Work Text:
Ruskin raised his head when he heard something from his employer, Mr. Milverton's study. He needed to listen to it a little longer until he could determine the source of the sound, and these seconds were filled with anxiety. He was afraid if something bad happened to Mr. Milverton all of a sudden, this was his greatest fear ever since his beloved employer miraculously got pregnant. They both were aware that this could have not happened, should have not happened - after all, Mr. Milverton was a man and men were not supposed to get pregnant. But somehow it occurred and they both needed to accept the impossible. Mr. Milverton was now carrying Ruskin's child.
Out of all things, this one was sure. Ruskin had no doubt that the child belonged to him. It was like a dream he never even dared to dream about coming true - having a baby with his beloved. Mr. Milverton viewed the child as a forbidden fruit, a way to make their shared evil stronger in the world and he declined the idea of abortion, letting Ruskin to live this incredible fairytale that occasionally turned into a nightmare.
Because Ruskin was insanely worried about what if some complications arise and he will lose the one whom he loved the most in the world. So he kept even bigger attention to Mr. Milverton's health, getting instantly frustrated if they got separated, even if just for minutes when Ruskin couldn't monitor his state. Now, hearing the strange sound almost made his heart stop beating - then when he recognized what it was, the relief filled him inside and a smile appeared on his face. He didn't panic anymore, he knew that everything was alright. But despite that, he decided to go to the study nevertheless.
Just to see his beloved Mr. Milverton.
When he stepped into the room, his gaze immediately fell to the sofa. Mr. Milverton was sitting there, not at his desk - and around him, all of his cats gathered to bring him company. One of them was on the backrest and kept nudging its head to Mr. Milverton's cheek, others mewed at his legs and one was lying on his lap, placing its head down to Mr. Milverton's belly which already started to grow, but it was not big enough yet to give away the pregnancy. Ruskin silently watched the sight for a while. Mr. Milverton looked up at him when he noticed his presence and flashed a smile at him.
"Suddenly, all of them came to me." He noted with amusement. "I have no idea why, but cats do as they please, after all." He added and let out a little laugh.
Ruskin walked there and sat down on his employer's side where there was still a little empty place. He took up his hand.
"It is said that animals can sense if someone is pregnant. Especially pets in the case of their owner." He explained it. "And they like gathering around them to protect them."
"If you say so." Mr. Milverton tilted his head and his eyes playfully shone up. "But as I can see, it's not just the pets." He noted and raised his hand what Ruskin was holding. Ruskin turned red from the remark - but of course, Mr. Milverton was right.
"Yes, not just the pets." He admitted and leaning closer, he covered the beloved lips with his own. "And I promise that I will protect you even if the cats would fail." He whispered after their mouths separated and he inhaled his employer's breath.
Mr. Milverton's eyes knowingly sparkled up and he patted Ruskin like he was a pet as well.
"I would never doubt that." He answered in a tender voice. Ruskin felt as the love he felt for the other man took over his heart completely - not caring about disturbing the cats, he laid his head down at Mr. Milverton's shoulder and remained like that for a few minutes while the cats were purring around them with their cozy symphony.
