Summary
When pushed back into the kiss and brought a hand up to hold her cheek, she took that as the best forgiveness she’d get. She pushed Ryland against the door, deepening the kiss and moving another hand to card into and hold his hair. Their bodies pressed together as Eva snaked her tongue into Ryland’s mouth, which he took gratefully.
Eva didn’t know why she was doing this. She wasn’t used to not knowing things. She tried to justify it in her mind. Maybe it was giving him a last bit of intimacy on Earth before sending him off to die in space. Maybe it was stress relief to help herself think better moving forward. Or maybe she was going to miss him. Maybe she knew she’d never see him again and that thought terrified her. The first person she’d connected with in who knows how long, and she has to send him off to die.
It’s not fair.
But neither was she, so who was she to complain.
OR
Stratt longs for closeness with Grace and takes the opportunity to get it just before she sends him to die.

Ryland gets sick from the stress of preparing for Project Hail Mary. Also I think he's asexual but just for the vibes we're gonna do him and Eva Stratt. As with most of my fics, I feel pretty good about the beginning but then didn't really know how to end it so this has been sitting in my drafts for weeks on end and I did not really proofread the last maybe a thousand words but here it is finally!!!!!!!!

That is a lot of words, and Grace is pointedly half-asleep. They trickle over him in lazy streams of thought as he sips his coffee, through his early, “it-is-maybe-morning” fog…

“Are you calling me your pet?”
