Candlelight

Summary:

Dinner together after the season ends.

Work Text:

Leon knew the season didn’t end how Connor wanted and he was feeling very stressed and upset. He wanted to do something nice for his boyfriend, hopefully to make him feel better. Leon planned everything out over a couple of days and waited until Connor was out all day for meetings to set everything up. He wasn’t going to be back until later in the evening, so Leon had all day to plan. After walking the dogs in the morning he got to work, wanting to make sure everything was perfect. While the steak was cooking on the grill Leon got the outdoor table ready. There are already string light around the cover of the patio but Leon wanted this to feel extra special. He found a couple candles (that he’s sure Kim gave them when they bought the house) that he set up on the table with the intention to light them when Connor got home.

Leon had everything just about perfect; the table was set, the food was almost ready, and according to Life360 Connor was almost home. Leon was fidgeting with the napkins, wondering if the light blue he picked were okay or if the dark brown would have been better. The back patio door was shut with both Bowie and Lenny standing inside the house, pawing and whining at the door wanting to join Leon outside. Leon was choosing to ignore them, knowing if he looked at them he cave and let them outside. Leon decided outside was good enough and made his way back inside to wait for Connor. The dogs knew he was home before Leon did, both running to the door barking when the car pulled into the garage. Leon stayed in the kitchen hearing the door open and close before Connor’s voice carried through the house.

“Hello boys, where’s Leo, huh where he is?” Leon smiled to himself, hearing the scraping of nails on the hardwood floor. When he looked up Connor was standing in the doorway with both dogs sitting at his feet.

“Welcome home.”

“What are you up to?” Connor asked, crossing the room to stand beside Leon.

“I know this season didn’t go how you wanted so I thought I’d prepare a nice meal for you. It’s just about ready do if you want to head out to the patio, the table is all set and I’ll bring our plates out.”

“You didn’t have to do all that.” Connor leaned against Leon, arm around the other man’s waist.

“I wanted to, you deserve this and more.”

“You’re too much, this is too much.”

“Go sit, I‘ll bring the food out in just a few minutes.” Leon pressed a kiss to Connor’s cheek before pushing him in the direction of the patio. Connor was in awe of the patio; the candles around the table, their nice cutlery (and presumably plates) there as well, two wine glasses and one of their nice bottles on wine waiting on the table, even some flowers in a small vase in the middle. Bowie and Lenny laid on the ground under the table. Connor didn’t have to wait long for Leon to come out carrying two plates of food. He sat them down and sat in the chair across from Connor. Connor figured he could help so he grabbed the bottle of wine and wine opener, popping it open and pouring them both a glass.

“I can’t believe you did all this for me.” Connor reached out, grabbing Leon’s hand that was resting on the table.

“You deserve it. You fought through everything this year, and deserve something nice. Just us and the dogs, and some food.” Leon locked their ankles together under the table.

“I love you.” Connor said, squeezing Leon’s hand.

“I love you.” Leon replied, smiling at the other man. Even if the season wasn’t what either of them wanted, this still had each other and that’s what mattered at this moment.
