to stand tall and then find a weapon, but I’m not very tall, and I don’t always have good aim. I mean, sometimes I do, but if I’m trying to fight off a bear, I don’t think I’ll be able to throw very straight.”
Langdon’s head rolled as he listened. “You won’t have to tell my wife and kids that I was eaten by a bear, Mel.”
“You don’t know that,” she said.
“I promise.”
