Work Text:
In the middle of a hospital clinic the nurse Tommy ruffles his hair as he flicks through a pile of patient papers, he needs to file them soon, but for now he just was making sure nothing was missing. Tommy yawns and stretches, it was in the early hours of the morning and he was almost done with his shift for the day. He was so ready to go back to the apartment he lived in with the head doctor, Ponk.
Unfortunately right now it was prime time for fights or something being planned by the syndicate, the most powerful villain group in the country, theorized to be located underground on the opposite side of Esempi from where the Hero Tower is set up. That means that injuries could occur.
Thankfully it seems like it has been a decently calm night, no one has come in asking for assistance, nobody is actively dying or needs healing. The only things he’s had to deal with so far is a vigilante who got a little too cocky and tripped up building-hopping, he was fine and was on his way within 30 minutes after limping in.
Tommy has mainly been fixing up around the clinic, organizing files here, cataloging medical supplies there, the basics.
Tommy felt himself begin to nod-off from the sheer boredom.
—
Outside, down the street from the clinic, in the middle of the road a fight was ending between the Top 3 Villain Siren and Top Hero Dream. Dream, clad in his lime green suit and white smiling mask, was attempting to subdue whatever plans Siren had and Siren purposefully riling him up in turn, as all good villains do.
This battle had been going down for hours at this point, both had been drained of their abilities and strengths. Siren’s voice was so worn he couldn’t manage a single command if he tried, and Dream’s strength was exhausted and he felt worn from the fight.
Right now they were just low-powered enemies who were tumbling down the street at each other's throats, Dream with his sword of his shadows and Siren with his baton he could expertly fight with. They were both weak and tired, but each had their duty to their teams to continue.
As they went on all of a sudden, Siren got hit through a window as Dream reaches for his final bit of strength he is able to manage and flings Siren away.
He hits the floor and coughs out “Dream! I know you're homeless, but you are a hero, you ought to not break into people's places.” Siren makes his way shakily to his feet before running his hands through his mop of curly brown hair and glaring at his foe through his dark blue masquerade mask. He notices a sharp pain and a trickle of blood from where he must’ve gotten hurt by the glass after that green guy launched him through a literal window.
Dream lifts his sword and makes his way through the shattered window before hearing a voice that makes him pause.
“Hey! Quit fighting, don’t you know this is a non-fighting area? Also will someone just use the door for once?” They stop for a minute, turning to where they see a teenager with blonde hair and red scrubs glaring at them from where he is leaning up on the front desk of whatever business they just crashed into. He had dark-circles under his eyes and looked like he had just woken up. Maybe a clinic by the smell of antiseptic clouding the air and the hum of fluorescent lights.
His nametag appears to read:
‘Junior Nurse: Big Man Tommy Innit’
Tommy continues ignoring the flabbergasted expression on Dream’s face and the mildly interested one on Sirens, “Now I’m gonna need you to stop, you are both injured and need to take a seat in the waiting area.” Under his breath he muttered, “Prime we really have to get shatterproof windows at this rate.”
“Do you know who we are, kid?” Siren questions. “Not a kid arsehole, I’m 17 and probably are more medically competent than you so again I need you to sit down. Also yeah of course I know who you are, Siren and Dream.” Tommy looks towards each of them as he says their name.
Siren leans lazily against the wall in response.
It is honestly ludicrous for someone to not recognize either of them, but it was somehow reasonable when Tommy didn’t start either shaking in his boots from seeing Siren: The Controller known for his powers of will and the ability to control the mind with sharp tongue or Dream, Top Hero with a rare double power of both light shadows and enhanced speed.
Is this kid just so tired after his shift that he doesn’t care or is he used to getting company like themselves?
Dream cautiously feels out a conversation with the obviously annoyed teen after sitting down on one of the waiting room chairs, “So… What is this place?”
Well if he’s being honest it is a not-so-secret clinic set in the middle of Esempi, the top hero city in the country. Here you’re likely to be a witness to a massive fight between Whirlpool and Thunderstruck versus 404 and Heatflame while going down the street to the grocery or have The Blade, one of the Syndicate Leaders, land on your train's roof while taking a morning commute to work. The clinic usually only saw vigilantes, rogues, and civilians, but there were the occasional hero or villain who stopped by. It wasn’t very widely known though because whoever got healing at least had enough respect afterward for Tommy or his supervisor Ponk to not put a target on their backs. Unfortunately that also meant he’s explained what his workplace was so many times that he was frankly exhausted to do it again.
That’s what his clinic is, but for Tommy it was his home away from home. His place of refuge after being taken in after Ponk started training him as an assistant. He loved the clinic, being there, helping people, and being allowed to mind his own business in work as a teenager who at one point just needed a place to stay after one-to-many foster homes had gone wrong. The clinic saved him and in return he promised to pay it back by learning and helping others.
He snaps out of his thoughts and glares back in response.
“It’s a clinic dickhead. Obviously. I don’t give a shit about whether you are a hero, vigilante, civilians, even a villain. Whatever you are, I am just here to help people and heal those who are hurt, which you both are by the way. Also Siren will you just sit the fuck down before you hurt yourself more than he already likely did.”
Siren gives him a winning smile and takes a seat down from Dream still holding onto his arm, putting pressure on where it was cut by the glass.
Tommy turns to one of the supply cabinets in the room and starts grabbing basic medical equipment. A bottle of rubbing alcohol from here, a box of large band-aids from there, a roll of white gauze to help Siren’s arm from the glass, and 2 icepacks for the bruises they have along their bodies from beating the crap out of each other.
As Dream and Siren are left no longer under direct supervision they start talking.
“You know you didn’t have to fling me through a whole window you know?”
“Well you didn’t have to keep being an annoying bastard who kept trying to rile me up even before we started fighting.”
“Oh you know it’s just part of my charm.”
“You are an insufferable–”
Dream gets cut off by Tommy coming back over to them. He scans both for what their main injuries are.
Tommy moves over to Sirens side, “ok you two aren’t going to die anytime soon from your injuries, but we want to avoid any infections.” He takes the rubbing alcohol and sprays him on the arm where his injury is after Tommy instructs him to move his hand away and checks for any shards of glass, finding none thankfully.
Siren wines out, “Ow! That hurt! Are you even qualified to be doing this? You're literally 17.”
All he gets is a blank look of disinterest and a yawn. Obviously Tommy wouldn’t be working a clinic at 3 am with no experience.
Dream eyes the scene amusedly, “Aren’t you literally a villain. Imagine being taken down by antiseptic.”
Siren glares daggers towards Dream and opens his mouth to retort when he gets cut off by Tommy clearing his throat and saying, “Man just stay still would you. You really wouldn’t want me to wrap this wrong. Tommy has the gauze in his hand and moves towards Sirens arm to wrap it tightly around.
“Whatever.”
After Siren's injury has been wrapped and he is handed an ice pack for the bruises on his face from the punches he took from Dream, Tommy shifts over to the hero.
“Honestly you are fine for the most part, but I want to check your fists and it looks like there’s a cut on your face. Punching someone or something is a great way to get a hand injury.”
Dream smiles at him in thanks, “It is really no problem, you don’t have to do anything. I’m just really sorry about your window, it wasn’t my intention to send this guy,” he points his thumb at Siren,”Through it.”
“It’s no skin off my back and I’ll figure it out. It’s whatever.” Tommy honestly just doesn’t have the energy to talk to someone like Dream at this moment, even if he’s trying to help.
He grabs Dream's hands and checks them over. It appears that nothing seems broken, he would be in a significant amount of pain, and he just has bruises along the knuckles.
In response he hands Dream the other ice pack and tells him to avoid over training tomorrow to avoid splitting them open or damaging the skin even more.
For the cut on his jaw, Tommy sprays some alcohol onto the cut and cleans it and slaps a blue Paw Patrol Sticker on top before going back over to his desk to begin filling out some paperwork for what their injuries were so he has supply usage on record.
Siren and Dream just look at each other. Not entirely sure of how to continue. Thankfully, their thoughts are interrupted by Tommy calling out, “you can stay until my shift is over or you can go back home, but I am supposed to advise you to avoid getting hurt.”
Dream and Siren make their way over to the counter, Siren putting his hand under his chin staring at the work Tommy is annoyedly doing before he drops a business card on the front desk of the clinic.
Tommy eyes it warily for a few seconds, looking up from his work.
“I like your clinic. If you ever need any… assistance just call this number,” Siren winks at him before Dream hits him over the shoulder on his uninjured arm.
“Ay! You’re literally a top 3 villain! It is my job to subdue and arrest you so I cannot let you do this Siren.” In response Siren just rolls his eyes and walks out with an annoyed Dream staying behind. He turns to Tommy who looks exhausted “If you ever need anything, the Hero Tower is-”
“I’m going to stop you right there, I’m not going to get between whatever bitchfight is going on. I’m here to heal people, not get put in a tug of war between two people I could not have less interest in. If you need healing come here, not because you are fighting.”
With this Tommy turns and heads to the counter of the clinic to rifle through supply checking, back in work-mode, like he had ever left it in the first place.
Dream steps outside next to where he sees that Siren has a phone out where he appears to be typing away, likely talking to another villain. “That was something… You want to finish up what we were doing?” Dream says, far too awkward for a top ten hero. “Nah I think I have to go talk to Angel and Blade about that kid,” Siren responds distractedly before giving Dream another wink and a salute before turning and leaving, already planning on what he was going to say to the rest of the syndicate about the experience.
“Hey! Hey I can’t let you!- Whatever.” Dream moves in the opposite direction back towards the hero tower.
He can’t wait to tell George and Sapnap about what just happened.
