Work Text:
“How many more boxes do you need?” Tim asks. “Two? Three?” He thought he did a pretty good job of getting the boxes. He thought he got enough but apparently not and now they were on their way to get more boxes and to start packing up her stuff.
(They decided that they wanted her to move in as soon as possible.)
“More like five to ten.” Lucy says casually. Tim stares at her, and she laughs a little. “What? I have accumulated stuff over the years.”
“I’ll say.” He mutters. He’s not sure how this is going to go, or how long it will take but it doesn’t really matter because they were doing this together.
This was the next step in their relationship and that’s all that really matters.
“You are the one that bought the boxes before I said yes.” She says.
“To be fair, I asked and you fell asleep.” Tim points out. And he really did think this was going to happen sooner but of course things didn’t always happen the way he planned out.
And that was okay.
“You didn’t call me for three days.” Lucy says. “How was I suppose to know?” Tim shakes his head as he pulls into the parking lot. He parks and then turns to look at Lucy. Maybe things didn’t go according to plan with their relationship. Maybe they would be in a different place if they hadn’t broken up but—
They were here now.
He was making things right.
This was exactly where he was meant to be.
“I’m sorry,” he says. “I didn’t—” Lucy leans across the console and gives him a kiss.
“It’s okay.” She says. “We are here now.” He nods and opens the door. Lucy climbs out too and meets him in front of the truck.
They were here now, exactly where they were supposed to be.

“I can’t believe you have so much stuff,” Celina comments as Lucy puts things in the boxes next to her. “I also can’t believe Tim already had boxes and you hadn’t even said yes.” Lucy laughs and looks towards the kitchen where Tim is packing up her things. After they bought more boxes, they decided to get started on packing.
Celina told her it was no rush, but Lucy felt this overwhelming feeling of just wanting to start this next chapter with Tim.
Plus packing and moving was a pain the ass so she thought they might as well get started.
“He likes to think ahead,” Lucy says. “He didn’t get enough boxes though.”
“I heard that.” Tim calls from the kitchen. Lucy flashes a grin at Celina, and then continues to put stuff in the boxes. “I was making an educated guess.”
“I figured Miles would want to get away from Smitty as soon as possible.” She says. “And I’m not staying here.” She shrugs her shoulders, and Celina nods. It was a little bittersweet packing up the apartment. This place was full of memories—good and bad. This is where she lived with Jackson, and where she came home to it empty after he died. This where she lived with Tamara and then Celina. It’s where she came home after Tim broke up with her and she felt like everything was crumbling around her. But it was also the place she had her first kiss with Tim (practice or not). And where Tim backed her into her bedroom, and she knew she was in it for the long haul with him.
She knows it’s just a place and really she was over the moon about living with Tim but—.
She looks out at Tim, who is now on the phone. Ever since Grey called him about the Watch Commander job and he accepted. He had been getting calls from the brass nonstop. He hadn’t even officially started but apparently he was always on call.
“Yes sir.” Tim says. He hangs up and turns to look at Lucy, a determined look on his face. “Did you get everything packed?” He asks.
“Pretty much.” She says and then she turns to Celina. “I’ll be back in the morning for the movers.”
“Of course.” Celina says. “It’s no problem. You both have a big day tomorrow huh?” Tim and Lucy exchange a look. They would both be starting their new positions tomorrow. Tim as Watch commander (officially) and Lucy as the new roving supervisor.
“Yep.” Lucy says and she walks over to Tim. He immediately reaches out and pulls her into his side and she loves him for it.
She loves being this close to him, she loves that they are going to be starting a new chapter…together.
She loves that he was so determined to get better not just for her but for himself too. He fought for them and he waited for her.
She loves that this is their new beginning, no matter how hard it might be at times.
“You both will do great.” Celina says. Lucy gives her a smile, and reaches down to take Tim’s hand.
They would be doing this together and that’s all that really matters.

“Are you nervous?” Lucy asks Tim as they get ready for work the next morning. She’s going to be stopping by the apartment before she goes to work but Tim was going right to work. It was his first day as Watch Commander and he was determined to do it right.
“About?” Tim asks. He is a little nervous, he has filled in for Grey as watch commander and it consisted of him just sitting at the desk but this was the real deal.
“Your first day as Watch Commander.” Lucy says. “I mean it’s a pretty big promotion.”
“Not really.” Tim says although he’s sure that Lucy can see through that. She always could tell when he was lying, even from the very beginning. “Are you nervous about being roving supervisor?”
“No.” Lucy says. She looks over at him. “I’m just thankful I’m off the night shift.”
“Me too.” Tim says because he barely got to see her when she was on the night shift. It drove him crazy even if they weren’t back together yet. Now that they were back together and living together… he thinks he would lose his damn mind even more.
“Yeah?”
“It was weird going to work and not seeing you.” Tim says. “And then seeing you as I was getting off work…I didn’t like it.”
“I didn’t like sleeping during the day, and then not actually sleeping because it was so loud.” Tim hums softly and comes to stand behind her. She leans back into him and tilts her head to look up at him.
“How long were you planning to ask me to move in?” She asks. Tim shrugs, he honestly hadn’t thought of it. He just knew he wanted Lucy back in his life and his bed. He just knew that he would have waited for her as long as it took for her to come around.
“I was just determined to make it right.” He says. “I meant what I said Lucy, I want you all the way in my life.”
“Well you got me.” She says turning around and looking at him.
“Yeah?” He asks and he can’t believe it. It’s been a few days, they have talked some more about everything. But it still amazes him that she is here, she said yes and every time he thinks about it he can’t help but smile. “This is where you want to be?”
“I am exactly where I want to be.” She confirms. She pulls him down for a kiss and it’s like a little more of their puzzle falls into place. He is exactly where he wants to be too, he wants this and Lucy now and for the rest of his life.
“Me too.” Tim says. “We are going to do this together.” Lucy nods and he kiss her again.
“Together.” She agrees. Tim studies her for a few seconds.
“You know you are going to do great as a roving supervisor.” He says. “I believe in you.” Lucy flashes him a smile and he feels like this is the start of the rest of their lives together.
And he has a feeling it was going to be so, so good.
