Late-night walks have always been Shoto's favorite, but this time, he wasn't alone. He was walking with the last person he had in mind.
Looking back, he and Katsuki had simply ended up living in the same apartment. Katsuki had already been there when Shoto moved in. A complete stranger. They mostly kept everything to themselves, neither getting involved with each other's business. They would talk occasionally, sure. But that's all, nothing about their relationship would make anyone think they were friends. Or maybe he's just too awkward to make him one, so they simply just lived together.
That dynamic changed entirely when they jokingly tried to date. To Shoto's surprise, they clicked. One date somehow turned into another. Then another. Before he knew it, they were spending time together outside the apartment. They also got to know each other better. Shoto thinks it was nice. No–it was more than nice. Because for the first time in a long while, he didn't have to be alone.
He had spent most of his life by himself. That's why, at first, he and Katsuki couldn't be more different. Katsuki has always been an easy going person. He had friends everywhere. Shoto noticed that after years of living together. Nothing in their worlds was similar. And Shoto can only feel one thing right now—he felt greatful to have Katsuki in his life. He wouldn't say Katsuki changed his life. But somehow, he still did.
"Oh" Shoto looked at the Big Bite Katsuki was holding. It was his comfort food. Everytime he stopped by 7-11, it was the first thing he'd buy. He just somehow felt comfort everytime he ate it.
"You like this, right?" Shoto could only nod, still amazed by how Katsuki always knew the little details about him. He had noticed that a long time ago, ever since their . It felt like Katsuki knew everything about him. That's why, from then on, he felt like he could do anything as long as he has Katsuki.
"You should try this one too. It's spicy—you might like it." Shoto said while getting a bun and a hotdog. He saw a faint smile on Katsuki's lips, who only answered "okay" while still holding the big bite meant for him.
After they payed, they stayed inside 7-Eleven to eat. They just talked, laugh because somehow, they always had so much to talk about whenever they were together. Katsuki would randomly joke about his friends. He'd complain about them too. Katsuki would also randomly ask him questions, which always got Shoto excited enough to yap about whatever topic came up. They kept talking until they didn't noticed the time. They looked at each other when they realize that the sun was about to rise, and to make it worse, they both had classes that day.
"We still have hours to prepare anyway" Shoto shrugged as they exited the convenience store. They walked beside each other. Shoto's heart was full and he can't stop smiling. They just walked together and they'd just laugh together whenever they see something unusual. Shoto thinks this was really nice, he really like to have Katsuki around. Katsuki's always been a comfort for him.
They kept walking until he felt something cold brush against his hand. He immediately looked down, it's as if his heart skipped a beat when he realized what it was. It was Katsuki's fingers brushing against him. He turned his head away because he felt his face heating up. Katsuki, on the other hand immediately noticed it.
"Sorry, is this okay?" he asked, attempting to pull away. But before he could pull his hand away, Shoto has already grabbed it. And just like that, it was Katsuki's turn to look away. And now they looked like complete idiots, both too flustered to hide the blush on their faces.
They continued walking, no one spoke after that. But their silence wasn't awkward. It was the kind of silence that gave comfort to the both of them. The kind that didn't need to be filled with words. And as Katsuki's hand remained in his, Shoto silently wished for this moment to last a little longer. For this walk to never really end.
"But seriously, Kats.. what are we?" it was the last message Katsuki received from Shoto. He should've seen this coming. Shoto had been hinting it for days–through all those cryptic "what are we?" posts he'd been sharing online.
So all this time, Shoto thought they weren't dating? The fact that that's what Shoto thought about their relationship pissed Katsuki off even more. He carried that frustration with him all throughout his classes. He was more irritated than usual. The only thing he wanted now was to go home so he could talk to Shoto. He was frowning more than he usually did. His thoughts were filled with curses and seemed like he was about to invent a new swear words because of this.
When he arrived at their apartment, Shoto was already waiting in the living room. And all Katsuki could think about were the countless moments they had spent together.
Was all of that just casual to him? Fuck.
Katsuki has always been attracted to Shoto. At first, he thought it was nothing more than a stupid crush. Something he'd eventually get over. But then, he got curious. He started noticing things about Shoto–what he liked, what he disliked and basically everything about Shoto. Of course, he never made it obvious. They were just roommates, after all.
That's why when he came across that one TikTok repost, he didn't hesitate to grab that chance. Even if it meant losing his pride or whatever. So he did, he asked Shoto to go on a date with him. Shoto said yes and one date led to another. Then somehow, they were spending almost all of their free time together. Katsuki had even asked if they should keep doing this. Shoto agreed. So what the hell was this now? And all this time, Shoto didn't even think they had a label.
But how could they not have a label? Weren't they already dating? Didn't that automatically make them something? Boyfriends, maybe?
Because if not, then what were all those late-night walks for? The shared meals? They way they always looked for each other? The endearment?
All of it for what?
The more he thought about it, the more annoyed he became. Before he could stop himself, he was already walking toward Shoto who was now standing. He kept walking until they're only inches away from each other. They were already close. Yet Katsuki wasn't satisfied with that. He stepped even closer until they can feel each other's breath. He noticed Shoto instinctively leaning back so he immediately grabbed Shoto's waist to make sure he wouldn't escape.
The only thing filling the apartment was the tension between them.
"Is this still casual to you?" Katsuki finally spoke. His eyes moved from Shoto's eyes to his lips, then back up again, as if he couldn't decide where to look. Shoto's eyes widened when he realized what Katsuki was doing, but he quickly recovered. A smirk slowly formed on his lips. Shoto was about to lean forward when Katsuki buried his face against Shoto's shoulder.
Katsuki folded.
