   Summary

   A few months before Ilya's ninth birthday, Grigori is killed in the line of duty as a police officer. Irina remarries and gets help for her depression. Ilya experiences a softer life: one where he still goes through the loss of a parent, the fear of homophobic Russian law, and a secret relationship with his rival, but with a loving mother by his side making sure he gets the support he needs.
