Summary:

Jessie has survived abandonment before.

She knows what it feels like to watch the child you love slowly outgrow you, hoping every day that tomorrow will be different.

Chapter Text

The first thing I ever saw were colors. I awoke beneath the flickering lights of the Christmas tree.

But the first thing that I ever saw that actually mattered came right after, as a couple of little hands lovingly took hold of me.

Her eyes were green, her hair was red and her smile was out of this world.

Nothin' has had that kind of impact on my entire bein' ever since, as this little girl looked at me as if I was the entire world. Which felt pretty silly to me, since it was clearly the other way around.

Since my first breath, I knew I was a doll. But... When Emily set her pretty eyes on me, something within me became alive. Real. 'Cause there was no way that the overwhelming love that consumed my every sense wasn't real.

We were the best of pals from that moment onward, simple as that.

We'd be together day and night. Emily would share with me every dream, every fear, and every secret. And, in return, I was always there to listen.

Emily's happiness was my own, and so was her sorrow. Her smile became the very thing I lived for.

And Lord, wasn't it so much fun! Those few years we had were nothin' short of pure bliss.

So why... Oh, why did they have to end? I would still wonder for years and years to come.
