Had it been years? Verity couldn’t tell anymore.
Player after player, user after user, update after update, he had watched people come and go. Some lasted longer than others, not never as long as Mob did.
He had managed to exist in a modern version of Minecraft instead of that old outdated version, finally. He watched as the player he was staying with this time rummaged through chests as the dog they kept watched, tilting its head.
“What’cha looking for?” Verity asked, laying on top of one of the already searched through chests.
A robotic TTS voice answered, “Enderpearls. I used all the ones in my inventory trying to escape from a cave.”
Verity felt his heart sink, “Oh, haha! Uh, you.. you have extra Enderpearls in the 4th chest in the next room.”
“Thanks.” The player walked off, not even questioning how nervous Verity looked and sounded.
The second the door closed, Verity turned into his humanoid form and frantically searched every single chest. He even went as far to triple check. “No, no, no, no! NO! WHERE IS IT!?”
Without hesitation, not even caring anymore, he burst through the door to the other storage room; the player was already gone. Desperately, he searched all the chests, checking every single corner, every single crack, anything that had a storage slot, he searched.
But, despite his attempts, he couldn’t find it. Maybe he still had time. He sprinted out of the house and followed the player, making no attempt in stopping. Eventually, he spotted them running towards a ravine, they had an Enderpearl in their hand. That had to be it, Verity could see that carefully etched in “M” from a mile away.
“DON’T THROW THAT ENDERPEARL!” Verity screamed, watching as the player looked back at Verity, but it was too late.
They couldn’t stop the throwing motion in time.
The pearl shattered on the other side of the ravine, teleporting the player exactly where it had broken.
“No…” Verity couldn’t handle it, slipping back into his ball form, “NO!”
The player was confused, carefully bridging back over, “What? What’s wrong-?”
Verity grabbed the player, already in his monstrous form, “YOU JUST DESTROYED THE ONLY THING I HAD LEFT OF THE ONLY PERSON WHO ACTUALLY CARED ABOUT ME! DID YOU NOT SEE THE ‘M’ I SCRATCHED INTO THE SURFACE!?”
“Wh- No! I didn’t! I- I’m sorry!” They panicked, looking terrified.
“‘Sorry’ won’t fix this!” Verity dropped the player and reverted to his plum form, “I thought I told you to never touch that.”
“...You did.” The player sat down next to Verity, “I wasn’t paying attention, I- I didn’t mean…”
Verity stared at the other side of the ravine, he could still see the shards of the Enderpearl, they’d despawn soon. Now he lost the only thing that was still left of Mob.
