Work Text:
Mikey had said that all ninpo felt different to him, Frida had been confused over this. She could feel the others’, and each of them had a different effect emotionally (how she wished she didn’t feel anything at all). But the way Mikey described it? The different tangible feelings? She didn’t feel that.
She felt her own, though.
It was darker than the others, but she figured that that was obvious. The others looked at her weirdly when the green aura surrounded her. The rush of power that came with it made her feel strong… and dangerous. She could take any object and make it into tekko-kagi, the claws mystic, sharp, and with a greenish tint. When she went in to maul someone, they never let her down.
That was probably one of the reasons the others seemed uncomfortable around her. They tried to spare lives—mostly at least, Donnie was a bit of a wild card—but she just didn’t care. If someone points a weapon at you, they shouldn’t be surprised to have one pointed back. There was a rush coming from the kill, pushing down all guilt and relying on what she learned in the Nexus arena as a child.
Strike first.
Strike fast.
Strike true.
And don’t ever let your opponent figure out your fighting style, or, worse, your weakness.
She and Mikey disagreed on that mentality. Mikey would potentially kill for all of them, but Frida had done so before and would again. For them. For herself. For her mission.
For her “mother”.
They agreed on something, though, and that was arson. Mikey could make fire, but not like Frida. His fire was wild and unpredictable, hers was controlled. It was like a blowtorch coming from her hands, but ten times hotter and stronger than that. It wasn’t all that controlled when she was very emotional though. Her eye markings had gone up in flames a few times, but with the power to make fire, she could put fire out with a flick of her wrist or a twirl of her fingers. Her twin couldn’t do that, much to his frustration.
She just wished she could’ve put the fire out before it had burned her uniform.
Having four brothers, CJ included and Donnie not because they were non-binary, (and apparently there was another one, too?) was a lot, especially since she had gone from an only child to the youngest. She was glad for her sisters. April was kind and crazy, and so was Venus (or Piebald, as she was told to call her. Venus was her legal name). It was scary, especially because they looked at her weird sometimes when she used her ninpo and sometimes when she just existed! Finally, she had had enough.
“Why do you look like that?” Frida snapped. Her eyes, normally the same dark brown as her twin but currently lit up green from just using mystics a second ago, fixed on her eldest brother. Raph looked confused.
“Raph doesn’t understand what you mean?” He said.
“Like I’m a monster! You share looks with the others when I use my ninpo! Or when I do anything!” She responded, whiling to the others. “You all do.”
“Oh.” Mikey said. “If it’s what I think it is, then it’s not bad!”
“What is it, then?” Frida looked at them with her best no-nonsense look.
“It’s just…” Donnie fumbled a bit.
Leo sighed, cutting him off. “You look like, and have the same mystics, down the color, of, well…” He put a hand on her shoulder, his wild, windy ninpo somehow calming her down. “Gram-Gram.” Frida knew only that their Gram-Gram had lived, and their Gram-Gram had died; sacrificing herself. Suddenly, the cold air felt warmer. Her twin’s warm, round, and dancing ninpo reached her as he gave her a side hug, and she could feel Raph’s strong, solid and comforting mystic before he reached her. Donnie’s was sturdy statically as he leaned into her lightly. Leo’s sharp, cold, windy and wild ninpo wrapped tighter around her but didn’t hurt.
Mikey’s was the most comforting. Leo had said it was a twin thing, but Frida hadn’t thought so until now. Maybe. “What does my ninpo feel to you?” She asked, and everyone seemed to know it was Mikey who was being asked.
“Like fire.” Mikey said. “But also like the air after a rainstorm. You are both violent and soft.” He let go of her just to look at her face for a few seconds. “Sharp and smooth, like something drilling into you but not doing any true damage. Hot and cold, like it can’t decide.” He cupped her cheek. “So, so strong. Dark, too.” Frida teared up again, and Mikey went back to hugging her.
“I feel that.” Frida mumbled. And she did. She felt all of them. She really knew what they felt like now, and what comfort they brought her.
She could get used to this.
