Work Text:

Nakhin had to be honest with himself as he flicked the ashes of his cigarette into the ashtray. His dark eyes watching as his mate happily chat with Phatsa by the pool. The pair were adorable together, if not playfully mischievous. He honestly loved that about Ongsa so much and felt blessed to have his love returned. Nakhin would spend the rest of his life proving to his mate that he’d made the right choice by opening his heart to him.

The breeze carried the sound of their laughter and his mate’s scent bonded scent in the air. As a beta Ongsa’s scent was faint of pear and tangerines. A perfect blend to his own mandarin and apricot bloom, which of course wafted towards him. A please rumble escaped just from that alone. That earned him a glance from his mate as he didn’t stop speaking. In fact there was a gleeful gleam in his gorgeous eyes.

“You’re far too comfortable.” Nahkun’s deep drawl announced his older brother’s arrival.

“This is my house remember.” Nahkin snorted, taking another drag. His gaze never left his mate’s direction.

“This is N’Ongsa’s house per the deed.” Nahkun argued, sitting down. He had finally finished his business so that he could come retrieve his mate. He smiled fondly as he followed his brother’s gaze. Phatsa was lounging comfortably across from Ongsa wearing one of Nahkun’s sleeveless workout shirts and the softest maternity trunks. His stomach finally had swollen from the pregnancy. Their pup was going to be a tiny thing like Phatsa had been for his beta parents. Those lithe hands gently rubbing his stomach as he talked.

“He’s my mate and he lets me on the porch when I want.” Nahkin teased his older brother and fellow true alpha. Even though he knew that his emo boy brother was equally a goner of his mate. This time it was his brother that snorted. “We are happier. Far more than we deserve.”

“Yes.” Nahkun hummed a few moments later. It took him even longer to add, “The gardening is helping.”

Ah, Nakhin thought to himself. He was proud of his brother-in-law for still going to therapy. It’d been difficult for Phatsa and Nakhun, especially in the beginning with how they had been strangers to mates. Phatsa had been so willfully ignorant about the other subgenders when he thought he’d been a beta that’d only dated betas. Then he’d been a late blooming omega that had a whole lifetime of catching up. Nahkun took their mother’s advice to get them therapy before Phatsa had gotten pregnant. That’d been just as rocky and Phatsa was a private person in a family of open books which is why Nakhun called it gardening. It also helped that Phatsa had taken to tending to the small garden in the atrium of their condo away from the family home.

“Good. Let us know if you need anything.” Nakhin offered even as he knew his brother knew. They were still very close.

“Ter wants you to come over for dinner after the meeting with President Fan.” Nakhun responded, glancing over to see his brother flicking more ashes into the glass tray on the table.

“Ah, a timed meeting. Do you thi-” Nakhin started to joke with his brother about the enigma that was Fan Xiao. It was rare to see him and honestly he was glad that the man focused all his special gift towards that paramour turned mate of his. Nakhin was interrupted though by a giggle from his mate and his brother-in-law.

“Babe, I’m hungry.” Phatsa called to Nakhun. Nakhin watched as his ever vigilant brother sat a bit straighter. “For some double black peppered chicken.”

“You and petal didn’t do so well last time.” Nakhun responded with a crease in his brow, “I can make you some honey walnut-”

“No, thank you. Petal and I would like double black peppered chicken skewers, noodles with no carrots, rice balls, and Mama’s lemonade.” Phatsa cut him off. The omega had dropped his tone to the sweet one Nakhun couldn’t resist followed by batting his long eyelashes and of course grinning like the cheshire cat that always made the true alpha do exactly what his mate wanted.

“Do you have the snow peas for the noodles?” Nakhun finally turned his head towards Nakhin. His brother might have mated a cafe owner but the real cook was Nakhin. He had never been grateful that they’d not listened to their father about being in the kitchen with their mother as children. Or he’d have missed this part of his life where his pregnant mate wanted what he made for him to eat.

“Yeah, we went to the market this morning. So you’re in luck.” Nakhin snorted in amusement but stopped as he saw his mate looking him over. He knew that look. His mate was about to make his own demands, Nakhin thought about the menu then smiled brightly at his mate. He knew what he wanted. “And so am I. Sweetheart, will you make me one of your teas while we get busy in the kitchen?”

“Yes.” Ongsa winked at him as he cutely got up with a pep in his step to go to the bar by the pool.

“This is our life.” Nakhin happily mused as he followed his brother inside.

“We wouldn’t have it any other way.” Nakhun responded while grabbing one of the aprons off the hook.

Notes:

♡ They chose Petal from where the pregnancy is on the delicate side
♡ I strongly feel that MFlow was going for the "he thought he was a beta then found out when he met his mate he was an omega"; it was a choice to make him willfully ignorant but I am sticking with that and I feel like he'd need lots of therapy for acceptance especially with getting pregnant!
♡ If you squint you can see some nods to other beloved pairings I'm sticking in this AU.
♡ The porch comment comes from a saying where I'm from, "Big dogs reside on the porch while pups want to be there."
