Being Chill

Summary:

Michael has learned that you run into Wallace when you least expect it.

Notes:

July Break Bingo | Prompt: Location: Beach House

I kinda want to write something a bit more in-depth about my headcanon for Wallace, and specifically grown-up Wallace. Because in my headcanon this man is an absolute disaster, and he loves being a disaster. He is a self-declared professional adventurer and photographer, and has a habit of getting into problems, but finding creative ways to get back out of them too.

Work Text:

You need a job, man,” Michael muttered, as he looked over to the other young man.

I do have a job,” Wallace countered.

You let yourself get washed up at places and then shoot photos of those places.”

Which people pay money for,” Wallace said. “Hence a job.”

We lived with this one lady in Colombia for three months, because we were out of money and you had lost your passport.” Lopmon was lying on the floor in front of the ventilator.

The house was a fancy one. But it had not been used in more than a year, so nobody had noticed that the AC was broken. And the heat wave had hit Florida rather badly this week.

Michael shook his head, before pouring some of the gin into the cocktail shaker.

It had been more of a coincidence than anything that he had come across Wallace once again. Though Wallace was one of those people. The kind that you just came across from time to time. The fact that the guy had spent the last four years or so drifting around probably was a part of that. You would come across him in the most impossible places.

You will get into trouble, Wallace,” Terriermon said.

The guy chuckled. “Oh, I am betting on it.”

No, I mean, real trouble!”

Being stuck in Colombia is not trouble?” Lopmon asked.

Their brother looked at them. “No. We did not go to prison.”

I am pretty sure if I get into prison somewhere, I am gonna get out again.” He shot Michael a smile. “I know the son of a famous actor after all.”

This only made Michael sigh again. “Leave me out of this.”

Hmm, or maybe I ask Daisuke or… wait, Taichi is also now living in the US, right? He is with the UN!”

You are not really trying to bet on someone getting you out of any prison?” Michael asked.

Ah, I think that would be an adventure, right?”

He does never take anything serious,” Lopmon complained.

Yeah, I would have noticed that…” Michael poured his drink into the glass he had gotten out. It was simple Gimbet.

He leaned against the bar, sipping the cold drink.

I am thinking of it like this,” Wallace countered, “for everyone who takes the world too serious there needs to be someone like me who is just chill.”

I am not sure if that is how this…”

I think any sense is lost on him,” Betamon muttered.

You know what wouldn’t be lost on me?” Wallace noted.

Michael just raised an eyebrow.

You could make me a cocktail, too.”

I am not sure I am willing to take that risk…”

Stop being mean. I can handle my booze!”

Admittedly he can indeed handle his booze,” Lopmon muttered.

Michael sighed, and took another sip of his drink.

He had decided to get here for a couple of days while uni was off. And then he had run into Wallace at the airport by poor coincidence. Or maybe because God had wanted to send him a test or something. His grandma would probably say that.

Still, he went back around the bar. “What kinda drink do you want?”

Hmm.” Wallace thought about it for a moment. Before starting to hum the melody of the Pina Collada song.

At least that much Michael understood. He got the ingredients out, making Wallace chuckle.

You are a menace,” Michael said.

Oh come. So far I never killed anyone,” the other man replied.

Not yet,” Terriermon grumbled.

I am more worried about the opposite,” Lopmon added.

The two Digimon looked at other and gave a synchronous long sigh, while Michael just chuckled. He poured the coconut cream, pineapple juice and rum into the shaker. “You really should look for a proper job, though.”

Wallace was rummaging in his backpack, and finally got out his camera. He weighted it in his hand, before lifting it. “I think this is a job, still. I does make money.”

Only if you are lucky.”

The camera clicked as Wallace held it up. “Your dad couldn’t get me a job with his folks, could he?”

Michael was shaking the cocktail, noticing quite well that Wallace had photographed him right now. He considered protesting, but in the end, it was probably not worth it.

He shrugged. “I can ask. But… Dad is on a set right now. I probably won’t reach him before the weekend.” He put the shaker down, pouring the content into another glass.

Fine by me. We can just hang till then, right?”

And Michael did not protest. He brought the glass over. “I guess.”

Wallace smirked. “You’re the best.”

Only for the moment,” Michael said. He sat down.

I will take that.”

Just… don’t get into more trouble.”
