Work Text:
Christmas on the SMP would be chaotic this year. Philza had decorated several areas, making all the wars and past conflicts feel like a bad joke for a moment. There had never been so much peace on the server, and that was… weird.
📍 Las Nevadas, 12 AM.
Tommy moved stealthily between the casino clients, looking for someone specific.
“Tommy?”
He turned his head immediately and ran into Fundy.
“Fundy.”
“What… what are you doing here?”
“Looking for Quackity. Have you seen him?”
Fundy pointed to a corner where the duck hybrid was playing against a client. Tommy approached, already knowing what he’d see: Quackity had full control of the game and the poor guy challenging him was biting his nails.
Tommy cleared his throat, visibly uncomfortable.
“Hey, Quacks—”
No response. Quackity had a huge grin on his face while his opponent thought about his next move.
“Quackity.”
...
“Big Q?”
...
“Agh.”
...
“BIG Q, I NEED YOUR HELP TO GET A GIFT FOR PURPLED. COULD YOU STOP PLAYING FOR A SECOND?”
Quackity almost choked on his own saliva as he turned around. His smile vanished instantly.
“Purpled? What?”
“Yeah, well… you know, Christmas is less than twenty-four hours away and I really…”
Quackity shook his head repeatedly.
“Sorry, uh, I really didn’t think Purpled had friends… let alone you.”
Tommy crossed his arms, offended.
“Yeah, well, I need ideas. What the hell should I get him? You wanna help or not?”
“Look, kid, when I said I didn’t think Purpled had friends, I meant it. He’s a weird little shit, I don’t know much about him.”
Slimecicle was standing next to Quackity, serving him his third glass of wine of the night. He butted into the conversation.
“Umh, I read somewhere that letters are good gifts even if you’re not good at writing, Tommyinnit from L’Manberg.”
Quackity immediately drank from his glass. Tommy felt a twitch in his eye.
“What kind of sappy shit is that?”
“I don’t know, he’s an alien. I guess any show of affection would work for him,” Quackity explained, turning back to his game—only to realize his opponent had taken advantage of the distraction.
Even Slime covered his ears (though it didn’t help much), used to his boss’s outbursts. Quackity grabbed his glass again and looked at Tommy. Tommy, knowing exactly what was coming, ran away dodging the glass Quackity threw at him.
Humiliating himself at Las Nevadas had definitely been helpful.
📍 Snowchester, 12:10 AM.
Purpled had escaped Las Nevadas a few hours earlier. He had worked a ton of extra hours the past few weeks just to get this day and the next off to spend Christmas with Tommy. That’s why he didn’t have any gift planned.
He knocked softly on Tubbo’s door.
Tubbo opened it immediately, startled by the sudden visit.
“Hey… uh, Purpled. What’s up?”
Purpled gave his best awkward smile, which only made the situation more uncomfortable. He looked down, fidgeting with his hands.
“Can I come in? It’s about Tommy.”
The ram hybrid nodded and let him inside. Purpled sat on an old chair while Tubbo sat in front of him.
“So…?”
“It’s Christmas. I don’t know what to get him. You know him better than I do, so I thought maybe you’d have an idea or…”
Tubbo frowned.
“Look, Tommy has always loved handmade stuff, no matter what it is. If you’re gonna give him something, make sure it shows effort.”
Purpled nodded several times. He stood up to leave, but stopped halfway. An idea had hit him.
“So… if that’s the best option… do you know how to sew? I need help with… you know.”
Tubbo held back a laugh when he saw how hard Purpled was trying.
“Of course. Come here, we can probably finish something in time.”
📍 Somewhere Tommy doesn’t even know, 12:25 AM.
“Great.”
He kept walking aimlessly, still frustrated about not knowing what to get Purpled. While kicking a rock, he stopped when he heard noises between the trees.
He looked up and saw Punz climbing a tree like it was the most normal thing in the world. Punz found the perfect position to sleep between the branches and lay down, closing his eyes.
“What the fuck?”
Punz opened one eye and looked at him from above.
“Tommy! Hey kid, just ignore me and keep going.”
Tommy crossed his arms.
“I actually came looking for you. What are you doing sleeping in a tree like a stray cat?”
Punz let out a dry, sarcastic laugh.
“Ah, you know… couple fight. Dream’s been unbearable today, so I decided to give him some space before we end up blowing up something important… or someone.” He shrugged. “The tree is comfortable, and most importantly, it’s far away from him.”
Tommy blinked.
“Well, I won’t ask more. Look, it’s about Purpled.”
Punz opened both eyes, now fully interested. A mischievous grin appeared on his face.
“Love problems? You’re telling me I’m sleeping in a tree because I fought with Dream and you’re here asking me for advice?”
Tommy almost choked.
“NO! I’m serious. Tomorrow’s Christmas and I don’t know what to get him.”
Punz let out a small malicious laugh at the sight of the angry blond.
“Alright, just because I want to see you suffer… Purpled is simple deep down. He hates flashy things. Give him something useful but meaningful. A new dagger with something engraved, or a light armor you improved yourself.”
He paused, resting his hand on his chin.
“Or, if you wanna go full sappy and risk your life… something handmade. He likes knowing you put effort into it.”
Tommy looked at him hopefully.
“Something handmade?”
“Yeah, but don’t be too obvious or he’ll die of embarrassment. You know Purpled pretends to be cold, but he’s actually a softie.” Punz got comfortable again on the branch. “And hey, if you give him something purple, he’ll definitely like it. It’s his favorite color, though I guess that’s obvious.”
Tommy nodded several times, already getting an idea.
“Thanks, Punz. I owe you one.”
“Yeah yeah, now get out of here before Dream finds me and burns the whole damn forest.”

📍 Outskirts of Las Nevadas, 11:55 PM (Christmas Night).
The next day was finally Christmas. Purpled had told Tommy to meet him on the outskirts of Las Nevadas, like always. He was really nervous while waiting for the blond.
Tommy arrived shortly after. Both looked at each other awkwardly.
“Hey… nice Christmas, huh?” Tommy said.
Purpled nodded.
“Even though I worked extra to get these days off, Quackity still made me work this morning, but anyway…”
He pulled out a carefully wrapped box from behind his back and handed it to Tommy without saying anything else. Tommy’s eyes widened in surprise.
He opened the box with a bit of guilt and froze.
He took out the garment and held it up.
It was a cape made of black wool with purple details. Tommy’s eyes sparkled and he immediately put it on.
“It’s perfect! I love it, Purp!”
He couldn’t contain his excitement, making Purpled take a few steps back, embarrassed that Tommy liked it so much.
“Fuck, now I feel bad giving you what I made…”
Tommy extended his hand, offering a small, slightly squished and poorly wrapped box. Purpled took it curiously and opened it. Inside was an amulet made of amethyst and netherite with the initials “G.D.” (Golden Duo) engraved on it.
Purpled’s eyes got a little watery. He didn’t know what to say.
“I love it.”
That was all that came out. Tommy celebrated internally, smiling like an idiot.
It was funny — they were so different, but in the end, both loved handmade gifts.
Purpled had sewn a cape with Tubbo’s help.
Tommy had made an amulet just for Purpled.
