so american

Summary:

Yuuri is back on Earth to finish his college exams. Wolfram came along because he refuses to be apart from his fiancé. After the last test, Yuuri brings Wolfram to meet his small group of American exchange student friends from the international club.

Notes:

kind of a crack fic but not really, I just love domestic Wolfyuu/Yuuram so much and I think they should have nice little earth dates more often.

(See the end of the work for more notes.)

Work Text:

Yuuri had survived college finals week. It has been 5 years since Yuuri Shibuya became the Maou of Shin Makoku. The double black was still living a double life between two worlds. Now a college student, he had blossomed into a 20-year-old adult. With this maturity came realizations about himself, and the fact that he is absolutely head over heels for his accidental fiancé, Wolfram von Bielefeld.

The feelings started to creep up quickly and intensely, until one day he confessed his requited love for the blonde Mazoku. Since that day, the two had begun dating while still being fiancés in title. Yuuri became a diligent king, but did not want to choose one world over the other. Some of his subjects were hesitant about this, but Wolfram supported it 100%.

Yuuri enrolled in college and even started making friends on earth! These days he has his own apartment in Tokyo and everything.

Presently, Yuuri was just wrapping up finals week and Wolfram had accompanied him this time. “Man those finals were rough,” Yuuri complained to his boyfriend/fiancé.

“You only had it so hard over the past week because you decided to put a whole course load worth of studies off to the last minute, you procrastinating wimp!” Wolfram teased.

“Please don’t call me a wimp right now, my brain hurts!” Yuuri pleaded.

Wolfram was sitting with his arms wrapped around his knees on Yuuri’s bed. Yuuri walked over from the desk at which he was studying and sat next to his partner. He slowly leaned in, and whispered “But you can make me feel better,” as he kissed Wolfram on the lips.

These days Yuuri was very affectionate toward Wolfram, getting over the childish rejections he put his lover through during their younger days. It was not out of character for him to initiate kissing, cuddling, and more! This drove Wolfram crazy.

Wolfram leaned into the kiss and wrapped his arms around Yuuri, slipping his tongue into his mouth. The two started a heavy make out session, until…

*Ding*

A phone notification.

“Ugh you wimp, your stupid phone had to interrupt us! Who was that and what do they want from my fiancé?!” The blonde asked.

“It was Lio, he was asking if I was free to hang out to celebrate all of us passing finals.” Yuuri said after reading the notification.

“Well, are you going?” Wolfram asked, kind of upset.

“I haven’t seen my friends in a while Wolf, it would be nice to see them. I know, how about you come and I can introduce you!” he said enthusiastically.

“But your friends don’t know about Shin Makoku, or me…” he trailed off.

“Well, they’re about to now!” Yuuri exclaimed.

The walk from Yuuri’s apartment to the karaoke bar they decided to meet up at was nerve-inducing for Wolfram. The ever proud Mazoku didn’t fear anything, he even asserted himself as Yuuri’s fiancé to Yuuri’s own parents! But this was different. Yuuri used to be afraid of what others would think back on earth if his friends found out he liked the same sex. He was worried Yuuri’s friends would accept him and didn’t understand why Yuuri wasn’t nervous. Yuuri, seeing his fiancé tense up, grabbed his hand firmly and held it the rest of the walk there, not caring who saw. It didn’t help that people in Japan always stared at Wolfram when he was there, making him feel out of place.

“Ready?” Yuuri asked. Wolfram nodded in response. The door to the karaoke bar opened, and Yuuri walked in, hand still in Wolfram’s. Inside, the group was already there in a private room.

Murata was standing outside the room they rented, waiting for them.

“I didn’t know Murata was coming; I would’ve felt more at ease if I knew I’d have at least one other person rooting for us,” Wolfram exhaled a sigh of relief.

“Good to see you Shibuya, Lord von Bielefeld! Ever the lovely couple you are!” The Great Sage chided. Murata had decided to also enroll at the university that Yuuri was attending.

The three entered the room. Idle chatter filled the air as they walked in. Lio was sprawled comfortably on the cushion, Dorothea was gossiping about some of their classmates, Gabi was doodling in her sketchbook, and Nate was scrolling on his phone.

Yuuri met these charismatic individuals in the foreign exchange student club. Yuuri, being American-born himself, decided he wanted more American friends and signed up to join their club. Murata, being the follower he is, joined as well.

“Hey everyone… this is Wolfram von Bielefeld,  my fiancé!” Straight to the point he was. Wolfram was so embarrassed that he thought he might die.

The table exploded.

Lio shot up first, grinning wide. “No way, dude! You got engaged and didn’t tell us? He’s tall!” He offered Wolfram a fist bump. Wolfram stared at it confused until Yuuri gently guided his hand into the motion. Lio laughed. “I like him already!”

Dorothea squealed loud enough to turn heads. “Fiancé?! Oh my god, he’s gorgeous. Like actual royalty. How did you guys meet? Was it love at first sight? I need the tea!”

Murata smiled behind his glasses. “Told you they’d take it well.”

Gabi’s pencil had stopped moving. She looked up at Wolfram, then at Yuuri, and managed a soft, wobbly smile. “He’s… really beautiful Yuuri, I’m happy for you.” Her voice cracked. Her pen went back to sketching, but the lines were shaky.

Nate blinked slowly. “Fiancé. Like… marriage. With a guy.” He let out an awkward laugh. “I mean, live your life, Yuuri, but damn. That’s fast, right? Your parents cool with this?”

Wolfram’s eyes narrowed at the slight, and Yuuri squeezed his hand hard.

“Very cool with it,” Yuuri said quickly. “Anyway! We’re all here to celebrate passing, so… karaoke?”

It was Olivia Rodrigo night at the karaoke bar. Drinks were ordered. Dorothea queued up three emotional bangers.

Gabi went first, choosing “lacy”. She stared at Wolfram as she sung the lyrics, but her eyes kept drifting to Yuuri.

Lacy, oh Lacy, I just loathe you lately

And I despise my jealous eyes and how hard they fell for you

Yeah, I despise my rotten mind and how much it worships you

Wolfram’s grip on Yuuri’s knee tightened like a vice as the group clapped.

Lio followed it up with “bad idea, right?” since he was currently going thru it with an ex, not sure if it was a good idea to reconnect with her. The group laughed at his sensitive side showing.

Then it was Yuuri’s turn. The song began, it was “so american” and he sung it beautifully, eyes not leaving Wolfram’s the whole time

And he laughs at all my jokes

And he says I'm so American

Oh, God, it's just not fair of him

To make me feel this much

I'd go anywhere he goes

And he says I'm so American

Oh, God, I'm gonna marry him

If he keeps this shit up

I might just be in lo-lo-, lo-lo-, lo-lo-, lo-lo-love

Wolfram blushed furiously as the room, minus Gabi and Nate, was cheering for them.

When the song ended, Yuuri sat down and Wolfram immediately pulled him into a searing kiss, uncaring who was watching. “You will pay for that later,” he whispered against Yuuri’s mouth. “In private.”

Then it was Wolfram’s turn.

He had been stewing. Eyes had been on Yuuri all night. Between Gabi’s longing glances and Nate’s judgmental stares, Wolfram was furious.

He selected “my way” off of Olivia’s newest album.

It's a little hard to stomach all your amateur moves

You know he's with me, like obviously

But you linger in the air just like a bad perfume

It's getting to me, embarrassingly

Wolfram’s eyes kept staring down Gabi and Nate, daring them to challenge him as he sung. Lio cheered, thinking it was just incredible stage presence. Dorothea was dancing. Nate looked uncomfortable. Gabi had gone quiet.

By the final note, the entire bar was clapping. Wolfram handed the mic back like a king dismissing a servant and stalked back to Yuuri, pulling him into his lap without asking.

“Mine,” he hissed softly.

“I know,” Yuuri whispered, hiding his smile in Wolfram’s shoulder. “You big jealous baby.”

Of course, nothing could stay perfect.

Nate, several drinks in, leaned over. “Seriously though, Yuuri. Marriage? With… all this?” He gestured vaguely at Wolfram’s dramatic beauty. “Just feels sudden, man.”

Lio elbowed him. “Shut up, Nate.”

Gabi excused herself quietly after that, murmuring something about an early morning art project. The hug she gave Yuuri lingered a second too long, and her eyes were shiny when she left.

Several more Olivia Rodrigo anthems later, the night wound down.

Outside on the cool Shibuya street, the group said their goodbyes. Lio gave Yuuri a solid bro hug. Dorothea demanded that Yuuri come around more often and that he bring his gorgeous fiancé with him. Nate offered an awkward thumbs-up. Murata just winked. Everyone kinda forgot he was there.

Back in Yuuri’s apartment, Wolfram immediately pinned him against the door.

“Your friend Nate is an idiot,” he growled. “And that Gabi girl wants what is mine.”

Yuuri cupped Wolfram’s face, thumbs brushing over flushed cheeks. “They’re just friends. Imperfect, loud, human friends. But you’re the only one for me, baby.”

Wolfram’s expression softened. “Even after I nearly set your karaoke bar on fire?”

“Especially then.” Yuuri grinned. “So American of me, right?”

Wolfram kissed him hard. “Sing that song again tomorrow. Just for me.”

“Only if you sing ‘My Way’ again. Possessive and furious suits you.”

Outside, Tokyo hummed on. Inside, the Demon King and his fiery consort celebrated surviving the evening the only way they knew how, wrapped up in each other while the world (and its awkward friends) spun on.
