I Thought I'd Give It A Shot

Summary:

Intern gets f*cking shot.

I don't want to give more context, nor do I think it is needed.

[Originally a one shot, and can be read as such.]

Notes:

In Animal Hospital, shooting patients just causes them to faint. They don't die, and their treatment changes to be medicine (headache), a medkit (bruises), and bandages (bleeding).

But what about anomalies? They just die. Or do they? If patients don't die, then anomalies probably wouldn't either, and it's only for game/lore reasons (Why would you want to have them stay alive? You'd just leave them to die).

So, I made a fanfic based off of this thought.

Chapter 1: The Guide To Getting Hired

Chapter Text

They were hungry.

As an anomaly, they needed meat to survive. The easiest way to get that meat, was eating living, helpless animals. Some of the other skinwalkers had mentioned a hospital that had great "meal service". That was, if you were lucky enough to pass through undetected. It was risky, but easy if you managed to slip by.

They were hungry enough to attempt the dangerous mission. It would take too much energy to try elsewhere. So, off to the hospital they went. They pushed open the door, the sound alerting the dog at the counter of their presence.

"Hello there, are you here as a patient or a visitor?"

It was easier to play the part of a patient. Tired, and clearly in need of help.

"Hello," they smiled, despite their hunger, "I'd like to check in as a pa-"

A sharp pain cut them off mid-sentence. They lifted a paw to examine the sticky substance dripping down the side of their head. Their body fell to the ground, mind fuzzy. The pain caused their wide, disgusting mouth to open. Their true nature on full display.

There was some yelling. They couldn't tell what they were saying. Someone picked them up and carried them to a bed. What was even happening? They had no clue. The last thing they had managed to notice, was a nurse patching up their wounds.

When they finally awoke, they spotted a table next to their bed. There were two plates resting on the table. One had meat, and the other had lettuce. Why was there food? Why were they still here? But their hunger begged them to feed. They reached for the fork and began to eat.

It was unexpected of the workers to feed them, let alone take into mind both the diet of a skinwalker, and the diet of a rabbit. It made them feel something that they can't recall ever feeling before. Their mouth slightly curved upwards, but not forced like they'd always do.

The nurse from earlier entered the room as they finished up their food. She closed the door behind her, despite the obvious protests from the black feline in the hallway. So many questions filled their head. Why would she enter a room with a skinwalker alone? It was the perfect time to get answers.

"Why... Why are you doing this?" One question to answer all.

"I don't see why we need to kill all the anomalies," she was likely a new hire, "You weren't attacking anyone."

"I was planning to." There was no point in lying.

She moved closer, "Then why don't you?"

. . .

"...I'm in no shape to. Besides, I'm not hungry anymore." Their stomach disagreed. They may not be as hungry as before, but they were far from satisfied.

Her smile was wide, "See? Violence is never the answer."

The feline outside finally managed to unlock the door. "What were you thinking?! You could've died, and we're understaffed enough as it is!"

Understaffed? Maybe they could help out. They felt safe here, ironically.

"I could help," everyone turned to look at them, "I'd be able to recognize other skinwalkers, or help treat patients."

The feline glared at them, about to protest, but the secretary was faster to respond. "Welcome to the team!"

God, were they desperate.
