stand with me apart from all the others
knowing well you could join in their laughter
but instead you stay by my side smiling
watching coloured lights bloom over the sky
red and green and blue and orange and pink
painting your face in all the best lights but
i think you are watching me instead and
i want to tell you your yellow raincoat
is my favourite shade. you turn to me
and it makes me brave enough to take your
face in my hands and kiss you like i have
wanted to since that one fatal moment
when i caught you off guard, pulled you into
orbit ‘round me. now you’re my favourite
satellite and i look up at you, your
curious eyes always searching my face
wondering if you’ll ever know me the way
i wholeheartedly know you – and i think
when you’re kissing me beneath the fireworks
i'd let you in past all these walls i built,
wanting you more than i'm scared of how you
might rip me wide open loving me the
way you do, heart on your sleeve, lights in the
sky. and i think we could stay right here right
now and it will all be alright if i
can have this one thing without a cost, god
willing this first step will lead us down a
kinder road than the one that brought us here.
