"Log date two-o-four-… two-o-five? No, definitly two-o-four." She took a screwdriver from the nearby desk, inspecting it slightly and testing its weight in her hair-hand. Bow had called her over for a new project and in her hurry she had forgotten to take her own equipment with her. "I am in Brightmoon working with master archer Bow on new equipment."
She moved over to the desk opposite this one, looking over the blueprints they had made so far. Even she had to admit that the first hour they had spend on this project had been quite ineffective, especially with how much they had just 'geeked out', as Bow called, about each other's tech.
"The blue prints look promising so far, after a few more modifications the chances of explosion should reduce to-"
A high pitched squeak came from behind her. "Explosion?! You never mentioned that!" The loudness of Bow's voice made her ears hurt ever so slightly, but they would probably be alright.
"Mentioning such an obvious fact seemed futile to me, so I didn't. I'm assuming you didn't know?" She tilted her head as she lifted her mask. In the past couple of years she had discovered that people like to see your facial expressions when you talk to them.
Bow just sighed as he pinched the bridge of his nose. "No, I didn't. But it's alright, I should've accounted for that." He now stood next to Entrapta, his gaze also scanning over the prints. "If we add a fuse between the processor and the transmitter, the problem should at least be partially solved."
"Right!" She started to move through the lab, searching for the right parts so she could assemble the risky parts of the arrow first, without risking blowing everything else up. "We should also probably change the design to be more aerodynamic."
"You could also say, arrow-dynamic." He did that weird thing with his eyebrows where they moved up and down as he grinned.
For a moment she just blinked at him. "That's what I said." Oh, wait, this was a joke, like the ones he always made with the sparkly princess and Adora. "Oh, yes! Arrow-dynamic!"
Bow just chuckled slightly as he gave her shoulder a pat. "It's alright, I know my jokes are bad. I blame my dads."
In return she patted him on the head with her hair, smiling as she did in the hope it would reassure him. "It was alright, I'm just not that good at jokes. It was probably very amusing!" She stroked her chin as she hummed. "We could probably use the design of the old force captain badges, since they also have a tracking function."
"Hey, that's a good idea! I have access to most designs on my tracker pad, so that shouldn't give us too much trouble." The tracker pad was handed to her, the designs already on screen.
She turned her focus back to the prints, pressing the button of her recorder again, since Emily wasn't there to record them. "The blue prints are ready, I will report back later with results. Unless it blows up in our faces, then that would be less than ideal."
She flipped her mask back down and picked up some of the equipment, sparks flying around them as Bow stared at her in slight fear but also excitement. "Let's do this!" She squealed.
"Okay, so who cares if the first five designs blew up," Bow dragged a clean cloth over his face, trying to get rid of all the grease and ash that covered it. "We shouldn't be discouraged! It probably means that our chances of succeeding are increasing with each attempt! Data never lies."
"Yes! Data never lies!" She pulled up her pad to show Bow the graphics. "Though… the data says our chances are decreasing."
For a moment everything was silent, except for the sound of the machines in the background, as Bow stared at the pad. "Well… okay, that's not great. But! We are the super awesome tech buddy duo and we can do anything!"
"We can't do everything, but we can do this!" The remains of the latest version were splayed out in front of them. "I think I might know what went wrong with the last few versions."
She was already moving at the speed of light with the parts before them, assembling them as Bow tried to stop her. "Wait, can't we talk about it first?! I really don't want another one to explode!"
"Nope!" She said with a smile as she continued to work.
Bow sighed next to her, giving up on trying to stop her. "Just… be careful."
"I'll try!" As a scientist she knew though that risks had to be taken for experiments to succeed. As a scientist she knew that risks had to be taken for new inventions and discoveries to be made, but as a friend she knew that that wouldn't help reassure him.
When the arrow was finished in a matter of minutes, she held it up in front of her. The metal of the tip glistened in the light, as she and Bow both looked at it with excitement and glee.
"And… this one won't explode in our faces?" The master archer asked carefully as he took it into his own hands, testing the weight and durability of it.
"I hope so!"
"You hope so?!"
"Well, you know as well as I do that chances are never zero."
"Okay, fine, yes. I know." He relented as he took his bow in hand, the one they had made together a couple of weeks ago after discovering that most of his bows were for short distances. "Lets try this one out, shall we?"
He placed the tracker arrow on the bow, drawing it back with caution, taking a final deep breath, before aiming it at the target and letting go. They both watched as the arrow flew through the air, shedding parts as it went until only a small device was left, before finally the tracker part stuck to the target. A beep came from Bow's tracker pad, a cartoonish version of him appearing on the screen with a thumbs up. It worked. The arrow worked!
The both of them squealed, Entrapta picking up her friend with her hair in her excitement and hugging him. "Too- tight- No, air…" Bow crooked out, though the wide smile on his face didn't waver for even a second. She loosened her grip on her friend as she gently lowered him to the ground, embracing her again the second he was back on his feet.
"Super awesome tech buddy duo!" He squealed again as he pulled her tighter.
Usually she didn't really like feeling constricted in any kind of way, it always made her feel trapped. But hugs like these, being close to her friends, that she didn't mind. It was always nice to help people with tech to make herself feel useful, hopefully getting them to like her that way. Being close to them like this though? It made her feel like none of that was necessary, like she was also enough even if she wasn't that useful.
It felt nice.
"Yeah, super awesome tech buddy duo…" She whispered back.
