A night to remember

Summary:

Pinkay prepares himself for prom, only the image in the mirror looks wrong. Luckily his girlfriend has the perfect solution.

Or trans-female Rose and Pearl go to prom.

Notes:

This work was entirely written due to me being annoyed at a comment left on another fic of mine. Apparently making Rose trans-female wasn't welcome, so I wrote another fic about it!

Remember don't like, don't read.

Also I don't know if I did this right, due to me not being trans myself. I hope I did it justice.

Work Text:

Pinkay fumbled with his tie. No matter what he did, it didn’t seem to fall straight down. Tonight was prom night and he was simultaneously elated as well as disturbed. He focused solely on the elation, on the delight that was swelling in his chest.

He was excited for tonight! He had been planning for it for such a long time! He had stepped into the prom committee to make sure that the night would be undeniably perfect. There was good music, the food was perfect and the location was absolutely astonishing. Since it was a summer night, he had planned for it to be outside inside a botanical garden. There were fairy lights everywhere, as well as tasteful decorations.

It was also supposed to be a clear night, meaning you would be walking underneath the stars. He had planned for everything. Every single detail was accounted for, from rowdy teenagers to mischievous squirrels. He wanted tonight to go perfectly.

Especially since he had finally worked up the courage to ask out the girl of his dreams.

Or well she had asked him out. She had shown up at school with a bouquet of roses, went down on one knee and asked him to the dance. His heart had stuttered inside his chest, while he squeaked out a yes.

He had planned to ask her out though! Just only when everything was perfect… She just beat him to it.

As the tie refused once more to fall neatly, he gave a frustrated sigh and gave up. Causing him to glance into the mirror and forcing him to confront exactly why he was feeling disturbed.

He looked wrong.

The suit he wore was tailored to fit him perfectly. It enhanced his physique, showed off his muscles and emphasized his jaw. The colour was a deep black with subtle pink linings. His hair had been cut this morning and he had made sure to shave away the beginnings of a beard. He knew that he would tower over everyone at the prom, giving him an intimidating and suave presence. His sisters would tell him that he looked handsome. Everyone would that him that he was absolutely striking.

He had never felt so ugly.

No matter how long he looked into the mirror, he just felt wrong. The suit looked terribly on him. It fit perfectly. The haircut was just not doing it for him. It fit perfectly. His body just looked wrong.

He tore his gaze away from the mirror and took a few deep breaths. His mind was flitting everywhere and it was making him sick. He forcefully turned his mind towards this evening. Towards his date. His adorable, gorgeous, beautiful, lovely, charming date.

Aaaaand his hands started sweating. Was this normal? To be this excited to see someone? Even though you just saw them yesterday. His mind started conjuring up ideas of how she would look like in her dress and when he began to picture several other dresses, he turned his thoughts away again.

He wanted to be surprised, so he went downstairs.

“Pink! Oh, look at you! Look at you!” His sister immediately embraced him and looked him over approvingly. “Oh the tie, dear!” She hurriedly fixed his tie and somehow now it decided to obey. “There! Absolutely perfect. Now where did I put the camera?” The blue dress of his sister swished behind her as she looked around. Only for his other sister to pat his shoulder with an approving nod and giving her wife the camera.

“Oh! Thank you darling! Now smile for the camera!” It took about a dozen pictures before he was out the door and into his car. Two of his sisters waving him goodbye.

The car smoothly sped down the roads as he glanced at the clock. His beautiful girlfriend (He had a GIRLFRIEND!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!) had asked him to come earlier so he was arriving at her door about three hours before the prom actually started.

When his mothers asked about it, he had just stuttered that she had a surprise planned for him. They seemed satisfied with the answer before lecturing him about stuttering.

He nervously parked his car, before coming up to the door and ringing the doorbell. He could feet running across the floor as the door was thrown open. “There you are!” A laugh bubbled up inside his throat as he swung his gorgeous girlfriend around. “PEARL!”

After a minute of laughter and hugs, he finally put her down and was astounded at how stunning his girlfriend was. She was dressed in simple yoga pants and a crop top, her hair was wet signifying she just came out of the shower, and she was lovely.

He could practically feel his eyes turn into stars at the gazed at the striking sight before him and she just tugged him inside. “I got something for you!” He was led with impressive speed up the stairs and towards her room, not giving him the chance to greet anyone inside the house. “Shouldn’t I greet your parents?” She gave him a bright smile. “Not yet.”

With a thump the door closed behind him and he somehow felt that it was final. His girlfriend turned towards him shyly. “So as I said I got something for you…. And I thought maybe you want to wear it tonight….” Pinkay could feel himself smile and he expected her to give him a handkerchief or maybe a corsage.

Instead, she pulled him towards the bed, on which laid the most beautiful dress he had ever seen. It was a strapless white and pink dress. It had multiple layers, representing a rose he thought and most importantly it was huge. It was way too big to ever fit Pearl and his eyes went to hers and he searched for answers there.

She gave him another shy smile and messed with her own hands. “I thought that maybe you might want to wear a dress to prom.” She suddenly avoided his eyes and waved her hands around frantically. “You don’t have too though! Oh stars! What was I thinking?! Of course, you don’t want to! I’m sorry! It was a stupid idea! I’ll get rid of it! I’m really sorry!”

He interrupted her frantic rambling by grabbing her hands, stilling them. He could see the awe of his gaze being reflected in her own as he stared at her with unhidden astonishment. “I want to wear it!” That came out louder than he meant, and he suddenly felt shy. His voice became incredibly soft. “Please?”

Her face softened. “Of course. You can change in here; I will wait outside. Just call when you are ready.” She gave his hands a reassuring squeeze and left the room, leaving him alone inside the room with a dress.

His hands shook as he slowly undid his tie. His hands still shook as he slid of his jacket. His hands shook as he unbuttoned his dress shirt. They shook as he kicked of his shoes. They shook as he pulled his dress pants down. Yet he never took his eyes off the dress.

He slowly pulled it from the bed and saw the zipper at the backside. It was already unzipped and so he slowly stepped into the dress and somehow, he was even slower as he pulled it up.

The fabric was soft as it slid across his skin. And the layers were a lot fluffier than he first assumed. He reached behind his back for the zipper and when it was finally on properly he turned towards the mirror.

His mind stood still as he looked at the visage before him. The dress was gorgeous. The layers fell down perfectly and somehow the dress fitted him perfectly. It was exactly floor length. He loved the sight of himself in the mirror. It was just perfect and he could see the tears streaming down his face. He hurriedly looked down and wiped his eyes. He would not get tears on the dress.

He wondered how his lovely Pearl managed to find this dress, but then he looked at the inner lining around the cups. Stitched in pink thread was a simple message. ‘For the most beautiful rose in the world.’

Tears now spilled down more rapidly from his eyes and he hastily tried to wipe them all away. Pearl had hand-sown the dress. That was probably why she had asked for his measurements a while back. She had made this for him.

Over his not so quiet sobbing, he hadn’t heard the door open, but he did see the handkerchief being presented to him. He dabbed away the tears, only to be stunned once more at the sight before him.

Where usually his most darling girlfriend would stand, now stood the most dashing girlfriend in the world. She had traded her usual dresses, skirts and leotards for a suit. A fine black suit with a pink bowtie. It fit her slender form perfectly and he looked into blue eyes with awe. Her strawberry blonde short hair was smoothed back, with soft curls framing her face. She was utterly gorgeous and she laughed at his expression.

She pulled him up and towards two chairs next to her desk, which was covered in make-up products. “Do you want make-up?” The only thing he could do was nod for yes as he was entranced by the sight before him.

Concentration took over his girlfriend face as she put a variety of products on his, nimble fingers working precisely. He didn’t know how much time passed, until she put the final product away and instead pulled wig from her table. Before she could even ask, he was already frantically nodding. And with expert hands she fastened the wig on top of his head.

Thick pink curls fell over his shoulders and she gently led him over to the mirror once more. “What do you think?” For a second, he was afraid to look. Afraid to see the awfulness that usually greeted him. What he got left him stunned and he realised that his girlfriend was excellent at leaving him speechless.

The mirror greeted him with two girls. One in a way too dashing suit and another girl. A girl in a gorgeous white and pink dress. With pink lipstick and a whole mane of thick pink curls. There was another girl in the mirror and her hand gently went out to touch the cool surface.

The image didn’t change.

Tears welled up in her eyes as she frantically tried to suppress them. She didn’t want to ruin the make-up. Overwhelmed with feelings, she pulled Pearl into a hug. Whispering a thousand gratitudes and the slender girl just held her tightly.

A soft kiss to her cheek, pulled her from the daze. “Come on, or else we’ll be late.” Pearl kneeled before her and gently slid two pink slippers on her feet. She was led down the stairs where her girlfriend’s parents took dozens of pictures and at one point a sword appeared in Pearl's hands, with which she dutifully took another dozen photos.

Pearl opened the car door for her, while the pale girl drove them towards the prom location. There her door was also opened for her and hand in hand they walked inside.

Music was already drifting through the garden, but she only had her eyes on her date. Said date led her towards a still empty dance floor. They gently swayed to the music, Pearl taking the lead. Though her darling seemed oddly nervous. A blush was taking over her face. “And is it perfect, my rose?”

A laugh burst out of her chest and she had to resist the urge to lift the lovely girl in front of her. “I think I like the name Rose.”

With that said, she kissed the girl.

This night was perfect.
