Work Text:

"Call Alex Mason. He will vouch for me!"

It's the last thing Woods gets to say, before he is shoved into the rather dingy prison cell. The door locks with a sharp clang and he breathes out a ragged breath.

"Fuck."

He was so fucking screwed.

Woods has zero idea how long he is in the cell for. But at some point it opens up and he is lead out in handcuffs. He is lead to the front desk and he feels relief in his chest to see Mason standing there with a rather pale and tearful David next to him. David will not meet his eyes and that kills Woods a little. Okay maybe he deserved that.

Mason doesn't immediately pay the bail, he just looks curiously at the Sargent at the desk. "Remind me what he did again?"

Woods shoots Mason a betrayed look as the man at the desk sighs heavily, "he was found throwing eggs at the home of Mr Hudson. We think he was accompanied by a little boy around the age of 10, but the kid vanished and Mr. Woods decided to throw eggs at the cop car to distract them."

David looks at the rather interesting floor and doesn't meet Mason's eyes as the man looks over at Woods. "I see, so the other kid got away?"

"Yes, we didn't get a good look at the kid, but Mr Hudson says he is not pressing charges. So long as you pay the bail everything is good."

Mason nods, trying so hard not to laugh as he takes out his wallet. "I'm happy to take him off of your hands."

Woods feels relief, but knows this isn't the end of the matter.

The ride home is awkward. David refuses to meet anyone's eyes and Mason is struggling hard not to laugh. In the end he cannot resist asking, "so you decided to egg Hudson's house because his kid has been bullying David?"

"Yes, I don't regret it." Woods tries to meet David's eyes and the younger kid finally does so. He had genuinely believed Woods would be mad at him.

"You made sure David got away safe." Mason comments, placing his hand on Woods' thigh. "You protected our son".

"I had to." Woods looks over at Mason, giving him a small smile.

"Thank you, I'm not happy that you encouraged David to do this, and he came to me in tears after you got caught, but you did protect him." Mason squeezes his thigh gently.

Woods nods, clearing his throat. "Always, Mason. You know this."

When they get home, Woods decides to take David to bed. The boy is still too quiet and as he helps him into bed, he moves to sit besides him.

"I'm not mad, at all. I am okay and I love you, okay?"

David's lip wobbles and then he's hugging into Woods' side.

Woods hugs him back gently, pressing a kiss to the top of his head. "Everything is fine. I love you."

He feels as if they're being watched and he looks up to see Mason watching them both from the doorway. The fond look on Mason's face makes his heart flip.

After getting David all settled into bed, Woods makes his way to Mason.

"What a day." Mason says mildly as he takes Woods' hand in his and leads him into the bedroom.

"Mhm..I didn't expect it to end like that." Woods admits, looking sheepish. "Sorry…"

Mason gives him a teasing grin, "you really hate Hudson don't you?"

"His fucking son is a bully, of course I do." Woods huffs, shaking his head.

"Well, at least you made sure David wasn't arrested too." Mason moves closer, pressing a kiss to his forehead. "Come on, let's go to bed."

Woods nods, cupping Mason's cheek before leaning in for a gentle kiss. "Best thing I've heard all day."

Mason laughs softly, gently tugging him towards the bed.

That night, Woods lies curled up against Mason and he thinks he would do it all again. Because no one bullied their son.
