Om Nom: On The Road

Summary:

Aizawa decides to collaborate with the heroics class for homeroom and has his students pair up to choose a topic that they could look into to find something about it that's valuable to protect as a hero.

Midoriya and Momo, naturally, choose "Food" from the topic list.

Notes:

Another IzuMomo fic! :D

I have so many fluffy and sweet ideas for the two of them here :D

I hope you enjoy (even though this is just a setup chapter :P)!

Chapter 1: Prologue: Assignment

Chapter Text

The two of them supposed that it was probably bound to happen, but they just weren’t quite sure when.

Of course, it just so happened that Aizawa would be the one to grant them such an opportunity.

“Midoriya. Yaoyorozu. You two are a pair.”

They sure were.

Well, now they were a pair in two ways, now, for Aizawa had decided that they would be working together for a project that they would be doing in collaboration with the Foundational Heroics class, unique only to 1-A and 1-B, of course.

The two of them tried to discreetly look at each other, and when their eyes looked, their hearts skipped a beat. Of course, it wasn’t as though that was actually helping them. It would’ve been less suspicious if they just looked at each other normally, because, duh, they were going to be working on a project together.

Of course, the short eye contact they nodded and the attempt at a casual nod from Midoriya which failed miserably went more or less unnoticed by everyone else as Aizawa continued naming off pairs.

Sero and Uraraka. Bakugo and Tsu. Todoroki and Tokoyami. So on and so forth. Gradually, people started to move around so they could sit closer to their partners for the project. M*neta tried discreetly switching with Kaminari so he could be partners with Hagakure instead of Ojiro, but that wasn’t doing well.

So, as people continued shifting around to sit near their partners, Izuku and Momo did the same, though there was just a little more pep in their step compared to their peers. As Izuku sat down next to Momo, he shot her a sweet smile, one that she could tell was a smile only for her. She smiled back, warmth in her heart, and she suddenly felt a lot more respect for Aizawa, if only for the fact that her desire to spend time with her boyfriend was being fulfilled right now.

Speaking of Aizawa, he cleared his throat and began to speak, “Nezu recommended that I have you start working on a project to coincide with your time in Fundamentals of Heroics. Now, because Hizashi is doing this with his homeroom class, I thought it would be prudent to do the same as him.”

In other words, he stole Present Mic’s idea.

“It’s important to have major things that you want to have as your motivation for being a hero. That one big reason why you decided to go into heroics, to work hard here at U.A. and train,” Aizawa continued, actually deciding to say something the students could find immediate sense in.

Midoriya, of course, had his mind immediately go to that one All Might video where he was carrying people out of a dangerous area with fire in the background. As Midoriya always did.

“However, it’s also important to gain a more complete picture of why you want to be a hero. In other words, to focus on the little things,” Aizawa got to the heart of his point. “That’s what this entire project is going to focus on.”

He clicked a button on the podium, and the projector at the front of the room turned on to show a list of topics, neatly organized in alphabetical order. Then, he opened another tab to show that the pairs had been put in a random wheel.

“We’re going to spin the wheel to choose the order in which you will choose your topic to focus on. The point of these topics is to find something valuable within these little things that you could think about more when it comes to heroics, to things you want to protect,” Aizawa explained, and a few people nodded in response. “I want you to know that, while this project isn’t going to heavily impact your grade, it’ll be a strong opportunity for you to think about being a hero in more ways than the obvious. It’ll be a good chance for you to learn more about the nuances of why people are heroes, and I hope that you use this chance to talk with your peers about the things you find out, not only about yourselves, but also about the things you want to be a hero for.”

A few people clearly seemed excited about some of the things that there were on there. Music. Gardens. Parks. Toys. Things like that.

But, naturally, there was only one thing that either Midoriya or Momo could think about doing as a group project together.

The wheel spun, and they both hoped that they’d come up pretty early. There were more than enough topics for everybody, about 3 topics per pair in the class, so it wasn’t super likely that somebody would take it from them. That said, it wasn’t impossible for it to happen, and knowing Midoriya’s luck, it was entirely possible.

Of course, it was Midoriya’s luck, so there were a few people who went before them. Hagakure and Kaminari ended up choosing technology. Uraraka and Sero decided to go completely out of either of their interests and choose music (of course, to Jirou’s chagrin. Momo was sure that her best friend would most certainly be plotting her revenge against Uraraka and Sero soon).

That said, not even Midoriya’s luck could drag down two people all at once unless it came to anything involving villains or actual danger, so Momo’s relatively normal amounts of luck changed that.

“Yaoyorozu. You and Midoriya are up.”

“Do you have any preference, Iz–Midoriya?” Momo asked, and it was (once again) a miracle that their relationship hadn’t been discovered by the entire planet given how easily she was about to fumble the secrecy through saying his given name.

“No, it’s okay,” Midoriya admitted, giving the reins to her. See, his solution was simple: He couldn’t say her first name by accident if he simply refused to say her name at all in public.

So, as Momo walked up to the front of the room and looked at all the options, there was only one real choice that she could reasonably make.

If she were partnered with anybody else, she would be much more thoughtful in her decision. She would’ve taken into account that person’s interests, her own interests, a balance of that, something that appeals to both of them in a way that’s not so out of either of their leagues yet without obviously being biased towards either her or her partner.

She was not partnered with somebody else.

She was partnered with Izuku.

So, the option was obvious.

“We’ll take ‘Food’ as our project.”
