Epilepsy Sucks

Summary:

I had a seizure so I projected onto April.

Notes:

This is based off my experience but it wasn’t my turtle brother who found me (sadly) but my parents. So don’t make it weird, Leo is the medic and her little brother.

Work Text:

April woke up on the floor. Why? She didn’t know. On second glance, it was the floor of Leo’s train car. Leo was there. Why? “Leo?” She croaked. Why did it hurt to speak? This was uncomfortable.

“Oh, thank god, you’re awake.”

“Was I drugged?” Why did it hurt to speak? Why was she on her side?

“No, you had a seizure.” Leo “I was just sitting outside to let you change and thump, down you went. At first I thought it was fine, but then I heard you’re breathing. It sounded like a tiger spitting up a hairball.” She had been changing, hadn’t she? She was prepared to go to a hang out on gays night, changing in Leo's train car because she had decided last minute she didn't want to wear her other shirt and--OH MY WORD SHE WAS TOPLESS. She had been covered by Leo’s blanket, which she was thankful for. Good gosh, what happened? She moved her arms around her top, sitting up despite being wobbly. Leo supported her so she didn’t fall. “The sound was the blood in your mouth, you were breathing through it.” He hesitated, embarrassed. “I covered you, and averted my eyes.” April didn’t respond. Leo handed her some clothes, making sure she was upright before turning away. “Here’s some clothes for you. I thought you’d prefer a comfortable hoodie instead of the crop-top.”

“Thanks.”

“You don’t have to speak, based on the blood in your mouth you must have got your tongue good.” That made sense, it would explain why it hurt to speak. “You need to rest, Apes.” Leo continued. “Gays night’s been cancelled. You almost drowned in your blood.” April tuned him out, feeling her tongue. Yep, it was messed up.

“Was I right?” Leo asked. At April’s nod he let out a sigh of relief. “I’m so glad it isn’t more serious—but it’s gonna hurt to speak or eat for a bit.” April nodded. “Let’s clean it up after you change, I don’t want to leave you alone right now, so I’ll just turn away, is that okay?” April nodded. She changed in silence, relieved her little brother had found her through the embarrassment. After she was changed, Leo helped her out of his train car room and to the medbay, where he helped her rinse out her mouth with mouthwash to stop infections (it hurt so, so bad). She all but collapsed on the medbay bed when she got back. Leo handed her some water with ice and told her to ice her tongue.

“Stay safe.” Leo kissed her forehead. “I don’t want to lose my sister.” And she drifted off to sleep.
