“I love you”
She said her head on his chest as she gazed at his eyes
“I love you too”
He replied pulling her closer, she started giggling like a child but that only made his heart beat faster. He cupped her face using his hand and leaned forward, kissing her as if there was no tomorrow, as they released from the kiss Pomni’s face was fully red. They’d been dating for exactly a year and she still got flustered over him
“My, my Pomni, if I didn’t know better I’d think you were a tomato”
He said as he started playfully biting her
“Hey! Stop!”
She couldn’t help but smile. She grabbed his face and gave him an even more intense kiss leaving him breathless and red.
“Who’s red now” She said teasingly
“Shut up” he said embarrassed
She started giggling again until she ran out breath, Jax was staring at her like a lovestruck fool, Pomni leaned back on his chest, she could feel his heart beating.
“Can you believe it’s already been a year” She asked
“No….time flies when I’m with you.”
There was silence for a few seconds before he broke it by clearing his throat.
“Umm, I know you said not to get any presents but…”
He pulled out a silver bracelet with their names engraved on it. Pomni stared not knowing what to say.
“Gimme your hand”
She obeyed and he slipped it on. It was a perfect fit, big enough to easily put on but small enough to not fall of her hand. It was perfect, he was perfect, the way he looked at her hoping for an answer made her heart flutter.
“It’s… perfect. How’d you know?”
“ I just did”
“ I didn’t get you anything” she said quietly, guilt spreading over her face. “Hey, you weren’t supposed to” he said “but there is one thing you could do” he said grinning from ear to ear. “And what’s that?” She said smirking as she caught on
“ I dunno, maybe this”
He kissed her again but this time soft and gentle, Pomni instantly kissed him back. The pair were both red afterwards despite it being a soft kiss. Pomni stared at Jax’s ear. They were turning pink. Jax instantly noticed her staring and quickly hid his ears.
“Hey!! I wanna see!”
“No!! It’s embarrassing!”
An array of laughter and giggles came from the two, it was perfect
Pomni woke up abruptly, sweat beading down her face. It was that dream again. It happened 9 years ago when she was dating… him.
Now she was getting ready for the first day of her new, actual,proper job. C&A was a good real estate company, actually it was one of the best. She applied for the accountant role and got finally got accepted. She was nervous but she could handle it. It was fresh start,nobody who knew her past. What could go wrong.
Jax woke up and started getting ready for work, apparently someone new was joining and he had to train them. Boring…
He hated new comers, they were always so helpless and awkward and most quit after a while. He arrived at work with a crumpled shirt and coffee. Ragatha sighed after looking at him but that was a daily occurrence now. He saw Zooble talking with Gangle… again. Those two should just confess already, it was annoying seeing them do shit like that.
“Hey Zooble ”
“Huh? Oh hey Jax”
“Hi Jax “ Jax looked down to see Gangle, the two barely talked to each other, apparently she thought he was intimidating but he never really cared.
“Hey Zooble, come here for a bit” he said leading them away. After the coast was clear, Jax cleared his throat
“Oh my god, just confess to her already! You know how annoying it is to see you two flirting all the time and then being like ‘I don’t know if they like meee’ , she obviously likes you and You (emphasize on the you ) obviously like her.”
Zooble didn’t reply
Outside Pomni had just arrived with 5 minutes to spare, she walked in carefully until she felt a hand on her shoulder.
“Hi! Are you the new accountant?” A red head with a cheerful smile approached her, startling her a bit.
“Oh yes, that’s me.”
“Alright, well welcome to the team! My name’s Ragatha!Your trainer should be somewhere around here but if you need any additional help, feel free to ask me!”
“Oh, thank you. May I know who my trainer is?”
“Oh of course, he’s “ she continued but then stopped for a second and said “Oh there he is!”
Jax looked at Ragatha and then saw…. HER! What was she doing here! Is that who he was training. He looked at her, her face had paled when he saw her. No it must be a lookalike there’s no way.
“Jax! This is uhhh… sorry what was your name?”
“Huh?” She broke off from her daze “ uh my name is Pomni.”
Oh my god it’s really her. Ragatha noticed the tension.
“Do you two know each other?” She said looking at the two of them
“What, no! Why would I know her?”
“But Jax..”she was interrupted
“Anyway I gotta go do important work stuff, so see ya later”
He tried to make an escape but then
“Wait Jax! I was thinking we could have a little game of ice breaker since Pomni’s new, to get to know everyone!” Ragatha added “Everyone meet up at the lounge” everyone silently nodded and started walking towards the lounge. Ragatha grabbed her hand
“Come on, let’s go!”
Pomni walked alongside her processing what had just happened.
‘Ok, he’s here. That’s fineeee, I’m sure that he’s forgotten about it. I mean it was like a decade ago. ‘
“Alright! Pomni! Wanna help me arrange the chairs?”
“Oh sure.”
“Our office only has 5 workers… well 6 now with you, so we don’t need that many chairs.”
They neatly arranged 6 chairs in a circle. Ragatha took a seat in one of them and Pomni sat beside her. Soon a girl who looked like she was made out of ribbons sat next to her.
“Hi, you must be the new accountant.”
“Oh yeah, that’s me”
“Well nice to meet you!”
Soon afterwards the chairs were all occupied
Ragatha looked around and stood up
“Well, we all know about the new accountant, so everyone stand up and introduce yourself to her. Pomni, you can start.”
Pomni stood up and cleared her throat
“Hi everyone, my name’s Pomni, uh I’m 25”
The ribbon girl stood up after her
“My name is Gangle and I’m 26 ”
Everyone started introducing themselves until it came up to him.
“What? This is stupid” he stood up and walked away
“Wait!!! Jax!” Ragatha sighed “I’m sorry Pomni, sometimes he’s like that.”
Pomni zoned out, he definitely remembered and probably hated her,
and the worst part was he had every right to be.
“Hey are you ok?”
“Huh? Oh yeah umm Gangle right?”
“Yep! So do you like wanna be umm…. I don’t know friends?” She shyly looked away. “I’d love to be friends with you,” she replied with a soft smile.
Jax was pacing the room, he had no idea what to do. ‘That was definitely her, no doubt. Why is she here!? Why? She abandons me and then she just magically shows up?!’
“Jax!!! Come on dude where are you”
It was Zooble, of course it was Zooble. The handle twisted and in walked Zooble.
“What was that about?”
“Nothing.” He said sharply
“You know you can like, you know, talk to me.”
“That’s cringe and corny”
They gave him a stern look. Jax appreciated that about them. Even when things were shit they always gave their honest opinion.
“Look you don’t have to tell me but it’ll be easier to go on with your day if you tell someone,”
Jax turned away. He didn’t want to tell anyone. How could he tell anyone about how stupidly sensitive he’d been with a girl only for her to leave when things got hard.
Back at the lounge, Pomni and Gangle were gossiping about fan theories about a show they both loved and also about her crush on Zooble.
“You have to promise not to tell!!”
Pomni made a gesture of zipping her mouth which Gangle laughed at. It felt nice to have a friend like that.
“Sooooo, how good do you think they’ll be in bed?”
“POMNI!!” Gangle covered her face with her arms as she blushed profusely at what she said. In perfect timing Jax and Zooble started walking through the lounge. Zooble noticed her and waved.
“Eeeeeee” she squealed and ran away
“Hey! Wait up for me!” She yelped as she sped away to find Gangle
Jax didn’t know what to tell Zooble. He just said he’d explain later hoping Zooble would forget. Zooble nodded and the two of them walked back out in the lounge. And there she was… smiling and giggling like she used to when.. when. He snapped back to reality after Gangle started to squeal and run away. Zooble looked utterly confused. Jax didn’t even know what happened he was too busy.. thinking.
Pomni paced after Gangle. Damn that girl was fast. As she finally caught up to her Gangle looked out breath and was still blushing profusely.
“I HATE YOUUU!!” She said in a joking way. Pomni couldn’t help but laugh and Gangle joined in as well
“I’m sorry!!!!! I didn’t think they’d just appear! But seriously though what do you think.” She raised her eyebrows at her hoping that she’ll understand that she was joking again but then noticed that Gangle was actually thinking about it.
“Well, I mean they can like deattatch their limbs” Pomni gasped “Actually?!”
“Yeah, so I guess they could put it….Oh my god! No no no!!”
At first Pomni was confused but then it hit her
“Oh my godd!! Gangle seriously!!”
Gangle was red all over again and Pomni couldn’t help but laugh but her laugh soon stopped when a figure appeared. Pomni tapped Gangle’s shoulder, she looked up and instantly freezed.
“Who is that?” She whispered
“That’s Caine, he’s our boss. Pretend like we weren’t gossiping”
“Hello ladies’, ah! You must be Pomni, you’re the newest member of our team.” Caine looked between the two “ I thought I assigned Jax to train you?”
“Yes Caine, you did. I was just showing her around the building for her to get.. comfortable.”
“That’s a lovely idea Gangle but Jax must start training Pomni pronto. You my dear” he pointed at Pomni “ Come with me”
And with that the conversation ended
Jax was in his office. Usually he’d be making up a new advertisement to promote the company but he just couldn’t. He tried to get her out of her head but no matter what he couldn’t. He heard footsteps, more specifically Caine’s footsteps, he rushed back to his desk and sat as if he was working. Caine approached his office with her.
“Hello Jax! I’ve assigned you to train our new member! You were the last accountant so I hope you remember everything she needs to know!”
And with that he left leaving only Jax and Pomni to stand in awkward silence.
Pomni looked around the room. Trying to find something to distract her. Jax broke the silence.
“So what was your name again?”
“Pomni…”
“Right”
“Jax you know that”
“Do I?” He remarked sarcastically
“I… I don’t know. Let’s just start”
“Sure. Whatever” he didn’t know what to say. Pomni didn’t say anything else. She didn’t know what to say. She was really sorry for what she did to him. She had her reasons but it still wasn’t right. He looked down at her and noticed a bracelet on her wrist. ‘Surely not, it’s probably just another bracelet’
Jax taught her the basics of the company for a few weeks. Afterwards she was good enough to do it on her own. Caine noticed her work and praised her for it, though she felt it was too much. After teaching her the two barely talked to each other. Pomni wanted to talk to him but every time she tried something came up. Pomni didn’t know why she wanted to talk to him but deep down she knew she still had feelings for him, and she tried so hard to get rid of them but she just couldn’t. She even wore that stupid bracelet everyday, it made her calm, without it, it felt as if something was wrong. It was probably because she had won it continuously for a long period of time but still. She treasured it like it was her life savings for reasons she didn’t know. That damn bracelet
Jax arrived to work late again in his signature crumpled shirt along with his coffee. As he walked past the lounge he saw Gangle and Pomni giggling about whatever they were talking about. Jax subconsciously stared at her a little too long. Pomni turned towards him and offered him a smile which he ignored as he paced to his office. Of course, she just had to get in his head again, giving him a smile as if she’s done nothing wrong. Making him feel like the bad person for not wanting to talk. Of course…that was just so, her.
Pomni noticed Jax staring at her, she turned and offered him a smile which he ignored. She tried to be upset at him but she couldn’t. She knew it was her fault, maybe if she’d just told him what happened, no she couldn’t, if she told him, he’d had left everything for her, she couldn’t have let him done that. Her eyes started to sting but she couldn’t cry, Gangle was still in front of her ranting about relationship stuff but soon Gangle stopped talking too.
“Pomni? Are you ok?”
“Huh,” Pomni looked up at her “oh I’m fine, just thinking about something,”
Gangle stood up and offered her hand to Pomni which Pomni took. She led her to an old storage room that looked like it hadn’t been used in years.
“You can cry here, nobody can see or hear you here, I kinda understand what you’re feeling and sometimes letting it out is the best thing,” she spread her arms and Pomni instantly went in and hugged her quiet tears dripping down her face. Gangle started rubbing her head but Pomni only got worst, her quiet crying soon turned into sobs which turned into her bawling her eyes out. Gangle didn’t say anything, she was just there with her which deeply comforted her more than anything.
“Thank you… that felt good,”
“It does, doesn’t it?”
“Thanks Gangle, I don’t think I’ve ever had a friend like you, it feels weird… Like in a good,”
“I’m glad I could help,” she offered her a smile
“Gangle… are you okay?”
“What?”
“I mean for you to have found this place, something must have happened,” she started but looked up to see tears forming in Gangle’s eyes
“Oh Gangle,” They hugged each other again but this time it was Pomni who was comforting her, Gangle sobbed quietly, tensing every time she heard a sound.
“Hey, you’re safe here, “
“ I know but it feels strange crying when someone’s in the same room,”
“Well now that we both cried to each other it might not feel as strange,”
“Yea, you’re right. Thank you Pomni. This meant a lot,”
“Anytime,” she offered her hand to Gangle who gladly took it, they walked through the long hallway and back to the lounge. There was 2 minutes left until they had to start working so they continued to talk about random stuff.
Jax sat down on his chair determined to start working again. He couldn’t let something as silly as that prevent him from working. As he sat he heard a knock on his door and looked up to see Caine.
“Hello Jax,”
Jax stood up and straightened his posture. “Good morning, sir”
“You may sit Jax,” he obeyed “I’ve been observing the office for a while and noticed that you seem to forget to interact with our new team member, remember what I told you? We need to have a friendly work environment, so I went ahead and gave the two of you a paid leave for today and tomorrow to essentially spend…. quality time time together,” his tone deepened “If I find that during this period you have not been spending time together… I think you already know the answer,” his voice became cheerful again “so! Quickly go home and get dressed cause you’re going to the arcade!” And with that he left, leaving Jax with his endless thoughts.
‘Two entire days, spending time, together?!’ This was gonna be tourture
Pomni stared at the ceiling. This was gonna be awkward. Jax and Pomni had frequently visited arcades when they were dating so that’s…something. She didn’t know what to think so she did the only thing she could think of.
“You used to date him?!”
“Yeah…in high school.”
“No wonder! I sensed the tension every time he was in the same room as you,”
“I don’t know what to do, Caine’s forcing us to spend time together to make a ‘friendly work environment’ but I don’t know if I can do it… could you maybe come with me? If that’s ok with you, of course!?”
“Sure, I’d love to come but we should ask Caine first,”
The two of them set of to find Caine, he’d come earlier that day so he had to be somewhere. They later found him in his office, drawing bees all over his notebook. Gangle knocked on his door and he quickly snapped back from his daze.
“Ah Gangle and Pomni too! What seems to be the matter?”
“Hi, uh Caine..sir. I was hoping that Gangle could accompany me to go to the arcade with Jax for…. extra bonding! You know. “ Pomni awkwardly laughed not knowing what Caine would say.
“That’s a wonderful idea, my dear! I knew hiring you was the right decision. Well Gangle may accompany you and I’ll inform Jax that he can bring someone too! Is that all?”
“Yep, that’s all! Thank you sir, uh Caine.”
Pomni grabbed Gangle’s hand and paced away from his office.
All things considered that went well, she thinks at least.
“Hey! Wanna match?”
“OMG Yesss!!!”
