Chapter Text
Class 3-A’s bustling chatter filled up the classroom as Katsuki leaned back in his seat and closed his eyes, allowing for his mind to block the noise.
Usually, he prioritised his full eight hours of sleep, going to bed around 8:30 every night. But his strict schedule was interrupted due to a specific green-haired boy.
Katsuki and his boyfriend, Midoriya Izuku, try to communicate whenever they can, whether it be one of them ranting about some drama that occurred, or just a simple check in. However, attending different schools and keeping up constant contact proved to be harder than anticipated, as a result of each other’s busy schedules.
Izuku going to Shiketsu High, much to his dismay, was honestly a surprise for him, (more than a surprise if he was being totally honest, he was nonplussed, taken aback) but he obviously supported anything that the nerd chose. At first, he honestly couldn’t believe it. His childhood best friend, turned lover, wouldn’t be going to their dream school together. After going to the same schools, basically attached at the hip, for all their lives, the same kindergarten, the same elementary school, all through middle school. And then all of a sudden, they were going to be separated.
He internally winced at how he reacted to the news.
Sure, Katsuki was an absolute asshole in middle school to Izuku. But he still could never imagine a life without curly green hair and bright, viridian eyes full of wonder.
Obviously, when Katsuki learned the actual reason as to why his boyfriend decided to go to Shiketsu High, he fully understood why.
That doesn’t mean he couldn’t be a little upset about it.
So, a supposed ten-minute call about one’s day led to a whopping two-hour facetime, thus being the reason as to why Katsuki was now fighting the urge to fall asleep during class.
Not that he was complaining. He loved to hear his nerd rant about topics at a million miles an hour.
“And then it turns out it was under her bed the entire time!” Izuku rambled on about something that happened earlier that day.
“Hah, no fucking way,” Katsuki said, “I bet she was fucking pissed,”
“Oh, she was. You don’t even wanna know what she did, I honestly get shivers thinking about it.”
“Honestly, serves her right, she’s really fucking annoying.”
“Kacchan! Don’t be mean!” Izuku pouted through the phone, his nose scrunching up.
Normally, Katsuki was known for being a self-centered jerk who didn’t want to hear about anyone but himself. But, what his peers in Class A don’t know is that he was a sucker for gossip. Especially when it was with his boyfriend. He could always count on some sort of drama Izuku had for him at Shiketsu High.
The couple had always been together, whether it be as friends, or more. They were always hanging out with each other, stuck together like glue. The two hung out at school, after school at each other’s houses, and during weekends, usually binge watching their favourite All Might movies. Even during their falling out during middle school, they always seemed to gravitate towards one another.
But that was the perks of having parents who were best friends. They lived on the same street, therefore always having quick access to each other.
Their third year of middle school had been hard on them both, especially Izuku, who suffered from bullying due to his lack of quirk. Katsuki had been the world's shittiest brat back then, inflicting his own self hatred onto Izuku. The explosive blonde had difficulty expressing his feelings properly and figuring out his longtime crush on his best friend.
Because, surprise, ladies and gentlemen, Bakugou Katsuki, who for some reason always turned down every girl that asked him out. Was gay as shit.
Not that he could accept it at the time, which then led to him distancing himself from Izuku, unable to accept his sexuality.
Because he and Izuku were so close, he could basically read the nerd like a book. He knows that Izuku has had a hard life, but he always stayed strong despite his hardships, not letting anything deter him from his naturally bubbly self.
So when Izuku started acting weird sometime during their first week back of their third year of middle school, right after the Sludge Incident happened, Katsuki was immediately confused.
First off, the nerd’s endless muttering during classes had stopped entirely which was…weird. To say the least. Katsuki would've never admitted it back then, but he found comfort in whatever Izuku talked to himself about. It was a constant thing, so often that he had become completely fluent in ‘nerd mumble’, able to fully understand what he was saying.
Secondly, he never saw Izuku’s nerdy notebooks in class, which was usually open and ready to have a chock full of messy information written anywhere he went. Katsuki would catch him with a faraway look, staring at absolutely nothing, dulled eyes devoid of its usual warmth.
It’s safe to say that something was up with the greenette.
This became extremely apparent to Katsuki when Izuku didn’t show up to school for three days. Now, to anyone else, no one would've batted an eye. But he knew better than anyone that Midoriya Izuku would never miss a day of school.
Katsuki was about to become worried to the point where he was gonna bring it up with his old hag when Izuku finally showed up to school the next day. Completely normal, his usual cheerful spark back in full force. He was quite surprised at the turn of events, but it’s not like he was complaining. Or like he was worried for the nerd at all… Which he wasn't. But he didn’t dwell on it too much because everyone has their down days, even Izuku.
Katsuki had thought that things were finally back to normal, happy to hear the nerd’s muttering again, when Izuku showed up late to school a couple of weeks later sporting a nasty black eye. What the fuck? He was positively fuming. Who the fuck thought they could hurt his nerd. Yes, his nerd. What the fuck ever… Shh.
During recess, he pulled Izuku up to the rooftop, which they regularly used to eat lunch together at.
“Ow, Kacchan, what are you doing?” Izuku said, hanging his head low as to hide his face.
“What the fuck is this, shitty Deku?” Katsuki pointed to the swelling of purple and sickly yellow.
“Ah! It’s nothing, Kacchan, I- fell.” Izuku scrambled to say, wincing at his obvious lie. The blonde could always tell when the nerd was lying.
“Bullshit, don’t lie to me,”
“Why do you even care, Kacchan?” He mumbled under his breath, but judging by the way Katsuki’s eyes widened a fraction, he knew he had heard him.
“I don’t fucking care,” the loudmouth snapped, “just tell me what happened, you’ve been acting weird for weeks now,”
Something akin to irritation flashed across Izuku's face. “No, seriously, why do you care so much, Kacchan? You’ve been blatantly ignoring me this entire year, only sparing me so much as a glance when we have our family dinners. I don’t get it. What did I do wrong? If you didn’t want me around you could’ve just said so,”
“Not everything’s about you, Deku, I was just dealing with something-”
“Like what, exactly, Kacchan?” Izuku stared into Katsuki’s ruby eyes, waiting for his answer.
“You know what, forget it, stop deflecting, Deku,” He impatiently said, voice rising after every word.
“I’m not deflecting! Tell me the reason why you suddenly hate me and then I’ll tell you. Because one day we were fine, and the next, you could barely look me in the eye. This has been going on for way too long. Everytime I try to talk to you, you just walk the other way. What’s up with you, Kacchan?” Izuku rambled, tears gathering in his eyes. “I just miss you, okay? I miss us staying up watching all the All Might movies, I miss us talking about cool heroes and their quirks. I miss us arguing about All Might’s coolest era, which was obviously the Silver Age, his battle against All For One was unmatched. Most importantly, I just miss seeing you everyday, Kacchan. And to think I was stupid enough to actually think you liked me back-” Izuku stopped himself when his voice cracked with a shaky breath, swallowing and blinking hard. He stood there, staring down at the floor as his whole body shook, not bothering to wipe away the hot tears that streamed down his face.
Katsuki just stood there, unsure of what to say.
“Izuku… I-” Before Katsuki knew what he was doing, he stepped closer to Izuku and embraced him in a hug. “I’m sorry,” he mumbled in the shorter boy’s ear, “I just didn’t know how to deal with my sudden feelings I had towards you. That’s why I grew so distant from you and made you feel worthless. I know that me saying this out loud doesn’t change a thing, but it’s how I feel. I’m sorry Izuku. The truth is-” He carefully moved away from Izuku, holding him at arms length, “Fuck-” He let out a humourless laugh, “I like you. I have for a while, but I was being fucking stupid and was just too much of a self-absorved asshole to actually admit it. I didn’t think you would like me back, I mean, why would you, I’ve treated you like shit.” Katsuki looks away, scowling down at the dirty floor.
Izuku just stared at him, his mouth parted slightly. “You probably won’t forgive me but I-” Katsuki was cut off by the green-haired boy putting his hand on the other boy’s mouth. Hesitant vivid green eyes meet piercing red.
They slowly closed the distance, waiting to see if either stepped away. Neither did. That told Katsuki all he needed to know. The kiss was brief, but gentle, only lasting a couple of seconds before they parted. It didn’t fail to send sparks in his mind because, holy shit am I really kissing Midoriya Izuku. He lifted his thumb to Izuku’s face and swiped away the tears, careful not to touch the bruising.
“I’m sorry for yelling at you, Kacchan,” Izuku said after a beat of silence.
“Tch, shut up nerd,” Katsuki murmured. “There’s no reason for you to apologise.”
Izuku gazed thoughtfully at the ground. “I guess so,” he mumbled.
“Now are you going to tell me what happened to your fucking face?”
“O-oh,” Izuku spluttered, “It’s a long story. Can I tell you after school? You can stay for dinner tonight at my house, my mom’s been asking when you're coming over.”
“Whatever, nerd, but I’m expecting the whole fucking truth,” Katsuki narrowed his eyes.
“Whatever you say, Kacchan,” Izuku giggled.
And oh my god did Katsuki miss that damn cute laugh, especially when directed at him.
He realised that he might have been staring because Izuku tilted his head like an adorable puppy before he broke out in a small smile.
“Kacchan,” Izuku began to say.
“Kacchan? You there?” Izuku spoke over the phone.
“Huh? Oh, yeah, sorry,” Katsuki sighed, recalling that memory. He should’ve known that his nerd of a boyfriend would forgive him. But if there’s one fucking thing that Katsuki knows, it’s how forgiving Izuku is. Always avoiding conflict, wanting to be friendly with everyone. And yeah, he knows that he doesn’t deserve Izuku at all, but imagine his surprise when Izuku felt the need to apologise to him. And that he actually liked Katsuki back?
Izuku has always been kind hearted and way too pure for the fucking world, especially to others who didn’t do shit to deserve it, himself included. Like, what kind of shitty person ignores their best friend for an entire year, with no explanation and without a word. No amount of apologies could make Katsuki feel any better about his actions. But of course Izuku brushes away each and every act of remorse. But that’s just who Izuku is, and he has gotten used to his boyfriend’s self-sacrificial and selfless personality.
“It’s okay, it’s late anyways, way past your bedtime, old grandpa,” Izuku teased.
“Oh shut up, shitty Deku,” Katsuki lightheartedly rolled his eyes, not wanting the call to end, despite his increasing tiredness. “The old hag keeps asking about you. Wants to know when she gets to see her ‘first son’.”
Izuku snickered, a shit eating grin plastering on his face. “Tell Auntie that I said hi and next time I see her, I’ll bake those mochi she really loves! Conveniently it's the only thing I can make without burning the whole house down, with the exception of two-minute noodles.” Izuku looks sheepish towards the last sentence.
“Oh, trust me, nerd. I know.” Katsuki grumbled. “I’m pretty sure there’s still flour on the walls from when you fucked up my birthday cake.”
“Hey! That recipe was hard!” Izuku squawked.
“It was a fucking vanilla cake, how hard could it be, Deku. My grandma could do that in her sleep.” Katsuki shot back instantly.
“We can't all be professional bakers like you, Kacchan…” He remarked before adding. “And besides, your grandma is dead.”
“My point exactly.”
Izuku merely deadpanned at the screen, his expression utterly unreadable before his face betrayed him, the corners of his lips upturning.
“Besides, why did you think it was a good idea to bake me a cake at my own house?” Katsuki raised an amused eyebrow.
“Because Auntie Mitsuki said that I could, and besides, we both know that you have all the good ingredients,” Izuku mumbled.
Katsuki just rolled his eyes.
“Oh! I forgot to mention, Ms Joke has a special surprise for us tomorrow, which technically she wasn’t supposed to tell us just yet, but she couldn’t help herself.” Izkuku began his rambling again, “Also, tell ‘Toshi I said hi! I’ve been meaning to ask him how he’s going but just been too busy. He said something about his new support item acting up- the voice modifier- and I said I would help him, but to be honest he should just go to Mei,”
“Tell him yourself, nerd,”
“Ugh fine, you’re so mean,” he laughed.
“Way to state the obvious, Deku.”
“I hate you,” Izuku said without any heat.
“No you don’t.”
“... No, I don’t.”
“Knew it, you could never resist this handsome face,” Katsuki gave one of his signature grins.
Izuku rolled his eyes before saying, “I miss you, Kacchan. I miss this. Being able to talk every night. Before our crazy schedules got in the way.” He whispered, a note of sadness threading through his voice.
“I know,” Katsuki sighed, “I miss you too, nerd.”
A brief pause of silence filled the room, enjoying each other's company before they had to part before a yawn from Katsuki betrayed him.
Izuku giggled. “Well we'd best go to sleep, goodnight, Kacchan, love you.” Izuku said after a moment.
“I love you too, Izuku.” Katsuki said before he hung up. He just stared at his own reflection where his boyfriend was on just a second ago. He was about to put his phone on his bedside table before an idea popped up in his mind.
He got up his messages and opened a new chat.
Katsuki

Katsuki ended the chat with a roll of his eyes and put his phone on charge, noticing the low battery. He leaned back onto his bed with a heavy sigh, letting his eyes close.
Katsuki jolted out of his trance, opening his eyes but still leaning his head back, to the sound of his sensei emerging from his sleeping bag in the corner of the class.
“Morning, class, quiet down,” Aizawa-sensei said with a sigh, "Today's training will look a little different,” The tired look on his face looked like would rather do anything but. “We will be doing a special joint exercise with another school.” He said before questions filled the room. If Katsuki was being honest, he really couldn't care less, he was tired and just wanted to get on with the day.
“With who?” someone said, probably Dunce Face.
Aizawa quickly scanned the class, pitch-black eyes directly locking with Katsuki’s red before he said,
“Shiketsu High.”
