Lance’s ‘sick’ day

Summary:

Kieth was achingly, hopelessly, impossibly in love with Lance.

The problem?

Lance had no clue. Not a one. Which was kind of hard to believe considering Kieth sometimes trailed behind Lance like a lovesick puppy. The problem was, because Lance didn’t know, Kieth thought he just wasn’t interested in him. Everyone thought this was fucking mad. So they decided to give them a tiny, microscopic, unfathomably small push in the right direction.

OR: Keith and Lance are pining for each other hard. They just need a little… encouragement*.

*all of this is Coran’s fault

Chapter 1: Prologue

Chapter Text

Lance was gorgeous. He had smooth, caramel toned skin with freckles dusting his cheekbones and the bridge of his nose like powdery snow. His hair reminded people of chocolate merengue, soft brown waves that perfectly framed his eyes. Oh, his eyes. Like some god with no regard for mortals’ sanity plucked two golden pearls from the ocean, and made those Lance’s eyes. But he wasn’t just a pretty boy. He was warm and funny, always there to lighten the mood or cheer the team up. He had the kind of personality that would instantly turn heads. Not to mention he was a killer pilot. He could execute any maneuver, dipping, rolling and turning like a fish in water.

Who wouldn’t fall in love?

Now, it was a well-known fact that Keith was protective over the ones closest to him. A childhood with nothing would do that to you. It wasn’t a bad thing necessarily, just… a wildly persistent thing. Like the time Coran gave Lance a piece of gum with a fake roach on it (Pidge had given it to him and he was very eager to try it out), Keith slapped him across the face and made him go the the Space Mall to find real gum to give to Lance as an apology.

In fact, there’d been many instances where Kieth had quickly stepped in to defend the blue paladin. Maybe it was because Lance had the attention span of an overexcited toddler and the tendency to get lost in crowded spaces. Maybe it was because Lance was as gullible as a five year old and once unknowingly helped an alien kidnap him. Maybe it was just because he was so fucking attractive, and Kieth had gotten sucked into Lance’s orbit just like most people had.

But everyone else had… other theories. Pidge had voiced the idea first. She just knew. Hunk came to the same conclusion when he saw Kieth and Lance eating brownies at three am together. Shiro figured it out because Kieth couldn’t keep secrets from him. Coran and Allura figured out at the same time, when Kieth wouldn’t sleep eat or drink when Lance was in a healing pod. It was blindingly obvious.

Which, everyone (except Coran) would like to state, was entirely Coran’s idea.
