Work Text:
Ponyboy wrapped his arm around my shoulder, looking at me with a smug expression. His face made my face burn and hands sweat, and I hoped he didn’t notice, even though we’d been dating for a long while.
“Man, Johnny. You’re so red! Do you need to take off your jacket or something, I can hold it or put it on, or-“.Ponyboy rolled down the car windows and gave me a worried look.
“Pony, you know exactly why I’m red, man…”I had to whisper, because Darry was driving us over to the movie theater.
”Come on, Johnny. I ain’t that cute.” Ponyboy looked down at his shoes on the floor of Darry’s car. I gasped dramatically.
”How dare you say that about my boyfriend.” Ponyboy shoved me against the car door. I felt his warm hands against my arms and it sent a shiver up my spine.
”HEY! No roughhousing in the back of my car, kiddos. I’m talking to you, Ponyboy.” He pointed a finger at his mirror.
“Gee, I’m sorry, Darry.” He looked at me and rolled his eyes. He was so cute when he was mean to Darry. Matter of fact, he was so cute when he did anything. I stared into his green-gray eyes and felt an urge to touch his beautiful face. I looked at him a little closer, and realized…
”Pony! You’re wearing my shirt, goddamn it!” I punched his shoulder (lightly, of course), and he blushed.
“Darn it, I thought you wouldn’t notice.” He hit me back, and stared forward. I rolled my eyes and placed my chin in my hands. God, why did this boy have to be so gorgeous. Even in my busted up shirt, he still looked so pretty in it.
Ponyboy slipped his hand into mine. His palm felt like a warm stone against my cold, rough hands. I fought the urge to just melt right then and there, I could wait till we got to that movie theater to kiss this boy senseless.

We walked into the dark movie house and sat and the very back of the room. There was no one in the room watching the movie, and I know Ponyboy didn’t come here to watch this one. It didn’t have Paul Newman in it, and he’d already complained about how bad it was to me.
”Hey Johnny…Were you planning on watching the movie?” Ponyboy clasped his hand around mine, yet again sending a cold tingle up my back.
”Uh…no…? Why?” I stuttered out. Ponyboy gave me a knowing glance and grabbed my face, shoving it against his. His lips touched mine and I ran my hands up through his hair, as my whole body shivered. His lips were soft, and his mouth tasted like Pepsi. We both moved, pushing up against the other’s body, trying to shove each other impossibly closer.
Ponyboy pulled back slightly for air, and ran his hands underneath my shirt. His hands were warm, like a brightly light fire in a cold house.
He went back in, this time his lips traveling up my face. I giggled as he kissed my nose, and I kissed his nose too.
He slid his arm around my shoulder and pulled me closer.

We left the movie house and began to walk home.
The sun started to sink into the grass in front of us. I looked at Ponyboy. He loved sunsets. He sure was pretty like one…
The orange and yellow rays hit his cheekbones just right, making him look like a painting. If only I was good with words like he was, this was poem worthy for sure.
”Whatcha staring at, Cade?” Ponyboy asked in a sarcastic tone, giving me a funny look. My face got hot.
”The sun makes you look real pretty, Pone.” He blushed too. I grabbed his hand and locked it in mine. He brushed the side of my face with his hand, and gently kissed me on the cheek. It made me giggle.
I looked over at him again.
”Makes you look real pretty too, Johnny.” He took a deep breath and pointed at a dusty old car in the lot, the one we always fell asleep holding each other on.
“Can we lay there…just for a little while. I wanna watch the sunset!!” He smiled his big goofy smile and I laughed.
”Of course, Pony.” He pulled my hand twordes the car and sat on it. I laid in his lap as he ran his fingers through my hair.
I could stay like this forever.
