Work Text:
“I look stupid, don’t I?” Jason questions, resisting the urge to grab a makeup wipe from Tim’s pouch. It would ruin Tim’s hard work, so Jason really doesn’t want to smudge it.
Even if he does feel shy with two pride flags painted on each of his arms and black eyeliner. Jason really couldn’t explain why, if he were honest. Everyone in the room saw him and knew him for who he was; there was no judgement from anyone in the room but he still felt apprehensive.
"You don't look stupid, Jason," Tim assures him, wrapping his arms around Jason’s middle. He places a chaste kiss on Jason’s cheek and Jason smiles at him.
“And even if you did look stupid, Jayce, it wouldn’t be because of the outfit,” Dick chirps. He’s putting the finishing touches on his own makeup, a beautiful arrangement of pink, blue, and purple adorning his eyelids, and Jason has the biting urge to chirp back at him just to rile him up.
“At least I don’t look like the parade threw up on me,” Jason jokes.
“That’s because this is the first pride parade you’ve ever been to,” Dick replies. “You’ll get here one day. I remember my first pride like it was yesterday--”
“That’s a miracle and a half, given how horrible your memory actually is,” Jason laughs, voice dripping with sarcasm. Dick shoots him a glare, holding his makeup brush tight in his hand, and Jason has half a mind to think that Dick Grayson wanted to stab him with it. He’s preparing himself to dodge out of the way. “What?” Jason continues, “Was it you or me who forgot to pick up Damian at the airport last week? Was it you or me who forgot to buy milk for three days straight? I can tell you one thing; it wasn’t me so that only leaves one other option. ”
And when Jason says that, looking at Dick with a look that dares him to question him, Dick pouts at him.
“Tim, are you gonna let your boyfriend talk to me like that?” Dick retorts. Jason can’t exactly see him from where he’s standing, but he just knows that Dick is pressing his hand against his chest in faux embarrassment. Not that Dick has any leg to stand on. Their apartment walls are very thin. And it didn’t help that Dick and Wally live on the floor directly above them.
There were plenty of times Jason had to bang on his ceiling with the end of a broom.
“You know I’m gonna side with Jason, so I don’t even know why that was a question,” Tim laughs, “Jason, close your eyes for me please?”
Jason obeys, closing his eyes and feeling the soft bristles of Tim’s makeup brush over his eyelids. He’s never worn makeup before, but Jason has a hard time denying Tim when he asks. Today would be the day that it would make sense for him to do so.
There was something about Tim that made all of this less daunting. This is his first time being out and proud, to say the least. He spent most of his adult life hiding, feeling like something was different that he couldn't quite place, and meeting Tim for the first time he figured out pretty quick what it was.
Tim helped him find himself and Jason couldn't help but love him for that.
