Work Text:
“GOOD MORNING VIETNAM!” Somehow, Lucifer had acquired a loudspeaker and was shouting and singing through it.
“Shut up, Lucifer.” Michael said. He was so fed up with his brother’s shit.
Lucifer breathed through the loudspeaker before saying one word with annoying enthusiasm.
“No!”
Somehow - despite being in the same body - both Adam and Michael sighed.
“I really hate him.” Michael thought. It was the only way the two could communicate without Lucifer interrupting them. He was now singing Highway to Hell, and it was incredibly hard for the others to ignore him. But it had been five and a half hundred years in the cage for them, and they’d gotten used to it. As much as they can, of course.
In Adam’s head, Michael sat down next to him in the house he’d created. It meant that even though Adam was still aware of what was happening and that he was in the cage, they could sort of get away from Lucifer.
“Yeah, me too.” Adam said. “I’m so sorry he’s your brother.”
“Nothing either of us could control though.” Michael brushed his knuckles against Adam’s.
“Why are you ignoring me?” Lucifer whined. “Pay attention to me, I’m bored.”
Michael and Adam ignored him again.
“I wish he would die.”
“We all do, Adam.”
“Do you really not have anything that can kill him?”
“Unfortunately not. The only thing we could do is fight him until he gets really weak. That might shut him up. But that will hurt you. I do not want that.” Michael said.
“Michael, I would love to fight him, but that’s what he’s intentionally doing, you have to remember that.” Adam reasoned. “He’s trying to piss you off. He probably gets off on it.”
Michael took a deep breath. “Then what do you propose we do?”
“I just want to spend time with you.” Adam said. He reached for Michael’s hand and took it. Despite what he thought would happen after he did that, Michael didn’t pull away.
“We have the rest of eternity to spend time together.”
“I know. But still.”
There was a pause, before Michael spoke again, softly this time. “I want to spend time with you as well.”
Adam broke out in a smile, and Michael realised he would do anything to get the human to smile again.
They sat in a comfortable silence for a while since thankfully, Michael was able to tune out Lucifer’s noise.
Then, Adam spoke.
“Mikey?”
“Hmm?”
“We haven’t actually explored the rest of this house yet. You said it was an actual house, right?”
“Yes I did say that. Do you want to look around?”
Adam nodded, and pulled Michael up off the sofa with excitement.
“Where do you want to go first?” Michael asked.
“I dunno. It’s not like I’ve been in any room other than this one.”
“Why is that?” Michael asked. It had been half a millennia since they had become trapped in the cage, so it surprised the angel.
“It’s silly.” Adam blushed. Michael thought he looked cute.
“I do not judge, Adam.”
“It’s because you said you only can get into that room from outside the house, and I wanted to be able to see you at any point.”
“You know I would have found you.”
“I do. I told you it was silly.” Adam looked to the ground in shame.
“There is no need for embarrassment, Adam.” Michael lifted Adam’s face with a finger. “I think it’s - what is that word - cute. It is adorable. You are adorable.”
Adam smiled again. It was a smile that made Michael feel complete. He hated to see the human sad, which had been happening a lot recently - not fault of his own - and the smile was a fresh break from everything.
Then, Michael said something he never thought he’d say. Not aloud, and not through their mental connection. “I like you, Adam. Really, really like you.”
“I like you too.” And this time Adam did something he never thought he'd do. He leaned forwards and kissed him. Michael was unfamiliar with this since he was an angel, but he seemed to get the right idea since he wrapped his arms around Adam and pulled him closer.
When they broke apart, Adam was gasping for air, as he still needed to breathe. Dammit, Michael had forgotten about that. Adam didn't care though as he smiled. And for the first time in his boring existence, he smiled back.
"I take back what I said," Adam said in a rush, as if he needed to get the words out for some reason. "I don't like you; I love you."
"You love me?"
"Of course I do. You're you. How could I not?"
"I- I am not the great angel you think I am."
"It was a rhetorical question, Mikey. It means you didn't need to answer it." Adam laughed, and Michael vowed to always make him do that. "But seriously, how could you think so low of yourself?"
"It is just what everyone has told me."
"Well, don't listen to them, then." Adam kissed Michael again.
"I love you too." Michael said once they had broken apart. Adam grinned.
This was going to be a long eternity, but at least they had each other.
