Work Text:
Getting a call from her parents to try and convince her to quit idol life and come home as already a rough start to Mira’s day. She didn’t even know how they found her number but now she needed to either block their number or even get a new number if they ever called her again. Although she made it pretty clear to never call her again.
Now here she was, sitting at the kitchen table in a daze and already teeming between headspaces. She did not want to regress right now. There was shit to do today and she needed to stay big. However, she snapped out of her thoughts when she heard Zoey call her name.
“Mir, this is the fifteenth time I’ve called your name,” the maknae said, standing in the kitchen and stirring up her noddles.
Mira chuckled with a subtle eye roll. Hearing her maknae’s voice made her feel a little better, but not enough for the fog to go away completely. “What’s going on Zoey?”
“Rumi needs you at the studio in a few minutes to evaluate the choreography,” Zoey replied before eating more of her ramen.
Mira let out an over exaggerated sigh. “Really? All because I suggested we shake some ass? Now she has to evaluate the choreography?”
“Remember, she said we need to be mindful of the minors in our demographic,” Zoey reminded her.
“Katseye shakes ass in the parking lot for music video and they have fans who are minors,” the dancer huffed jokingly. Zoey just shrugged, not knowing what else to say.
Just then, Mira got up from her chair and prepared her bag while grabbing her shoes. “Just text Rumi and let her know I’m on my way.”
Minutes later, Mira and Rumi met each other at the dance studio to work together on choreography. So far Rumi didn’t notice anything off with the taller women and she didn’t even know about the call that caused her to slip and teeter.
“Alright Mira, show me what you’ve got. I’ll pause the music if there’s any changes that need to be made,” Rumi ordered before playing their newest song.
As the singer stood in front of her to watch, Mira nailed the choreography she had in mind and it seemed Rumi approved of everything so far because the music hadn’t stopped yet. As soon as she got to the chorus, her mind drew a blank. No, that wasn’t right. Throughout her twenty years of dance, Mira never forgot choreography. Especially when she’s the one to come up with it. She always knew the next step.
“M sorry,” she muttered, panting. This was where Rumi started to realize something was wrong. Mira was never out of breath this quickly into dancing.
In the moment, Rumi just shrugged mouthing that it was okay and to take her time. So she did. She paused and tried again. Mira drew that same blank at the same place.
“No no no….pause! I’m sorry. Pause! Pause please!” she shouted in panic.
Okay now something was seriously wrong. She has never seen Mira panic over choreography and it was bad when Mira yelled like that. “I-Is everything alright?” she asked with concern.
Mira didn’t answer as she was hyperventilating. She could feel her heart beating crazy fast and placed a hand over her chest, clutching it like it was going to run away from her. No no no….not here, not now. That fuzz grew stronger, her mind was full of static. She couldn’t tell Rumi that. Not just because she didn’t want to, but also because she genuinely couldn’t bring herself to. So the only way to communicate that was her to clap her hands against her ears, covering them.
“Mira…” Rumi slowly walked over to the panicking girl. “What’s wrong? What has my baby so upset?” she asked softly.
That soft tone? That’s what immediately made her drop.
“You forgot, didn’t you? It’s okay..” Rumi continued, reassuring her softly.
Mira shook her head sharply. “N-No…n-no…” she managed to let out a stutter.
Rumi placed a hand on the dancer’s shoulder, guiding her to sit on one of the chairs they had in the studio. “Let’s breathe. Okay baby girl?”
Just then, the half demon cupped her cheek and made sure Mira was making eye contact before demonstrating that deep breathing. Luckily, Mira followed. Or tried to.
“That’s it, my little cub. Keep breathing just like that,” Rumi whispered.
After a couple minutes, Mira’s breathing finally slowed down and it was back to normal again. However, Rumi noticed her little headspace and instead of questioning Mira she decided to nurture the little space until she was big again. So she shifted her onto her lap so she can relax.
“How about you take a nap, hm?” Rumi then suggested softly before Mira stubbornly shook her head.
“Please? It’ll be good for you.”
“No nap!” the dancer pouted and crossed her arms.
“Can we try?”
“No!” Mira abruptly got up from Rumi’s lap and stomped her foot. The leader knew she was being a brat, but she didn’t feel like being firm right now even though it was a smart thing to do. Especially since she didn’t want to worsen Mira’s panicked state.
“Sweetheart, how about if you take a nap you can show me the rest of the dance. You’ll have fresh set of eyes and ears,” Rumi suggested, providing a reinforcement.
Mira paused, hesitant at first before nodding slowly.
“Okay mommy..” she whispered timidly.
Rumi smiled as Mira reluctantly obeyed and laid back down on her lap. She then placed a hand on Mira’s clavicle, rubbing it gently. Despite having a calm body now, Rumi could feel how fast Mira’s heart was still beating. Poor thing.
Despite her reluctance to fall asleep and have a nap, Mira ended up doing so giving that her panicked state really tired her out. Rumi noticed this and leaned in to give Mira a soft kiss on the head as a way to let her know she was safe and her mommy was here. The leader definitely took a mental note to ask questions later when the time was right and to just enjoy this sweet moment for now until Mira was big again.
