"The stars look gorgeous tonight..." Blue started, trying to sound casual mid-sentence as he felt his tone get too romantic for his liking, especially if it wasn't with his girlfriend.
Red held Blue by the waist, pulling him closer to him, with Blue almost leaning on his shoulder, with Red running his fingers lightly through the sides of Blue's hair. The redhead had always had an affinity for basking underneath the stars, taking in their glow, which he'd inherited from. However, it was like he was observing only from the outside.
Red had the stars gleaming in his eyes as he turned to look back at Blue. "You know, I kinda wanna take you there someday."
He turned his face back to the stars. "If only I knew my way around."
Blue's eyes widened as he saw a bright light flying among the stars in the night sky. "Hey look! A shooting star! Wanna make a wish?"
Red pondered.
That very light would flash in his eyes time and time again.
One dark December, the sun had ripped a chunk of itself off from its main body, framing itself as an exotic sight for all of humanity to see. However, unlike any other solar flare, it flew across a vast, deep blackness for years, undetected, until it came across the world's night sky one night just a few years after, which took the world by surprise.
It was like the stars had carved out that warm, coarse body with their leftovers; making his gorgeous, radiant face & figure that put the other homo sapiens to shame. They even filled his innards with their fire, making him a child of the bright and beautiful among the night sky. But somewhere along the way, they forgot to give him the thinking and the spirit of a human.
That meant, no matter how many people would gather around just to get a taste of him, that achingly empty, hollow feeling would ruminate through his being for the rest of his life.
Red just wouldn't process feelings the same way other people did, in a way that sometimes if somebody would achieve success, such as getting a medal, he could at times feel indifferent, or act as though the person was trying to one-up him, or beat him down. Even he himself could never know what he does and thinks.
He'd keep that part mostly to himself, as humanity would have him by the throat if it were to ever show, calling it "selfish", "inconsiderate", "egotistical", or some other fourth thing, and that would break people's illusion of his irresistible light and radiance. Albeit, he'd already always had the idea that almost everyone was out to get him simply for an existence which he'd never asked for.
This would lead the redhead to very often think at times that he doesn't have feelings, nor is capable of feeling those warmer, sweeter, lighter emotions, despite overwhelming evidence that, around Blue, he has intense instances of just that.
Questions like these would mess with his mind so much, that even some nights, his whole body would go numb at the thought. Maybe the stars were still within his being, so they could tell him something; perhaps they did, and he was just a fool for not reading between the lines.
Why would he just come into existence all of a sudden?
Most people got to know their ancestry. Their heritage, culture, history, their parents, grandparents, great-grandparents, great-great grandparents, and so on. So why couldn't Red?
Earth's atmosphere tied his heart in a little ignorant string, straining him to only his most casual, unimportant memories; degrading and abusing his being where it could never think truly of a time before he fell to Earth. Either way, Red would develop a sort of foggy, false nostalgia and longing for a time that likely didn't even exist.
Was he destined to never be psychologically connected with any other real being? Or anyone that could truly see through him? Maybe the light of his persona would blind them too much to the point where they wouldn't ever bother going deeper.
Perhaps it was as a punishment.
The redhead was always a wild child; always pursuing new experiences which were out of reach for a normal human being. It riled him up with ecstacy, and he enjoyed every second of it. Was he destined to never be psychologically connected with any other real being? Or anyone that could truly see through him? Perhaps, the light of his persona would blind them too much to the point where they wouldn't ever bother going deeper.
So possibly, the stars banished him out of their realm, because he'd presented himself in a way that they didn't like, or rather, they couldn't comprehend another star burning brighter than them all combined, despite being birthed from one, and such ugly jealousy managed to make Red internally pay a consequence by birthright, just for living.
"If not human, then...what am I? WHAT AM I.?!.." the redhead raised his voice, his vocals cracking as he'd almost seen himself shed a tear. The fiery, charismatic persona he'd been putting up the entire day had just torn apart in a matter of seconds, his eyes had lost their sparkle, and only had nothing but desperation and longing. Longing just to know his purpose in the big, vast universe.
Red's body was already tense from almost properly tearing up, each drop glistening in the starlight, as though they were well aware of his turmoil, but simply didn't care.
"I want to be a person...just somebody...for someone..."
Although most had sung praises, raising their voices "loud" and "clear", enjoying the light he'd bring them, just to touch it coarsely only for a second or two before going off to look for some shade as they'd deem that it was "too much" for them to handle, and it would laugh in his face for being so gullible for thinking that they'd stay for longer.
However, Red turned his head to the side towards Blue, and saw someone different. Someone willing to bask in his light; not in a careless way, but in a way in which he wanted to preserve him and treat him with the love to fix the warped feeling within him, which Red would often call it of the same name, although wrongly so.
His wild, unseen heart had started pulsing the moment he'd locked eyes with the raven head, whose face seemed to gaze blankly, yet with his ocean eyes so observant and willing to take in everything the redhead had to say. That, paired with Blue's pale blush that would follow soon after, made Red's chest aggressively tender and his blood turn to plasma.
He thought that there was a lot of things that he could wish for. Maybe to remember what was, maybe to be loved in the way that he loved Blue. Maybe everything at the same time all at once. But then again, he'd be framed as greedy for not really knowing about knowing what he wants.
And so;
Maybe the rage, the fire, the hunger, the lust was all just because he'd wanted to find solace in somebody else, despite the fact that they will never be of his kind.
And still, a human heart lay calmly yet imperfectly by Red's side, smiling and just seeing the stars for what they were. And maybe Red would've wanted it that way. Out of anything and everything, he'd never wanted to burden Blue with his own scattered sense of belonging as an unworldly being, and maybe it was better for Blue to just remain oblivious to the former's struggles.
Red smiled a small smile, thinking about how sweet Blue looked when he lied down underneath their nearly pitch-black sky, and how he wanted to simply hold him close and take him in his arms, keep Blue in his embrace, like a real lover would.
But then again, it wouldn't actually matter anytime in the short-term future if a man of the stars and a man of the Earth were to go heart to heart every once in a lifetime.
Red placed a kiss onto Blue's forehead, and then onto his lips, as the latter cracked a smile while he was almost about to doze off into Red's arms under the now almost blinding starlight.
