Work Text:

The door to Kara's apartment got pushed open by Krypto. Kara and Ruthye followed with bags full of ingredients, although the kryptonian decided earlier that she would carry the most amount of bags due to the fact that she's stronger than Ruthye.

"Kara? Do we really need this much?"

"Yeah." She used her elbow to turn on the lights to avoid Ruthye tripping over something left on the floor; the young girl doesn't have x-ray vision. "Besides, my birthday-week isn't over yet."

A mysterious figure with a blanket covering themself caught the attention of the both of them, before Kara figured out who it was.

"Hey, Ruthye."

"Yes?"

"You wanted to meet my cousin, right?"

"Yes, but why are you bringing that up now?"

"Well..." The woman started walking towards the covered figure. Her hands eventually leaving the bags propped against the coffee table. "You can meet him right now."

She whispered something in the person's ear and the figure jumped up— almost hitting the ceiling when doing so.

"This is my cousin— Clark Kent."

On both her and Clark's face was a look of confusion and surprise.

"Wow." The man slowly started descending, an awkward smile on his face. He put the blanket back on the couch before waving at the young girl. "Uhm... Hi, I'm Clark."

"Hello. I'm Ruthye Marye Knoll of the Danastia clan." She tried to wave back, but forgot about the bags that she still carried. The shock of a flying man in a suit with undergarment over it seemingly being the cause. Once her arms were free, she waved back. "I have heard about you, Clark Kent."

"Oh, uhm... Thank you, Ruthye."

"Although, I had expected you to be a bit... different."

"Different? How so?"

"I thought you were a nerd."

Clark glanced at Kara, who looked away as to not show herself suppressing a laugh.

"...I am not- Wait, Krypto is eating something. "

Before the man could defend himself from being called a nerd, he saw Krypto trying to eat something— something that smelled really familiar to chocolate.

He walked to the kitchen, leaving Kara and Ruthye alone.

"Pretty nerdy, isn't he?" Ruthye nodded, not wanting the other kryptonian to hear that she agreed. She was just on time, since the man walked back in the room at that time. "Hey, Clark, wanna make milkshakes? You haven't forgotten that I asked it through the call, right?"

"I haven't forgotten it, but how are we going to do that?"

"The internet."

That peaked the young girl's curiosity. So much so that the question about what it is slipped out of her mouth.

"...Oh yeah, I forgot that the internet is an earth thingie." Kara took off her sunglasses and put it in her jacket. She then took her phone out, since it is a bit uncomfortable looking at a phone with sunglasses. "There are phones here, which give you access to the internet and that gives you like a shit-ton of information."

Ruthye's mouth turned o-shaped as the information began to turn in her head. She started nodding her head when she understood it.

Clark stared curiously at Ruthye as Kara typed and hunted for a milkshake recipe with a flavor she liked. Ruthye noticed this.

"Sir Kent? Do you have a question for me?"

"Yes... My apologies, but Ruthye, do you have like... superpowers like the two of us?"

"No." The young girl looked a bit down, but then brightened a bit up as she remembered something. "But I am strong enough, so I think that counts."

Clark remembers the call where his cousin explained everything about what happened. He heard about what grim crimes Krem did against her and her family, which was also the cause how she and Kara met.

"Yup." He says, sympathy in his eyes. "You're strong enough."

This confused Ruthye quite a bit, since he hasn't seen her before, nor has she seen him before. Her thoughts being about if he had seen her before, or that the cousins had some sort of telepathy.

"Thank you."

"I found a recipe; a mango-vanilla milkshake." She put her phone back in her coat before reaching for one of the bags, where she pulled out six mangoes and seven vanilla sticks. "Ruthye, Clark, are you allergic to something?"

A coincidental 'no' came from the both of them.

"Okay." She headed for the kitchen with some other ingredients like: heavy cream, ice and salt. The excited barks from Krypto as he almost ate sack of ice made Kara laugh a bit. She noticed that the people she had left in the livingroom hadn't come after her, so she stuck her face out the door opening. "What are you guys standing there for?"

"Yep, on the way." Clark said, a little pep in his step. He was honestly eager to try out the flavor his cousin found.

The stark contrast of the cousins' personalities that came together as some sort of hurricane left the young girl a bit in shock. It was fast-paced, but she would be lying if she said that it was a bad thing. Ruthye liked the vibe that the kryptonians made.

Yet, it reminded her a bit of how her and her brother used to be around eachother, back when her family was still alive. It filled her void with sadness, but this time, it didn't fill it completely. The day that she had spend with Kara and Krypto made her happy.

That happiness made her feel hopeful— that everything will be alright. She knows that it will be a long time before it happens, but that will not deter her hope.

"Ruthye, are you okay?" Kara's voice made her realize she was zoning out.

"...Yes. I'll be fine."
