Work Text:
Tsukasa has kept this secret hidden away for nearly a decade now; the secret of who is lover truly is.
Kamishiro Rui, the class weirdo back in highschool, the ingenious inventor of theater props, and skilled director of shows.
Tsukasa is the only one who knows the truth.
Rui is a vampire.
Not the one everyone sees in cartoons and horror movies that dissolves in the sunlight, but a full on monster that feeds on blood to survive.
Contrary to popular belief, he can go out in the daytime. The sun makes him feel somewhat nauseous and physically weak if he's under its rays for too long, but it won't kill him.
If he happens to leave the house during the day, he returns home much hungrier than usual, something that Tsukasa had eventually gotten used to.
When he first found out Ruis secret, he was scared— that's expected. But... it was still Rui at the end of the day.
Plus, he primarily feasted on small animals out of fear of accidentally killing a human.
That is... until Tsukasa offered himself.
☆
"Rui... have you ever bitten a human?"
"No," Rui denies, continuing to complete his notes for a new prop. "I try not to think about it, in all honesty. I would rather not risk killing someone."
"...would you like to try?"
All movement from Rui came to a screeching halt. He slowly turned around to face Tsukasa who was on his bed twiddling his thumbs in circles around each other.
"Excuse me?"
"Do you... want to bite me?" Tsukasa repeats with more specification.
"I— Tsukasa, you shouldn't say that so casually, what if I took you seriously?" Rui scolds, completely under the impression that his lover was joking.
"I am serious." Tsukasa looks up at him. "I-I mean, I'm just... curious."
"About what? Getting the blood drained from your body?" Rui huffs a laugh of disbelief. "It's dangerous, Tsukasa."
"But—" Tsukasa stops to thinks before continuing, "You mentioned once that vampires get... somewhat of a unique feeling from feeding on humans, and... I just thought that— maybe— you'd... like to experience that."
Rui blankly stares at Tsukasa, struggling to process his words. "That... is true, yes, but— but I could hurt you."
"But, you won't."
"You don't know that." Rui argues. "I could get addicted to it and feed on you until you're too weak to deny, and— and I don't want that to happen, Tsukasa."
"That's a risk I'm willing to take, Rui." Tsukasa stands and walks up to him, looking down into Ruis eyes. "I love you, and... I want you to be able to rely on me more."
Rui swallows, eyes darting between Tsukasas eyes and his exposed neck. He... was extremely hungry that day...
"Are... you absolutely sure?" He asks, voice tinted with want and uncertainty.
"I am." Tsukasa places himself on Ruis lap, pulling him into a hug. "I trust you, Rui. I always have."
With the embrace, the crook of Tsukasas neck with almost touching Ruis mouth. The thought of letting his fangs sink into the soft flesh clouded his mind, instincts kicking in.
Tsukasa was technically correct. Rui had thought of biting him before, but he was always too nervous to suggest it.
Maybe Tsukasa picked up on it, because Rui swore he read his mind and stole the words from it himself.
He could feel Tsukasas heartbeat, he could sense how nervous the human was. Was it a fearful nervous or an excited one? That, he has no idea.
"Rui," Tsukasa whispers, kicking the vampire from his thoughts, "you can do it."
Rui looks back down at the open skin just in front of him with a hard swallow before lowering his lips to it.
He leaves small, languid kisses along the flesh at first, trying to get Tsukasa 'warmed up' in a way.
"It's going to hurt," Rui says between heavy breaths. "It will go numb after a few seconds, and you may feel a sudden spike in dopamine... something akin to intoxication."
Tsukasa nods. "Okay," he holds Rui closer. "I trust you," he repeats.
"...thank you." Rui whispers before opening his mouth and biting down.
As expected, Tsukasa harshly jolted in his hold with a muffled yelp of pain, but continued to let Rui feed.
The moment Tsukasas blood touched his tongue, Rui was gone. It was much different from that of an animal— sweeter. His pupils dilated as he completely gave in to the new sensation, desperate for more.
He wrapped his arms around Tsukasa to keep him close as his fangs sunk in deeper, making the human quietly cry out.
He soon felt shaky hands reach his head as fingers lace into his hair, gripping on like a lifeline.
Rui simply let his eyes close and the blood flow through his body, satiating his hunger better than anything else he's fed on before.
He doesn't know how long he was zoned out, but he's suddenly brought back to reality when he feels Tsukasas body go fully lax against his, the stars hands falling from his head.
His eyes shoot open as he carefully removes his fangs.
"Tsukasa..?" He pushes the human back, panic setting in.
"...huh?" Tsukasa looks up at him with half-lidded, teary eyes.
"A-are you alright..? I— I didn't do too much, did I..?"
"...ah, I dunno..." Tsukasa falls against Ruis body again, snuggling up to him. "Are you full, Rui..?"
"I... I am, yes..." Rui gently hugs the human, wiping his mouth. "I'm sorry... I wasn't paying attention to how much I was taking..." he licks the puncture wounds clean as an apology, watching as they slowly stop bleeding.
Tsukasa shakes his head. "...it's okay~" he yawns. "At least you're not hungry anymore..."
"You should eat something," Rui lifts Tsukasa up without trouble and brings him to one of their dining room chairs, letting him rest his head on the table. "Uh... foods with iron..." he thinks aloud, trying to remember.
"Beef," Tsukasa yawns again, "in the fridge..."
Rui nods and swings the refrigerator open, finding a still defrosting pack of beef on one of the shelves.
"Just... let me cook these a bit, okay?"
Tsukasa nods and Rui does what he has to. He knows Tsukasa could technically eat them as they are, but knows humans digest food better when it's at least somewhat cooked first.
Every few moments, Rui turns to make sure Tsukasa was still awake, panicking when he didn't move for a second too long.
Once the food is cooked enough to be digested properly, he sits down and puts the plate on the table, calmly cutting the meat into small enough pieces to be eaten. He takes the liberty of feeding the human himself, knowing Tsukasa was likely much too weak to do it on his own.
He helps Tsukasa eat until the plate was empty along with plenty of water. About thirty minutes later, Tsukasa was looking much more awake.
"How are you feeling..?" Rui worries.
"I'm okay," the human smiles. "It... was definitely an experience."
Rui nods. "I... would have to agree."
"...did you like it?"
Rui blinks. "A-ah... I did, yes. You... you taste very sweet."
"Do I?" Tsukasa perks up. "Do vampires taste blood differently than we do?"
The vampire nods. "Yes. Each human has... a distinct taste, from what I've been told. And, I suppose that's true."
"Oh! What did I taste like?!"
"U-uh... like... an orange candy?"
"Oh... interesting..." Tsukasa smiles. "I'm glad you enjoyed yourself."
"Tsukasa, in all seriousness... now that I've done it once..."
"You can do it again." Tsukasa takes the words from his throat.
"Are you sure, though? You could develop anemia or— or some other blood issue."
"I'm sure." Tsukasa holds his cold hand. "Because I know that you are able to control yourself. I mean, it was your first time feeding off me and you stopped when you realized you may have done too much. So... I trust you to do it again."
Rui couldn't help but feel greatful. "Kasa..." He throws the human into a tight hug, one to remember.
☆
Since then, Rui has still been feeding on animals, but will occasionally have to use Tsukasa if he's too hungry for animals to help with.
Today was one of those days.
They were visiting Tsukasas parents for his sister's birthday when Rui grew hungry. Except... something was different.
He wasn't just hungry, his instincts were telling him to hunt.
He didn't know why, he hasn't hunted in well over a hundred years because he simply never felt the need to.
Just so much as looking at Tsukasa made him salivate, his fangs inching to sink into the humans flesh again.
He was so desperate for blood it almost hurt. So... he needed to cut the party short.
"Tsukasa..." he whispers, grabbing Tsukasas arm.
"Hm?" He turns to look at Rui, already knowing what he wanted by his tone. "You hungry?" The blond tilts his head, a bad idea.
Ruis eyes twitches at the exposed flesh.
Suddenly, Tsukasa felt like prey.
Ruis gaze was different than other times he was hungry.
In all honesty, Tsukasa was starting to get scared. A normal, expected response; but he wasn't sure what to do.
"R-Rui..?"
Hearing his name, Ruis eyes moved to the humans, slit pupils burning into Tsukasas very soul.
Tsukasa swallowed and instinctively backed away. "U-uh, heh—" He glances over at his family sitting not too far away. "Should... we leave?"
Rui doesn't respond, he just holds the eye contact, as if trying to see into the humans mind.
Tsukasa takes that as a yes. He rushes over to his family to tell them their plan. "H-hey, Rui and I are gonna have to leave early."
"Oh, is everything okay?" Saki— his sister— questions, glancing over at Rui.
"Yeah! Rui, just... doesn't feel too well, so... we're gonna go home."
"Oh... I hope you feel better, Rui!" The girl waves at the vampire who gives the smallest wave back.
"Okay... thank you, bye!" Tsukasa quickly grabs Ruis arm and they hurry out of the building. Luckily, they didn't live too far away.
The moment their front door shuts, Tsukasa was trapped between it and Rui, the tallers arm by his head.
"R-Rui, what's wrong? You're scaring me."
Ruis head falls to Tsukasas shoulder, breathing heavily onto his previously covered bite marks, peeling the bandage off to reveal the wounds. "...hungry."
"I can tell, but... you're acting strange." Tsukasa puts his hands on Ruis chest to push him back, but the vampire was persistent.
"Please," Rui begs, tongue already lapping at the humans neck.
"No, back up." Tsukasa orders, finally pushing the taller away to maintain distance.
Rui continues to stare him down, saliva dripping down his chin.
"What's going on with you? You're never this adamant."
Ruis gaze doesn't falter as he approaches the human once more. "Mine," he breathes.
Tsukasas eyes widen. "...what?"
The vampire grabs Tsukasa hair and pulls his head to the side, prompting a pained whimper to escape the human. Tsukasa tries to squirm from Ruis grip but ultimately fails.
Tsukasa was stronger than Rui... why can't he get out of this?
"Mine..." Rui repeats, tongue back at Tsukasas neck.
"R-Rui, please stop..." he pleads, fear overcoming his entire nervous system as he feels Ruis fangs graze his skin.
Without warning, Tsukasa yells out as Rui bites down much harder than he ever has, the grip on the blonds hair tightening.
Different.
Everything was different.
It didn't go numb this time, it burned. It only got worse the longer he was stuck.
Rui wasn't just feeding...
He was trying to kill Tsukasa.
"Ru—" Tsukasa gasps, "Rui— stop—" His body spasms as he feels the blood being forcibly drained from it. His tears join the trail of blood dipping down his body, Rui licking them both up before returning to his neck.
He was scared.
He didn't want to die, especially not to the person he loves the most.
But... he was helpless. He was growing weaker by the second and he just couldn't keep himself up anymore.
His vision started to go dark around the edges as his legs gave out. Rui let go of his head, letting it fall limp against his shoulder while he held Tsukasas body up.
"...please..." he mutters one final time as his eyes close.
☆
He wakes up with a loud gasp, hand flying to his sore neck.
Just seconds later, the door swings open and Rui enters in a panic.
On instinct, Tsukasa shuffles away from him, holding his free hand out in front of his body.
"D-don't come near me..!" He yells with a shaky voice.
Rui backs up and stares at him with eyes that somehow showed more fear than Tsukasas.
"Tsukasa, I'm— I'm so sorry..."
Tsukasa takes multiple deep breaths to calm himself before speaking. "What happened?"
Rui lowers his head, looking more guilty than Tsukasas had ever seen. "I'm... not entirely sure." He curls his fingers into fists at his sides. "I— I just... got this urge to hunt, an-and I couldn't push it down... I'm sorry."
"You tired to kill me," Tsukasa states in a monotone voice, making the vampire flinch.
"...I did." Rui backs up further. "Th-this is why I was so against feeding off of you in the first place."
Tsukasa sighs. "How am I still alive? You didn't turn me into a vampire, did you?"
Rui shakes his head. "No, I... I've been giving you fluids every few hours and... it seemed to help."
"Well... thank you." Tsukasa holds his hand over the now bandaged bite marks. He lowers his eyes to the bed below him. "I was scared, Rui."
Rui lets out a shuddering breath before replying. "...me too."
Tsukasa knits his brows and looks back up. "Why?"
"I couldn't control myself, I was afraid this would happen. An-and when I finally snapped out of it... you didn't wake up." Rui grips at his own hands, fingers clasped together. "I didn't know what to do... I-I thought I had really killed you. I... I was terrified."
Getting a proper glance at Ruis face, Tsukasa could tell he had been crying recently. He learned that vampires cry blood rather than tears, so it was fairly easy to tell if he had been doing it.
Rui was being honest, he can tell that much.
He was conflicted.
He loves Rui, he truly does. He would do anything for him.
But... Rui tried to kill him.
What if it happens again?
Though... Rui didn't mean to.
With a heavy sigh, Tsukasa speaks.
"Rui," he paused.
"Tsukasa," Rui replied all the same, waiting.
"Are you okay now?"
Rui blinks. "H-huh?"
"You... you won't do that again, right?"
The vampire shook his head. "No! I won't..!"
"What if you get... that urge again?"
"Then..." Rui took a deep breath. "You can lock me away until the urge lessens."
Tsukasa shudders, Rui sounded dead serious. "Lock you away..? H-how? And with what? An-and for how long, I—"
"Silver," Rui explains. "We... could find a chain or something. And... it can last for a full day if it's ignored, so..."
"Are you sure..? Won't that hurt you?"
"Yes, but it's better than me doing this again. I would rather sustain silver injuries than kill you. Please, Tsukasa. I'm asking you to do this."
"Animals won't help?"
"No, we instinctively go for humans during those times. I managed to ignore it last time it happened because I've never fed from one before, but now..." he trails off.
Tsukasa lowers his eyes in thought. Now that Rui ended up giving in to his urges, the chance of it happening again is significantly higher. If he wants to keep Rui around... this is probably his only option.
"...okay. I forgive you. But... no feeding from me for a while..."
Rui nods. "Of course, you need to recover." He weakly smiles. "And... thank you."
Tsukasa shuffles to the edge of the bed and opens his arms, urging Rui to come closer.
The vampire stays in his spot for a moment, contemplating. Once he sees Tsukasas welcoming smile, though... he nearly jumped into the humans arms. "I'm so sorry, Kasa..."
"It's okay... I'm okay." Tsukasa calmly rubbed his head until they had both calmed down.
☆
It's been a year since then, and Rui hadn't felt that urge since that day.
That is, until today.
They had found a pure silver chain if this day were to ever come again.
Both of them had hoped they'd never have to use it.
But, when Rui stared at Tsukasa with those bloodthirsty eyes, he had no choice. He felt the same fear he did the year before, but he had the ability to defend himself this time.
So, he rushed to grab the chain and managed to push Rui to the ground of their basement, wrapping the chain around the vampires arms like they agreed on.
Once Ruis arms were secure, Tsukasa tied the excess chain to a pole in the center of the room, catching his breath as he watched his lover thrash around in protest.
"I'm sorry, Rui... this is for the best, you know it is." Tsukasa kneeled down to the vampire with a pitiful gaze.
Rui yanked his arms in whatever direction he could, growling and hissing at the burning sensation flaring up under his skin.
All the while his eyes were locked on Tsukasas like a five star meal, salivating at the look of him alone.
"I'll come back later to check on you," the human sighed and walked upstairs, leaving Rui alone for the time being.
Every few hours, he'd peek his head in to see how Rui was doing. Each time he saw him, Rui looked weaker.
He guessed it was working. Rui had previously told him that Tsukasa would know if he's back solely by if he's able to hold a conversation. He'd be tired and hungry, but he can reply like normal.
As the day comes to an end, he returns to the room to find Rui completely slumped over, arms still twitching in pain.
"...Rui?"
The vampire slowly looks up at him. He looked significant less feral, but Tsukasa could tell he wasnt completely back yet. Either way, he decided to try.
"Hey..." he nervously smiles at Rui. "How are you feeling..?"
Rui only growled quietly before forcing out a mumbled 'mine,' just like last time, his pupils constricting into slits again.
"...thought so." Tsukasa sighs and heads back for the stairs. "I'll... be back in the morning."
He doesn't know how he managed to fall asleep with how worried he was, but he returned to the basement the moment he woke up the following morning.
This time, Rui looked up at him before he even said anything, watching Tsukasa walk down the stairs with a soft expression. A good sign.
"Morning," Tsukasa tried one more time.
"...hi." Rui whispers a reply, letting his head fall limp from exhaustion.
Tsukasa lets out a breath of relief at the response.
"How are you feeling, Rui..?"
"...tired... hungry... in pain..."
"I know, sweetheart... but this was for both my and your safety."
"...mhm," Rui weakly tugs at the chain. "...hurts."
"You seem to be back, so... let me take those off." Tsukasa quickly yet cautiously removed the chains, only for Rui to fall forward onto the floor with a heavy thud, too weak to hold himself up.
Tsukasa gently helps him up, careful not to touch his aching arms. Silver tends to leave burn-like injuries on vampires skin, and it looked horrible.
Tsukasa knows it will heal, but not as well as any other wound.
Good thing Rui prefers long sleeves anyway.
"Sorry, Kasa..." Rui whispers, melting into the humans arms.
"You didn't do anything, it's okay." Tsukasa rubs his back. "You wanna feed a little bit?"
Rui weakly nods, head already nuzzling into Tsukasas shoulder.
"Go ahead, you can."
Just seconds later, Tsukasa flinches at the familiar feeling of Ruis fangs breaking skin. He could feel the vampire feeding slowly, trying to get his energy back without hurting the human. Tsukasa calmly pets the back of his head as he feeds, reminding him that he was still there.
Once he was full, he licks the wound and places apologetic kisses on it like always before cuddling up to Tsukasa.
"Feel better?" Tsukasa lets him snuggle as close as he could.
Rui nods. "My arms hurt..."
"They probably will for a while, yes." The human kisses Ruis head. "I'm sorry I had to do that, though..."
"Mm-mm, I told you to last year. It was the best option."
"I know, but I just feel bad seeing you in pain like that over something so... natural for you."
"I understand..." Rui weakly sits up to look at Tsukasa. "But... it's better than one of us ending up dead."
"...true." Tsukasa sighs. "Also, I have a question."
Rui tilts his head, letting him continue.
"Both last night and last year... when you're in that state, all you really say is 'mine' when you look at me... why?"
"Ah... vampires are very possessive of their prey." He lets out an awkward laugh. "And, since I end up seeing you as said prey, I suppose I get... overprotective in a... weird, predatorial kind of way..?"
"Oh... that makes sense..." Tsukasa hums in interest.
Rui stretches his sore arms. "I hope that this doesn't happen again... at least not for a long while..."
"Yes, that would be preferred." Tsukasa chuckles, though Rui could tell there was a small spark of fear in it.
Once the residual tension had cleared, they head back upstairs to get things back to how they were just days before.
☆
Months later, Rui started to act... a bit strange.
Not how he did when he was possessive, weirder.
He was almost... angry.
Rui rarely gets genuinely mad, especially like that.
So... Tsukasa goes to find out what's wrong.
"Hey, Rui..?" He cautiously calls out, peering into the garage where Rui was working.
"Hm?" The taller hums, annoyance already resonating from his voice alone.
"Are... you okay?" The human takes a careful step inside. "You've seemed a bit... upset lately."
"I'm fine," Rui sighs, screwing some metal sheets together.
Tsukasa knits his brows. "You're not. What's wrong?"
"Kasa, seriously." Rui huffs. "Just— drop it. Please?"
"But, Rui, you're my husband. If you're acting weird I'm gonna—"
"Tsukasa," Rui finally turns to him, glaring into Tsukasas eyes and making his mouth cease all movement. "I asked you to drop it." As he spoke, the smallest swirl of red shone in his bright yellow eyes before vanishing.
A shiver ran down the blonds spine at the sight. He's seen Rui like this once— back when he first found out his secret in college.
☆
"Rui, are you allergic to sunlight?"
"Allergic..? Why do you ask?" The director giggles, putting his textbooks away.
"Well, you've always tried to avoid it." Tsukasa rests his hand on his chin, elbow on the desk. "That, and you always look super tired after being outside for too long. I mean— it's like you're some kind of vampire or something." He laughs, shaking his head at the ridiculousness.
"...right," Rui replies quietly. "That... would be quite funny, wouldn't it?"
"Oh, definitely!" The star chuckles. "But, vampires don't exist, so—"
"What if they did?" Rui cuts him off, eyes locked on the book in his hand.
Tsukasa nervously silences his laughter when he saw that Rui looked dead serious. "I— w-well, I mean— that'd be kinda crazy, right? I'd probably question everything I knew."
Slowly, Rui lifts his head to lock eyes with his lover. "Tsukasa... if I was a vampire, would you kill me?"
"...huh?"
"Answer the question." Ruis brows furrow as a small bright red trail of sorts circled his pupils for only a brief moment.
"I— I mean..." Tsukasa swallows. "I... don't know. You... you've always been nice to me, so... I don't think it'd make a huge difference, right?"
"You mean it?"
"I... do." The blond slowly nods. "But, why—" cutting him off was Rui suddenly grabbing his hand and gently bringing it up to his face, thumb resting just by his lips.
"Look," Rui nervously orders, pressing the humans thumb to his mouth and urging Tsukasa to do something.
Confused and slightly unsettled, Tsukasa somehow gets the hint. He lets his thumb enter Ruis mouth and moves his lips to reveal his canines— no... his fangs.
He felt his heart stop for a moment. Human can have longer canines, but this... this was abnormal. How didn't he notice them before?
He shakily withdrew his hand. "A-are you—" he stands, his chair falling to the ground. "How— vampires aren't real—"
"They are," Rui stands as well, "...we are."
"We?!" Tsukasa yells. "There's more?!"
"Not here, no. But... we are real."
"I—" Tsukasa huffs a nervous laugh. "This is ridiculous— I have to be dreaming, there's no way you're—"
"Tsukasa," Rui softly calls out. "Are you scared of me?"
Tsukasas eyes travel across Ruis body in search of an answer.
Was he scared..?
No, he could never be scared of Rui...
But, he's a monster.
Even so... he's never once purposely tried to hurt Tsukasa, vampire or not.
"...no," he answers, locking eyes. "I-I'm scared of... of the concept of vampires being real, but... not you."
Finally, the smallest smile forms on Ruis lips. "Thank you."
☆
Since then, he hasn't seen those eyes once. And, Rui wasn't even angry back then. He was—
...he was scared; he was trying to protect himself.
Realization finally dawns on him. "Rui... what are you scared of?" He changes his initial question.
Immediately, Ruis eyes leave his. His head lowers back to his project.
"Rui," Tsukasa tries again, walking up to the vampire and rubbing between his shoulderblades. "You can tell me, you know that, right?"
"I know..." the taller sighs. "I... I've been... feeling that urge again."
Tsukasas hand immediately lifts from the other. "Oh."
"I've been trying to push it away and it's been... putting a lot of stress on me. So, I'm sorry."
"No, it— it's okay." Tsukasa starts to feel guilty. "I'm sure I've been making it worse, huh..."
Hesitantly, Rui nods.
"But... you need to tell me when that happens, Rui."
"I know, but—"
"Rui, I'm serious. I thought you were mad at me for something. I— I thought our marriage was on the line here!" He pouts.
"Ah... I apologize..." Rui weakly laughs. "It's nothing personal, I promise."
"Well, now you tell me!" Tsukasa sighs. "But, in all seriousness... please start telling me when you feel that urge. That's something we need to deal with together, remember? I'm... kinda your first target and I do not wanna lock you in the basement again."
"...true." Rui turns to him. "I'm sorry, dear..."
"It's fine," Tsukasa smiles down at him. "How are you doing right now?"
"Not... terrible. Though, I can tell it's still there."
"Do you need anything? Other than, y'know... my blood."
"Heh," Rui shakes his head. "I'm alright, thank you though. I... may sleep in here tonight if possible."
"Eh..? Won't that be uncomfortable?"
"Yes, but, like you said, you're my first target. I'm sure if I'm right next to you, well... you know what happens."
"I guess..." Tsukasa sighs and bends to rest their foreheads together. "Sorry for pressuring you."
"It's okay," Rui smiles. "I'm sorry for leaving you in the dark like that."
"Just don't do it again, okay?" Tsukasa begs, getting a nod in response. "I love you, y'know that?"
"I love you too, Kasa." Rui slowly leans closer, letting their lips connect.
As always, Tsukasa instantly melts into the kiss, bringing his hand to Ruis neck and holding him closer as his fingers thread through the directors hair.
Slowly, Rui stands without breaking the kiss. Instead, he deepens it as his tongue asks for permission to enter the stars mouth. Of course, it was granted. Tsukasa makes a soft noise in his throat, one that sent flames through Ruis body.
He separates for only a moment to pick up the human and sit him on the desk, Tsukasas legs wrapping around Ruis waist like second nature. The moment he was seated, Rui pushes together once more. His hands travel along the stars upper body under his shirt, the contrasting temperatures making the human shiver.
His mouth soon finds it usual place by Tsukasas neck, licking and nipping at the skin and drawing quiet sounds from the other.
As he places a kiss over one of his previous entry points, a pulse of pain shoots through his entire body.
"Agh—" he stands up and holds his head, freeing himself from Tsukasas legs and backing up.
"Rui..?" The human tilts his head.
"M-maybe... we shouldn't do that today... ngh..." He peeks at Tsukasa from the corner of his eye, letting the human see the familiar gaze of painful hunger.
"Ah... r-right..." Tsukasa bites his lip and fixes his clothes, eyes falling to his lap. "I, uh... guess I'll go... deal with this in the bathroom..."
"...sorry," Rui frowns as the star hops off the desk.
"No, it's fine!" Tsukasa quickly shuts his apology down. "Really, it's okay. We... should've thought about that beforehand..." he lets out an embarrassed chuckle. "I... assume you won't be wanting dinner later..?"
"Probably not..." The vampire sighs. "I'm sorry again..."
"Rui, it's okay." Tsukasa repeats. "I'm not upset about any of this anymore now that we talked it out." He smiles.
"...okay." Rui returns the smile. "Then... I'll... continue my work, I suppose..."
"Right..." Tsukasa groans. "I... will be in the shower..."
"Have fun," the vampire chuckles.
"I won't." The human presses his lips together in faux annoyance.
"Hey, it's not my fault you get hard so fast. I barely even touched you."
Tsukasas face goes bright red. "I— it— it is your fault, actually!" He sputters. "And— sh-shut up! Just— do your work!" He turns to the door with a huff. "And... I love you."
"I love you too." Rui replies softly.
With the words spoken, Tsukasa nods and heads to take a shower.
Rui ended up spending the rest of the day in the garage as their earlier... activities accidentally heightened the urge, making it harder to suppress.
He was able to, but it was still painful.
☆
That continued to happen at least once each year following that. They've sort of agreed that its just an annual thing they have to deal with.
After getting used to it, they've found ways to deal with it without having to be separated!
"Mnm..." Rui groans as he wakes up one morning, already feeling dizzy.
Of course, Tsukasa knew what that meant.
Now, what was this... idea they came up with?
It's simple, really.
Having Tsukasa by his side at all times, forcing him to push through it.
It was Ruis idea, shockingly. He noticed that if he's near Tsukasa that, yes, he'll be extremely tempted to bite him. However, if Tsukasa stays close despite that temptation, it goes away. He doesn't know why it works that way, but it does.
Weirdly, it hurts less than doing it alone. It's been getting easier to force away, too. It was like a toothache or scratch; if he ignores it to the best of his abilities despite the obvious pain or itch... he's eventually able to go on with his day.
He thinks it has something to do with his instinctively possessive nature. If Tsukasa— his prey at the time— is gone, he freaks out and becomes desperate to see him. If Tsukasa is right beside him, he won't have to worry about another vampire stealing him away.
So, they've been going with that method.
"You dizzy?" Tsukasa checks, rubbing the vampires head.
"Mhm..." Rui quietly growls at the overwhelming scent of Tsukasa. He wanted to bite him so badly... he could already feel his teeth craving to dig into flesh.
"Relax, love." Tsukasa softly shushes him like a mother. "We've been through this before."
"You smell nice..." Rui cracks his eyes open, hunger meeting the reassurance of Tsukasas.
"Thank you, but you know what to do, right?" Tsukasa raises a brow.
With a bothered huff, Rui nods and slowly sits up to swing his legs over the bed.
Like other times, he shuts his eyes with a deep exhale. "Relax..." he whispers to himself. "Just... get up... and start the day."
Tsukasa watches closely, looking for any signs that Rui won't be able to do it.
One Rui was done reminding himself of other tasks, he stands on shaky legs, Tsukasa close behind in case he falls. Luckily, he seemed alright.
Like always, they head to the kitchen so Tsukasa could make himself some breakfast while Rui tries his best to remain calm. His leg anxiously bounces under the table, giving Tsukasa a bad feeling.
When Rui abruptly stands, the stars thoughts were confirmed.
"Tsukasa, I— I can't do it today—" Rui breathes, gritting his teeth.
"You can, Rui." Tsukasa denies. "You have before and you can now." He walks closer.
"No— n-no, I can't—" Rui puts his arms out in front of him, backing away from the human as Tsukasa persists.
"I know you can." Tsukasa repeats, successfully getting Rui backed to a wall.
"Wh-what are you doing? You shouldn't go near me right now, I—"
"Rui," Tsukasa gently grabs the vampires arm, making him jolt. "Relax."
Rui lets out multiple heavy breaths, his eyes darting between Tsukasas and his exposed neck, unconsciously licking his lips as he swallows. "K-Kasa..." he whispers.
"Rui, can we try something?"
"Try... wh-what?"
"Something that, if it works, will make you feel better."
Rui hesitantly nods. "What is it..?"
"Come here," Tsukasa gently tugs Ruis arm, urging him closer.
"But— but what if—"
"Rui, do you trust me?" Tsukasa cuts him off, his tone serious.
"I— I do, but—"
"Then come here. I promise you it'll be okay. You need to trust me."
Slowly, Rui steps forward, mind getting louder the closer he gets.
Suddenly, he's pulled into a hug, his lips landing directly by Tsukasas neck.
"Ts-Tsukasa?! What are you doing?!" He panics, struggling in the humans hold.
"Kiss me." Tsukasa says, making the vampire halt all movement.
"What..? Are— are you insane?!" Rui attempts to lift his head, only for Tsukasas hand to thread through his hair, keeping him close.
"Rui, please." Tsukasa begs. Rui could feel the humans nerves through his pulse. Tsukasa was scared of what he was doing... but he trusts Rui enough to do it. He doesn't know if it'll work or not, but he clearly wants it to. "You need to trust yourself." The human whispers.
Ruis hungry eyes find their way to Tsukasas neck, saliva threatening to fall from his lips. "...are you sure?"
"No," Tsukasa huffs a laugh. "But... if this works... then we'll both feel better."
"And if it doesn't?"
Rui felt Tsukasas heart skip a beat. "It will. It'll work."
Rui sighs. The human sounded relatively sure of himself despite saying he wasn't.
Like Tsukasa said... Rui needs to trust himself.
"...okay." He gives in. "What do you want me to do?"
"Thank you." Tsukasa smiles into Ruis shoulder. "Just... kiss me, lick my neck, do— do everything but bite me. See if it satisfies some of your instincts."
With one final breath, Rui nods. "Okay... I'll try."
He feels Tsukasa nods against him, the hand in his hair tightening subtly.
As gently as he could, Rui pressed his lips to the humans neck. As expected, he felt his hunger grow as a wave of ecstasy shot through his body. Just like the first time he gave in to this, his hand finds its way to Tsukasas head and moves it to the side, giving himself more room as his other arm wrapped around the humans waist to keep him close.
He knew Tsukasas fear was growing too, he could feel it. Despite that, though... Tsukasa let him continue. He presses more wet, hungry kisses along the skin between heavy breaths. After a few moments, he runs his tongue from the stars shoulder to just below his ear, making Tsukasa shudder.
"Kasa..." he pants into his ear.
"Y-yeah?"
"Can I give you a kiss mark?"
"If... if you think it'll help." Tsukasa nods.
"...thank you." Immediately, Rui dips back down to find a good spot. Once he's found it, he begins sucking a mark into the skin. When he pulls away and watches the mark form, he felt... okay, actually.
Unlike the other times, he wasn't feeling possessive of Tsukasa. At least, not in a prey and predator type of way.
"...I love you," he whispers before leaning down to press more kisses to his husband, letting go of the blonds hair. "I love you so much..."
With a smile, Tsukasa holds him tighter. "I love you too."
Rui continues as he was for a little longer before backing up but not straying too far.
"So... did it help?" Tsukasa asks, face full of anticipation.
"I... believe so." Rui gives a small smile. "Making the mark sort of... gave me the same feeling as biting you," he explains. "I guess your crazy idea worked."
"Yes!" Tsukasa celebrates. "I'm glad. How do you feel?"
Rui chuckles. "Much better now. Though, we can't be sure it'll work every time."
"I know, but... at least we have another method to try, right?"
"I suppose so, yes." Rui lets his body fall forward into the blonds arms once more. "Thank you..."
Tsukasa wraps Rui in his arms. "You're welcome, Rui. I'm glad I could help."
After a much needed minute of comfort, they separate and go on with their day.

To Ruis suprise, that method worked better each time they used it. He was eventually able to suppress the urge fully, getting to the point where it stopped happening entirely.
They were able to live as normally as a vampire and human possibly could, all the while keeping the secret from Tsukasas family.
He doesn't think they'll ever tell the Tenmas for Ruis safety, but they don't mind it.
They're happy how they are, simply being together and enjoying the others company.
Sure, sometimes things get a bit threatening... but they've worked through it before and they'll continue to do it.
As long as they can continue to trust both themselves and their husband, everything will be okay.
