Falling in The Mornings

Summary:

Unable to tell you that he likes you, Maekar imagines what it would be like to date you in his palace............

Work Text:

Maekar gets up out of bed. Sometimes he's alone, sometimes a lady friend is with him.

But every time he swings his legs out of bed and wriggles his toes. He stares at the traditional wallpaper. It gets changed regularly but it's always the same design. Targ black and red. Every morning he stares at it and wonders if you'd like it. Do you like bright coloured wallpaper with a theme? Would you have abstract beach pictures on the wall or photos of your family or  friends? As The Prince plods on a cashmere rug, he asks himself if you like carpet or Laminated floors? Would you ask staff to clean your room, or would you do it yourself?

He brushes his teeth. Imagining you next to him. Maekar imagines you in lingerie. A classy floral print bikini set revealing your stomach. The bikini a mix of white and Pink. It neatly covers your chest, opaque, and is adorned with elastic straps. Straps that he plays with, until you playfully push him away. Your underwear is marked with a ruffle trim. The Prince traces his fingers lightly against the fat ripples of your thighs. You chuckle as he pecks at your neck. In his fantasy you're not shy about your curves. You change in front of him all the time.

The bright lights prod at your delicate black skin as you wipe at your pores in the mirror. As you both change, you ramble about upcoming lessons you have. As a Princess, you don't have a job per se, you're learning the ropes of Targ history. How to reside over dragon eggs. Learning languages and going to etiquette classes. You have palace staff. Kitchen staff, stable staff and protective staff that you'll need to know by their full names. You want to invite friends over, so you can go through this together. But the only person that Maekar will allow is Lucienne.

"Because of Dream's influence?" You ask.

"Because when I'm not around she'll keep you in line" Maekar gently kisses you on the temple.

You lean into the kiss.

Maekar isn't really a breakfast person, but you are. So he'll make a lone slice of toast nibbling on it as you have cereal. You have passions and an athletic side that you abandoned years ago. You to want travel, you want to meet female commanders. You want to practise combat. You say you want to be able to fight.

Against whom? Maekar wonders. We have a Kings guard for a reason.

But he doesn't ask, he doesn't want to interrupt the magnetic rhythm of your voice. He could listen to you all day. The Prince tenderly pats your forearm as a goodbye before he actually goes out the door. These dainty touches against you skin are more a reassurance for him, not you.

Burying the fantasies of you in the casket of his sub consciousness. He high Five's Egg before school and pretends all is well. Floating in the boredom of real life, where the Prince hooks up with random women every now and again. But is pleasantly satisfied by being single. Until he sees you.

Now in real life, Maekar could easily go work everyday without seeing you. The café that you work at is on the other side of the Ruggerio Quad. It's Fairley property, but it's on palace grounds. Your café is a few feet away from the pool. Maekar sits on a sunbed, near the pool,  pretending to type on his phone as you and your colleague Clown set up shop for the day.

Your POV

Every so often you note The blonde Prince staring. Neutral expression and empty eyed. You never know what he's thinking, but you suspect that it's bad news. Prince Maekar comes here every morning, stares at your younger colleague, and hasn't smiled at you once.

You've seen him speaking to Clown and other members of staff. But he's never as so much said a word to you. Of course you want to stay civil with everyone at the palace. But you're secretly dreading the day that the Prince finally says hello. Because you know he'll feel forced into tedious morning chit-chat.

Prince Maekar hates you. You can feel it in the grim way that he sizes you up every morning. The only reason he's here is to get a glimpse of your colleague, and close friend, Clown.

"I need to stop being a pussy and ask hot Maekar out!" Clown whispers.

"Please, put the poor Prince out of his misery!" You whisper. "He comes here every morning for you"

As you two whisper, one of the protective staff helps them lay out the chairs.

"There you go ladies!" Ser Steffon pulls the chairs down for them.

"Here, have a slice of Lemon cake on the house!" You offer.

"Y/N! A woman after my own heart!" Ser Steffon takes the cake and kisses your hand in return. He's so gorgeous that you feel faint, but you compose yourself.

"Haven't you got damsels of distress to save?" You go to sort out the register.

"I've got the two of the prettiest ones in front of me, haven't I?" He winks at both of you before leaving.

"Girl. you've got Steffy in the palm of your cake scented hand!" Clown shrieks.

"I wish!" You exclaim so loudly that Prince Maekar looks at you, not Clown, with a pinched expression.

His eyes narrowing, but you can see a perturbed streak, flair in those immersive blue eyes. You notice his cheeks redden. He gets up off of the sunbed and storms off.

"The Prince isn't happy. We were too loud. We'll get fired if we're not careful!" You warn Clown.

"Ah screw him! It's not against the law to have fun in the morning!" Clown slides on the counter.

You have a feeling that if Prince Maekar could ban everyone from talking just to have a mute morning, he would...…….
