Work Text:
Sparkling like gems
drawing my eyes off the road for only a moment.
I watch as the stems
growing in the cracks in the concrete race by in the car I was lent.
You’re in the passenger seat,
not even looking at the road.
I glance over, and our eyes meet.
The blue light from your phone lighting your face up, I swore you glowed
like those fireflies outside
on the windshield, the light from their bodies slowly fading.
One more dying glance to you at my side,
before evading
you oncemore. This was going to be a long drive,
but I couldn’t bring myself to mind, not with you by my side—alive.
