    Freya Mikaelson was supposed to die the night her husband did.
    She chose differently. The spell she cast was untested and half-remembered, and Dahlia got her hands on it before it could finish, which is how Freya ends up bleeding in the dark in a century she doesn't recognize, holding a son who wasn't supposed to be born for three more months, in a world that has never heard her name.
    Dahlia believes she's dead. Her siblings don't know she exists. The vampire who finds her has no particular reason to help her, and she has no particular reason to trust him. None of that stops either of them.
    She has to find her family without leading Dahlia to them, keep her son alive long enough to reach them, and figure out how to exist in a world five hundred years ahead of everything she knows. She's done harder things.
    She just can't remember when.
