Chapter Text

Secretary spotted Ron walk into the hospital and let out a exhausted sigh, Ron from Accounting was probably his least favorite reoccurring patient ever, you would think having someone that was almost always not an anomaly would make things easier. But Ron was anything but simple.

Security let out a dry chuckle, "happy to see him again?"

Secretary scoffed, "as if."

Ron from Accounting finally made his way to the check in window, "ever wonder why they always hire so ma-"

"Don't care." Secretary cut him off and tapped the desk, "papers please."

Ron seemed offended but didn't;t say anything, not like it would've mattered anyways, Secret Agent walked into the Hospital. He was far to late for his shift but it wasn't like he'd get punished for it. What took Secretary's attention was who walked in behind him, for some reason Secretary felt a shiver run down his spine as he watched the bunny walk into the Hospital, like it wasn't;t supposed to be here. Ron kept dinging the bell but Secretary was able to just put him off for a while

Secret Agent led it into the check in, "Secretary, this is Intern and for the remainder of this shift he will be taking over this shift."

"What?" Secretary was bewildered, Security letting out a loud cackle from behind him didn't help.

"You heard me. I will be training Intern for the time being, you go help Nurse and the others."

Secretary couldn't believe his ears, it was insanity, he was getting replaced to go help with a job he wasn't trained for, "I don't know how to do treat patients!"

"It's simple. Why don't you practice with Ron for now."

Ron let out a startled gasp, "What?"

Secretary scoffed, "I'm not taking care of him, let Nurse do it."

"Secretary." Secret Agent's voice gained that annoying curt authority again. Secretary grumbled something out of his breath and stormed past him, he barely picked up on Secret Agent saying something about room six.

He wanted to go sit in the chairs outside of the check in, but Secret Agent would spot him far to easily. He groaned and swallowed hiss pride, heading down to room six.

He was pacing around the room until Ron finally walked in, carrying the suitcase with him into the room. He looked over and walked into the other room inside of room six, standing behind the glass pane.

Secretary glared at Ron from Accounting, he didn't seem nervous at all, in fact he nearly seemed carefree. Unlike Secretary, who wanted to go back to the check in room and relax, but he was stuck in here, and he was terribly nervous about treating Ron, he didn't know what the process of this room was, he didn't know what he had to do.

"Well?" Ron tapped on the glass pane, "you wanna come and get this over with?"

Secretary rolled his eyes, "be patient, not like you have anything better to do."

"I've got plenty to do other than sitting around in here."

"Just be patient."

Ron scoffed, and it just made Secretary even more nervous, he could feel some sweat piling up underneath his fur, he took a deep breath and walked over to the glass, there was six different colored panels and one screen in the middle, it was black.

Secretary mumbled a curse under his breath,, he had no idea how he was meant to work this thing he also didn't know what the buttons were really for. He could feel Ron's stare boring into his head and he felt hiss face flush in embarrassment, he could go ask Head Nurse for help but it wasn't like he knew where she was. Plus he would rather figure this out himself than go ask for help.

"You need help?" Ron offered but Secretary waved a hand at him dismissively, he could figure this out.

"You have to press the button on the side of the main screen to turn it on."

"I know, I already knew that." Secretary founded the button immediately after getting the hint, embarrassed he hadn't found it earlier. He clicked the button and the machine whirred to life, a digital message clicked to life: Press the buttons in order!

"Huh?" Secretary stopped back and saw the green button light up, then the pink one, and lastly the yellow one.

"Oh, that's simple enough," Secretary went to go press the green button before a loud buzzer blasted and the screen displayed a new message: Incorrect! try again."

Secretary heard Ron give a small chuckle and glared at him, he'd never seen Ron smile before, it honestly fit his face a bit more than the constant frown he always wore. Secretary immediately pushed the thought off, he didn't care for Ron, he just wanted to finish this, the Machine whirred back to life again.

Pink... Yellow... Pink... Yellow.

"Alright, simple enough," Secretary reached out to each of the colors and clicked them one by one. Once he was done the screen on the center lit up again, now the word 'Correct' was plastered on the screen. Secretary felt his chest swell with pride, he was able to figure it out on his own.

"Good job. You did good for your first time."

Secretary looked up from the screen and at Ron, he had that same stoic expression on his face, "what did you say?"

"Good job, you did good." Ron shrugged, but for some odd reason, Secretary could feel his face flush, he turned away from Ron as quickly as he could, he felt... weird. He didn't know why praise from Ron of all people felt so... good? Secretary shook his head, he definitely needed a coffee, he spotted a paper in the printer and went over to grab it, the computer next it started beeping rapidly after he took it. Ron reached over and tapped the screen and it flashed blue, three different options flashed onto the screen.

"Low sugar, Rash... Canadian?"

He glanced at Ron, who met his eyes immediately, as if daring him to question it. Secretary took the dare.

"I can understand the Low sugar and the rash, but Canadian?"

"I guess I must be Canadian." Ron shrugged.

"But what about being Canadian made you come to the hospital?"

"Maybe you would know if this was your actually job, Which it isn't, now go get me my Maple syrup."

Secretary scoffed, "what if I don't?"

"Then deal with your black cat boss."

Secretary rolled his eyes, "Not my boss, just close to my boss."

"Well with how he talks to you he might as well be." Ron stated, Secretary wanted to argue, but in some way Ron was right. Secret Agent didn't spoke and referred to Secretary like he was just some side character in his story, he hated it, but Secret Agent's stern tone made it feel awkward to argue against.

"Whatever, I don't have to explain our relationship to you." Secretary stated, before realizing how that really sounded.

"Relationship?" Ron let out a dry chuckle, Secretary felt his face get hot again. He hated how easily Ron got him riled up. He stormed out of the room, he didn't really know exactly what to get, but he would figure it out himself.

He looked through the options, there wasn't many, but for some reason that made it feel even harder to choose, rash was obvious, it was ointment, same for cough syrup. But Canadian felt to obvious for it to be right, the obvious answer was even more maple syrup, but why would he need two bottles of syrup, it made no sense. He really didn't want to mess this up, for his own prides sake of course, but he didn't exactly want something awful happening to Ron, he couldn't imagine not seeing that annoyingly arrogant face every day. He paused realizing what he was thinking.

"What am I saying..." he mumbled to himself.

He was staring at the options before noticing Nurse walking out of room seven.

"Secretary? why are you back here?" Nurse questioned, as always she had a pile of items in her arms, he had no clue how she and Head Nurse was able to do anything with their pockets filled to the brim or their arms completely filled.

"I got sent out of the check in."

"What? Why?"

"Some new Intern I guess."

"Is he cute?"

"W-What?" Secretary stammered, "Why ask me? Go ask Security?"

"I mean, you would know wouldn't you?"

"What."

Nurse's eyes widened, "oh you aren't... here let me help you with your patient!" She moved past her previous statement quickly and rushed over to Secretary.

"What do you need?"

"Apparently he's Canadian."

"Oh! that's Maple syrup!' She pulled one out of her pocket and shoved it into his hands.

"What? But he already needs one Maple syrup why two? And why does Canadian..." He trailed off as he realized Nurse was already rushing to go see the new Intern, he let out a defeated sigh, realizing he had to go see Ron again. He took a deep breath before walking back to room six.

"Took you a while hm?" Ron said the second Secretary walked in, he rolled his eyes and walked behind the glass pane and offered the supplies he got.

"You can treat yourself can't you?" Secretary smiled a bit as Ron took the supplies, it would be off if he had to treat him with his own hands.

He watched as Ron took a taste of the maple syrup, dipping his finger into it and bringing a finger up to his lips, Secretary couldn't help but stare for some reason as he put his finger in his mouth.

"It's alright."

Secretary blinked back to life at his words, "it's a hospital not some bar, why are you taste testing it?"

"Why do you think I come so often, I love this syrup."

"What? Isn't that illegal?" Secretary crossed his arms.

Ron rolled his eyes, "I was just joking."

Secretary sighed and walked out, the screen now had a large green bar on it that was slowly being filled, it read: Patient Recovering.

Secretary sighed, if he was going to have to wait this for this to fill he might as well make some conversation with Ron, as annoying as he was.

"So, what made you move here?"

"What? Why are you asking me that."

"Well jeez, god forbid I wasn't to make conversation while you recover, are you to stuck up for that too?"

Ron scoffed, "I'm not as stuck up as that stick in your ass."

"Ironic that your saying that hm?"

"Ironic your talking to someone you say you hate just about every single chance you get." Ron crossed his arms, glancing at the big screen.

"Well would you rather sit in silence."

"Maybe."

Secretary felt oddly offended by that, "f-fine, whatever, sit in silence then."

Ron just shrugged and shut the hell up for once, Secretary probably should've felt relieved by that, but now it just felt uncomfortable. He tapped his foot, trying to make a tempo for his own breathing, before realizing how dumb of an idea this was. Still, it was better than sitting around staring at Ron.

After a few minutes he finally gave it up, accepting that this was never going to work. He looked back up at Ron, who seemed to be almost completely out of it. He sighed, somewhat disappointed that Ron was handling the silence so well, in fact, Secretary had no idea why he was thinking about this so much, he was used to zoning out, the process of checking patients in and Security pointing out obvious anomalies was a mundane and repetitive process, so eventually he learned to zone it out .

Eventually he gave up, a question was nagging him far to much, "why do you like annoying me?"

"What? What do you mean."

"Well I mean, I've heard you talk to to others at a different check in window, and you don't even bother trying to make small talk or anything, only with me.

Ron smirked, it just made Secretary even more curious as to why he treated him like this.

"Because I like you more than the others,"

Secretary froze, he didn't know what do say, luckily Ron kept talking, "Your much more fun to talk to than the others and your actually funny sometimes."

Secretary could feel himself blushing, it was an odd feeling, he didn't know why being praised by Ron made his chest flutter like this, especially because Ron always annoyed him, but maybe it was was the same reason every shift where he didn't come, it felt almost empty. Every time Ron said something positive about him, he felt his chest swell with pride and something else.

"You alright?"

Secretary finally realized Ron was staring at him and he immediately tried composing himself, "I'm fine, perfectly fine."

"Alright, you do you then," Ron stepped out from the room and walked past Secretary, pausing before petting him, "you did great."

secretary let out an exhale as Ron's hands met his head, by now it was impossible to deny how he felt, and he had no idea if Ron knew or not.

"How are you doing that..." Secretary muttered as Ron walked out of the room. Leaving Secretary alone with his thoughts.
